We just put the entire shop on a deeper discount for the Holiday shopping weekend. Please stop in and see if we have anything you desire. Our other shop, BulkAThon (all bulk) is also have a discount, and you can combine orders to save on shipping!

We did just list almost every Minifig Collectible Series set in the shop (one of each), along with some Modulex (I'll be listing more this coming month).

Stop on in, we'd love to see you!

As a side note, we will be closing both shops around December 30th until around mid April of next year, so do be sure to stock up now.

Happy Holidays!

  Hello everyone!

I'm excited to announce that finally my shop is open and ready for business.
Unfortunately i am kind of struggling to get some orders at the moment and i
would like to ask you guys a favor...

Could you please have a look in my shop and give me some pointers how to improve
my sales?

I know the basics;
- competitive pricing
- keep adding inventory
- lower prices to boost sales

I would like to know if there is something fundamental that i am missing that
prevents or discourages people from visiting.
I am very new in this, but eager to learn and improve.
Maybe my prices are too high or my shipping method is not quite what it should
be? Please keep in mind that my shop is located in The United States

Any comments or suggestions are welcome, as my main goal is to learn and to
be successfull.

Thank you for all your support in this, much appreciated!

Best regards,
The Top Brick

Spamming every forum section is not going to get you customers. More likely the
opposite.

+1

You only need to pick one section to put this, and everyone will see it (I'd
personally pick Announcements).

it. No invoice or IOSS number listed on the order, or telling us to send it (and
it got overlooked on our end, honestly - this is still new to us, so getting
used to it will take a few orders).

Now our customer is saying they're getting asked to pay the VAT that was
already paid to BrickLink.

We need some help (both us and the customer) ASAP - sent a message to the Help
Desk, but in my experience, no one ever responds.

Is there an Admin out there reading this that could expedite this issue and get
us some guidance?

I'd also like to know how we should all handle this going forward - if there's
an order that pays VAT but no invoice is made?

Thanks all!

Are you sure they already paid VAT? That is, Is it in the PayPal transaction
as a partner fee?

BL doesn’t collect VAT if the order amount is over €150 (~$180).  BL should also
not collect for VAT-registered buyers (but I think they do nonetheless).

Also, normally, the buyer receives a copy of the invoice (or it’s the other way
around: the buyer receives the invoice and the seller gets a copy).

GREAT information here - Yes, they DID pay the VAT, but going in to look at the
payment, they did a Mobile payment (all our International orders are invoiced,
but the customer did not use the BL invoice link to pay). I think that's
the issue - I can refund the customer for the VAT on the order, so he can pay
it there, but I'm not sure how it will affect BL on that (however, that's
not his issue). This would also explain why there's no invoice.

Okay, noted - I need to pay attention to ALL the orders going overseas for this!
Good info to have, and hopefully someone else finds this information useful.

Now, if BL can answer on how this should be handled in the future, that would
be fantastic!

Try using this link but changing the order number:

https://www.bricklink.com/_file/orders/vat_invoice.file?oid=16962301&type=I

Thanks for this suggestion - shows Null, so no invoice for this order exists,
based on this (which is what I thought, since I didn't see a notification
on the top, nor receive an e-mail)...hmmmm...

According to BL's TOS you must be of legal age or 18 at least to register.
That is completely understandable from the buying/selling point of view.

But what about a junior account without the privileges to buy or sell?
Kids could browse the catalog, make wanted lists - maybe "publish" them or somehow
share them with "proper" users (e.g. parents) and get used to the platform.

This would lead younger users to BL without being "illegal" and without the chance
to make "bogus" orders or other interference with the "business" on this site.

Just an idea as my daughter is building a lot of stuff in Studio and would like
to create her own wanted lists in BL and is generally interested in this site.

Jan

Kids on this forum ? Are you crazy ? Unless they have their own forum, no thank
you. I'm sure the admins will love to moderate that.

Agree with no underage kids in the forum (I recall how that has looked in the
past when they sneak in, LOL).

I also agree with this idea, though - to allow people to make a list for use
that they can publish - not sure how it could best be done, but the idea is solid
in how it could help enhance the ability to bring in new users (adults) to buy,
and kids are super savvy at stuff these days and this could really bolster some
new interest.

My two cents.

NO...
Old feedbacks, including negatives and neutrals, can give you an idea on who
your dealing with and tell buyers whether there is 'pattern' when something
goes wrong.
If BL would purge those negatives and neutrals, then they would need to do that
for all sellers, do you really want that ? (showing 1 example in the screenshot
below, I could give a couple of dozens like that)?

You seem to be bothered by the few negatives you carry? Why? You've had near
4000 transactions, with 3 negatives, that's less then 1 per 1300 transactions,
neglectible
And I doubt buyers will hold it against you when they need to determine whether
or not they wanna buy from you...

This is a good point, and the negatives that these buyers leave will also say
worlds about them.

I just received my first negative after 13 years! For not falsifying customs
forms (of which the buyer did not request I do) and that the shipping was too
high (of which they knew about before paying) - ridiculous, but this also serves
as a warning to anyone looking at that buyers feedback that they've left
- that they have ridiculous expectations and maybe you don't want to work
with them.

It's good for both parties in that respect.

In regards to old feedback - agreed. If I see feedback from a year ago that is
negative but lots of positives, I don't worry about it. I hope that the feedback
was used as a corrective and now that problem won't exist at all - if it
ever did. Plus, we are all human, get sick, have issues that we can't control,
and most buyers understand that.

Tracy

People who ask you to commit felony customs fraud should be banned and have their
ability to leave a negative for that order removed. It's been far too long
since this was first suggested for nothing to be done about it.

Yes, I agree.

I wrote to this customer, asking them to reconsider considering this was their
2nd order and they had no issues with it. They responded saying my postage was
ridiculous (of which they could have asked to cancel the order if they had a
problem with it - they did not have to PAY IT), and then said, "My feedback is
staying thank you and you probably break the law on a daily basis."

BlockityBlockBlock by me for that one.

Yes, please remove this.

Having the MSRP is bad enough, but the text that the item can be purchased online
for the MSRP is just beyond stupid. Sorry if that comments violates the new
"don't say anything bad about bricklink" rules, but I really do not know
how else to say it.

At best, it makes BrickLink sellers look bad.

At worst, it sends buyers elsewhere to make their purpose.

BrickLink, being the venue, really should not be sending traffic elsewhere away
from their own sellers.

Troy

They are only a S@H link away from violating their own rules

That's what I was wondering about - WE are not allowed to STATE that other
sites have things for sale that are on BrickLink - but the Catalog now clearly
sends people there? I think that someone needs to rectify this, stat. (and
I'm not saying anything "bad" about BrickLink, but this is blatantly ridiculous)

And, let me add this in for the CS Team that is gathering/looking at suggestions,
and maybe they will see this and be able to shine some light into why BrickLink

that many have questioned. Although I don't think anyone has made a formal

I do not think this helps sales on BrickLink. On the contrary, as Tracy and others
noted, listing an MSRP that is lower than what the item sells for on BrickLink
could very well be sending buyers elsewhere, turning them off to BrickLink or
discouraging them from ordering such items here on BrickLink.

When I shop for LEGO online or in the real world at Target, TRU, WalMart and
other places, I have never seen any of these retailers list a lower MSRP alongside
their own higher price. Why in the world would they? It might make sense when
their prices are far below the MSRP, but never when prices are higher than the
MSRP.

My apologies, but I just don't see the purpose of listing the MSRP as far
as sales are concerned. It might have some minor passing appeal as a mere historical
reference for long discontinued sets, but how exactly does it help sales when
currently available sets are often priced higher here on BrickLink? Unless the
purpose is to bring down those prices? IMO, any usefulness in listing the MSRP
as a mere reference is greatly outweighed by the potential negative affect on
sales, turning off of buyers, and creating disputes between buyers and sellers
as to why a seller is charging more than the MSRP.

Profit is not a sin. It makes commerce possible. And it makes buyers able to
easily get what they want.

Amen!. Everything seems so complicated lately. I print the labels around 1

rings the doorbell, husband hands him the bin and that is that. When I wake

Wrong.

Some of us do not print out postage labels online.. so shipping cannot be defined

simply put...

An order is only shipped when it is no longer in the hands of the seller, but
in the custody of the delivery service, whatever it happens to be

( On a side note...waiting 6 weeks to ship an order, even with the holidays,

Ah, now we are getting somewhere... The OP is actually complaining about a large
seller here that is famous for taking payment, and not shipping, for a long time.
I have bought from this seller before, and they have always come through, but
only after being asked. I have not ever left them a bad feedback, like I said,
they have always come through with what I ordered. They do seem to play games
with the shipping times though, changing the status every day, making it impossible
to know when it actually shipped. It seemed to me that they spent more time trying
to hide the actual shipping time, than actually shipping orders. I have since
decided never to order from them again. I'm talking featured with more than
one negative.

Darren

If we're thinking about the same seller, we have this issue almost every
time we order with them - and they blame it on the PO not scanning things in
a timely manner. I've NEVER encountered a post office that does NOT scan
things the same day, and have been told by two different post offices that they
HAVE TO scan things the SAME day they receive the items.

Well, I know to expect it, so I accept it if I order from them - but, if I was
a new buyer and got this service I'd be highly irked.

You get what you pay for?

my domestic buyers. Having a separate minimum for international orders would
meet this need. For now, I'm probably going to have to disable international
orders entirely.

Hi,
I highly recommend to put shipping rates in your shipping policy.
I have a lot of very small international orders for a few cents and only one
buyer so far (years ago) complained about EUR 3.45 shipping costs.
Ronald

As I said previously, I had a large chart on my shipping policies page that provided
the exact shipping cost for any first class package to any country. I took it
down when the rates changed and haven't had the time to redo it yet. (Today
is my third of four concerts in two weeks). Based on the number of complaints
and cancelations I got with the $3 minimum shipping for international shipping
from people who obviously didn't read the chart I do not expect this to fix the
problem.

Honestly, we have had a note included in the International Shipping Rates area
where you select which type of postage you wish to have (First Class International
- shipping rates start at $4.50 for the first ounce) - people STILL argue the
pricing even though the minimum was clearly stated for them when they personally
select which shipping option they want.

Please expand the option to return an item back to store inventory after order
item removal requests to those requests started by sellers, too:
http://www.bricklink.com//help.asp?helpID=267

Currently, the seller can do so for OIRR started by buyers only - along with
his approval of the request.
While I see the logical background (a buyer should start the request if he doesn't
want an item anymore even though it's available - sellers only should start those
requests in case an item cannot be found) the real life is a little bit different:
In order to speed up the process, I usually start OIRRs upon buyer's request
and just let them approve the request.

Therefore, returning items back to inventory can actually be required for seller
initiated requests as well and should be enabled.

Thanks,
Jan

I've wished for this feature for a long time - glad you are suggesting it!

Thank you Troy for the clarification, it is appreciated! (and the thread)

Since the other thread was locked, and the problem still has not been resolved.

Sorry if this message is long, and a bit confusing. I cut and pasted many lines
from internal emails, past discussions and information from a programmer I hired
to try and help me resolve this very issue.

My point was, and is;

WE MUST HAVE A 2nd STOCKROOM or some way to be able to sell another inventory
seperate from our current inventory.

2 seperate locations, one store or
2 stores, 2 seperate locations.

And before it starts;

1.) "I am very happy some of you do not have this issue. WE DO. We have tried
in the past to resolve it. It did not work out well. I have a pad next to my
monitor here where I have been writing down suggestions! I am willing and glad
to try any suggestions to be able to list my used inventory.

2.) "My current plan is to liquidate my new inventory. ALL OF IT. Then move
over to the used until that is gone as well. Then I will be moving on to either
Ebay, or if I can find a way to make Brick Link work in a way that is able to
make me money I will gladly start over again."

3.) "It is my PERSONAL BELIEF that bricklink has some minor flaws. Those flaws
are keeping people like myself from selling even more. One flaw is the large
store backup and upload. I cannot download and reupload my entire store! I
have to do it in pieces. It is a MAJOR PAIN IN THE A_S. Again, MY PERSONAL
BELIEF is; Bricklink is suffering from some growing pains. This site is amazing.
It does many wonderful things. Some of the issues that I have seen from working
a store, then running one are Checkout is horrible. MAJOR confusion for new
users. Inventory tag system is very confusing if not setup correctly and my
final complaint is NO PLACE TO LEARN. I do believe my predecessor called it
a "sand box". I have no idea what that would entail, but I assume it would be
a place where I would be able to upload and download inventory without doing
damage to the store.

A 2nd store would be nice, but if that is not available we need a 2nd stockroom.

Then we would need an option to keep the 2nd stockroom from being purchased along
with the 1st stockroom.

This would be a bit confusing, but would solve the problem.

It would also allow for people to be able to play around with their inventory
without doing damage to the original (I think either I or my alter Ego posted
about that in the past).

I asked a question of the "Help Desk" to see if we can resolve this.

To date we have tried;

Importing the used inventory into our new inventory. It was a nightmare.
Doing seperate bins for the used. Again, nightmare. People pulled incorrect
pieces and wrong colors and damaged the inventory.
One tub of used. This worked, but is VERY slow sales process when you have as
much as I do right now.
Poundage. This worked, but we are getting around 2.00-3.00 per lb vs. 20.00-30.00
per lb which is what it is worth.

Thank you for all the emails.
On this one subject I do believe ANY large seller would be happy with a place
that is protected, and an option to sell the inventory from the 2nd stockroom.

I look forward to a debate on it.

Please do not bitch at each other on my thread!

I am sure addition of millions of elements and more varity cannot be a negative
thing.

I have been forced to look at other avenues due to this, one of which is opening
my own Ebay store.

With Ebay's auction feature I can pre-bag the used inventory in groups, and list
it in a way that makes sense.

On bricklink I would have to do unsorted lots. Which would end up sitting in
my inventory and would end up being a mess and problem.

I am not totally up on all of the inventory tricks here.

But I do know we cannot backup our current inventory and 're-upload' it to the
site.

That is a major pain in the neck!

If we damage this inventory again, I have no one to help me fix it.

So if it happens, we are finished on Brick Link.

Have a great weekend.

And keep it civil!

Seems like a lack of training. "Wrong colors" have nothing to do with new/used.
Why not use the REMARKS field and include "NEW" and "USED" and sort your inventory
into two halves (new/used) before it's sorted by whatever method you use. You
can have orders sorted by the Remarks field first. That way your sorters pull
the new parts from the left side of the warehouse, then pull the used parts from
the right side of the warehouse?

Each lot could have a remark of "NEW A104" or "USED J023" or whatever code system
works for you.

-Ash

Good idea Ash -

Another thing we personally incorporate is that I try to mark MOST items I'm
listing that are used with some sort of comment (USED) or something to that effect
in the listing description for both our benefit and the customers, since we more
new than used. This way our customers won't mistake new/used listings as easily
when browsing the store.

It's very easy to note the comment next to the part if it's in LARGE LETTERS.

Personally (no slight against anyone who has problems with mixing new/used),
we just make sure everything is accurately labeled and generally have no issues...as
it seems most here agree with.

On sellers' My Orders Received page please add an optional column for the weight
of orders. The weight will be automatically input by BrickLink only if all lots

I don't use these weights so much to invoice my buyers before picking and packing
their orders. But seeing the weight does give me an idea of the size of their
order and the size and type box I may need to pack it. It would also be nice
to have an idea of the cumulative weight of all orders I receive over time.

Interesting suggestion, I like it!

1.) Problem / Order has issues
2.) HOLD OPEN

this would be a nice addition for some of our order status conditions. It would
get them off our pending/paid/packed pages as well.

Thank you for the consideration on this issue.

You can add colored flags for different types of shipping. Add a hold open shipping
type and give it a flag.

I do that for both hold open and priority requests.

By placing parameters on the URL, once can browse through stores, listing for
a country and grouping the stores by state:

http://www.bricklink.com/browseStores.asp?countryID=AU&groupState=Y

You can also view the stores that are currently closed:
http://www.bricklink.com/browseStores.asp?viewClosed=Y

You can even group the closed stores by state:
http://www.bricklink.com/browseStores.asp?viewClosed=Y&groupState=Y

However, limiting closed stores to a single country doesn't work:
http://www.bricklink.com/browseStores.asp?countryID=AU&viewClosed=Y

Just curious, is this just for ease of viewing so you don't have to scroll through
everything? (Since it's visible, but has everything else listed too)

I just got off a heated debate about magnet figures.

Would it be possible to put a permanent note on the gear figs?

Something like;

Comes from Magnet set.

We have been buying figs from Amazon, Ebay, BL, as well as countless shows and
events.

We are having issue with the quality of the magnet figs and the elements which
are getting into the purchase lots that we are buying ESPECIALLY from the Bricklink
bulk lots.

Buyers are starting to be unhappy, and it is going to effect other sales we have
of the fig elements in the future.

I am VERY happy they (LEGO) has started gluing the figs to the magnets.

And I hope their quality control on future production of fig elements stays to
the high standards they had in the past.

That is all I have to say about that.

Have a nice day.

One note...I personally have found the quality of the Collectible Series figs
to be less than that of regular minifigs...and the collectible figs get broken
down by people (us included) - the legs aren't as nice, but I haven't had any
issues as yet (that I've heard about).

...in new sets - I don't think the quality is up to par with where it used to
be.

Would it be beneficial to require a comment when you mark something as USED condition?

I personally don't think this is necessary - but, do think it would be beneficial
for ANY store to list something in their Splash and/or Policies about the quality
of new/used. I just had a new buyer today ask for "PERFECT" figures, and I had
to explain to him that figures cannot be guaranteed to be "PERFECT" due to how
LEGO ships them in the sets I pull them from, but that they haven't been used,
etc., etc. - things we already have listed on our Splash/Policies.

I would encourage any store to list things they feel should be listed...such
as, we have a large amount of used we're listing now and we are putting in comments
that they could be from different production runs, some may be slightly dusty,
show wear, etc. We've pulled out the junk, but there are too many variations
to put them all into separate groupings, honestly. They're used, but some people
think (I've found) that used should look new...another thing we list in our Splash/Policies
is that if you really want new, don't order used.

I can handle about 5 to 10 orders a week in my current working position.
So if my store could automatically close after x number of orders, that would
help me and maybe others too?

Thanks,

That's a very interesting idea, and I can see how many members could benefit

What a nonsense it that

USPS does NOT deliver to international PO Boxes, as the local postal service
delivers in the destination country.
How will USPS now which country's postal service needs a phone number to deliver
to a PO Box and which not?

If a phone number is required for a PO Box outside the USA then ALL postal services
ALL over the world would require the phone number for - say - Germany's PO Boxes.

In fact I shipped to numerous PO Boxes all over the world and Deutsche Post/DHL
NEVER asked for a phone number.

What sense does it make if USPS requires a phone number for a PO Box in Portugal
and other countries' postal services don't require such a number and the postal
service in Portugal does not at all need a phone number to deliver to a Portuguese
PO Box ?

Regarding phone numbers in general, seriously, neither Deutsche Post/DHL nor
any of the big five courier services (DPD, GLS, UPS, HLG, FedEx) ever phoned
me when they wanted to deliver a parcel to me *). Either someone was at home
or they left a card upon delivering.

Ronald

*) I had to register with my phone number on several online purchases for registration
reasons, sometimes my phone number was on the parcels although it was not part
of my delivery address.

The software that we use for shipping requires it...I don't know what in the
world they do with it, as it doesn't show up on the package itself, and we hand
fill out customs forms. LOL

Please add an entry for Telephone Number to the info members enter when supplying
their address. This information should NOT be mandatory, but optional for those
that wish to supply it.

There are a number of instances where a phone number is necessary and / or beneficial.
The USPS requires a phone number for international orders to a PO Box. Parcel
services such as FedEx and UPS also request phone numbers for recipients.

Many members also wish to supply their phone number, but this is usually accomplished
by including it as part of their address or by sending it in a separate e-mail.
This can be confusing and the number can get lost in the shuffle.

Again, this would be optional. I don't wish to force anyone to divulge information
that they do not wish to. But some people want to provide the info, and some
people need it, so it would be nice for there to be a place for it.

As a bonus, I would like to have different settings for buying and selling.
As in one number for orders I place and one number for orders I receive.

Troy

EXCELLENT suggestion. We get quite a few buyers that give their phone number
for one purpose or another - and it would be nice for them to not have to type
it out (instead they could just put in the note "please list my phone number
on the package"). As well, agreed, for certain shipping options it would be
nice to not have to go back and ask the buyer for this information.

However - I can see where some people would only want to include a phone number
part of the time - and there it would seem they'd have to remove/add it when
they wanted to, which is where the notes come in to play...

Hmmmm...
