| Hello, please be advised I've just added a batch of new Marvel CMFs. (bags
cut to verify) At time of posting they are the cheapest in the US. No fees, no
handling charges, actual USPS 1st class rates for shipping.
Thank you

| | Sometimes I think people just read the first sentence of a message and nothing
else.
|
There's no "sometimes" about it. That's where we are at now.
I used to try to keep my emails to 3 sentences or less because I knew that's
all people would read.
Now I have to remember that people don't read emails at all. I don't
know what the current online messaging formats are, so I am lucky if I can get
through to people with texts of less than 5 words.

There's your problem. Go to Harbor Freight and buy a cheap scale. Use Paypal.com/shipnow
or some other similar service to print postage at home. You get a cheaper rate
and you can just hand the outgoing packages to your carrier instead of driving
to the PO.
Many, if not most sellers do this, so they are able to charge less for shipping.

| I can confirm that BL's system DID NOT charge me sales tax when I paid for
an order today.
So that indicates that whatever tax-collection software BL is using knew about
my state's tax-free weekend and correctly applied it to my order.
Thank you

| Our third-party tax solution is supposed to account for sales tax holidays. In
fact, we have coded certain categories in the catalog to align with the typical

and we'll look into it.

If I buy a Lego set from Target or a minifig via a seller on eBay, they are not
subject to sales tax in my state for these 2 days. I don't see why it should
be any different for a set or a part bought through BL.

Given that, I would think that this has come up before, and someone has an answer.
Or at the very least some experience with what happened.

| I would bet heavily on them not to honor tax-free days. AFAICS there is no automated
way of knowing which states have what days tax-free. To implement this, BL would
have to first put in some code to disable taxes for certain states on certain
days, and then somehow track what all these states do (by constantly reading
government web pages?) and manually add these exceptions to the system.
|
It may not be fair to compare BL to sites like eBay or Amazon etc., but those
marketplaces handle tax holidays.
Do these sites each build their own software individually? I.E. eBay's tax
collection system is exclusive to eBay and isn't some package available from
TaxSoft Inc.?
Meaning that each site has to handle tax holidays by brute force as you suggest,
rather than having TaxSoft Inc. automatically update things as my layman's
brain assumed?
Thank you

| Apologies if this topic has been covered, I tried searching but I couldn't
find anything.
Does BL's tax collecting system account for sales tax holidays? My state
(MA) is having a tax-free weekend tomorrow and Sunday. There will be no sales
tax charged on any items below $2,500, including items ordered online.
I know big sites like eBay etc. work this into their systems, do we know if BL
will as well? I may be mistaken, but I think this is the first time our state
has done this since BL started collecting sales tax.
I was thinking of spending a bit of disposable income here this weekend, but
I don't want to get into a situation where I have to chase down sales tax
I wasn't legally obligated to pay.
Thank you

Lego already sent the cease and desist and the company already pulled the gun.
According to this article, they sold less than 20:

| Just wondering how you could profit from such a weird "business scheme".
|
Does Lego's site (or any other site for that matter) offer free shipping?
If so, that's one way this scheme could result in potential profits.
I recently sold a boxed set here that cost more than $50 to ship. It was a retired
set, but if a similar sale happened for a current set, someone could theoretically
charge the BL buyer for shipping, have it shipped for free from Lego and keep
the substantial shipping charges.
If a BL seller offered a set that retails for $100 for $90, they could potentially
pull in some deal-seekers. Some of them might not know or think about the potential
free shipping from other sites and pull the trigger. The seller charges them
the USPS rate of ~$50 for a large box and pockets the difference.
It's a lot of work and there are a few 'ifs' in there, but it is
an angle.
Thank you

People buy from BL with the idea that it's the same as ordering from Amazon.
"Free" shipping, delivery times of a couple days, no-questions asked returns
etc. are all now expected when ordering anything online.
I am on the Lego sub on Reddit and people there ask questions about ordering
from BL at least a couple times each week. The questions make it abundantly clear
that many new BL users do not understand that they are ordering from individuals
rather than from a giant company called BrickLink.
