Hello! I’ve noticed recently that some sales data when you look at global sales
of a particular element goes back beyond the traditional six month cut off. It’s
usually very spotty though, just a few purchase examples. There’s no blue box,
so I don’t think it’s my purchases, but then perhaps the blue box doesn’t appear
because the order is no longer on the system after six months?

Can anyone illuminate me?

NPB completed orders are not purged, I guess BrickLink needs to be able to prove
it.
Don't know for how long though. The oldest NPB order in my sales history
is from nov 2019 but I'm quite sure there have been older orders NPB'd.
So.. maybe 2 years?

Donno maybe 3 years ...my oldest NPB is from Dec 2018

something about I couldn't do anything with the NPB until 7/8. Then last
night, I got another automated message saying the NPB was removed andchanged
from NPB to Pending by BrickLink Administration on Jul 8, 2021.

What should I be doing? It would be my preference for the NPB to stick with
this buyer as I went through the trouble of pulling their order, packaging, figuring
out international shipping costs, etc.

"Shipping is too high" is a legitimate reason to cancel an order:
https://www.bricklink.com/help.asp?helpID=79

"Seller provided a shipping fee that was too high (not clearly stated in T&C)"

Heck a lot of International buyers would have hit the back button long before
ordering ...did you check out the handling fees ?

That sucks. While no one wants to receive parts that are the wrong color, since
you gave the buyer a full refund, I don't see why you deserve negative feedback.
Mixing up colors is a common thing to do, especially with pink and purple.

Reading the feedback they left it is obvious why they left the negative. It
feels like nothing other than sending the correct parts would change it from
a negative and it might not even then. Even if it was corrected 100% with the
colors they ordered they might leave a negative. Feedback is based on how they
felt about the transaction, some people are less forgiving of mistakes than others.

Still, when ordering parts that are ultra rare, the onus is on the buyer to ensure
the seller knows what they are selling. I have sent comparison pictures to the
seller BEFORE buying to ensure that the seller has what I am looking for ...most
of the time, the sellers can confirm they have it, and sometimes they admit they
have a listing error ....and sometimes they just don't have a clue.

  Dear BrickLink members,

We are very pleased to announce that we are adding member Maggiec to the Community
Expert Program. She is being appointed as a BrickLink Inventories Administrator
and will be serving alongside current Inventories Admins Paulvdb and Turez.

For most of you, Maggie needs no introduction. She is a long-time member of the
site, and has served as a Catalog Administrator for 14 years. She has worked
with several well-known catalog administrators including Firefly and Therobo,
and also Dan Jezek himself.

https://www.bricklink.com/memberAdmins.asp

Most people will associate Maggie with the "catalog" side of the Catalog, but
she has also been active as a contributor on the "inventories" side over the
years as well. In fact, she logged the very first inventory change requests back
in June 2004:

https://www.bricklink.com/catalogInvChangeItem.asp?itemType=S&itemNo=4535-1&viewDate=Y&viewStatus=1

Maggie has been a stabilizing force during some very critical times for the BrickLink
site. And we are very pleased she is joining us now for this next journey, and
we feel she will be an excellent addition to our Catalog team.

Please join me in welcoming her!

I always associated her with the movie Cat on a Hot Tin Roof when she was in
the role of Catalog Admin ... Maggie the cat

  As suggested by Baskrie:
"What I also see is that there are many the same kind of items without dimensions.
So a lot of torsos (without arms, 973*), but I also see a lot of stickered items,
for example I have 73 1x4 tiles (2431*) with stickers that have no dimensions,
why don't those stickered items inherent there dimensions from the unstickered
'parent'.
A sticker (or print) will not make the peace larger, yes the sticker will ad
a very small dimension increase, but I don't think anyone is able to measure
that (with normal equipment)."

This.

The catalogue contains really thousands and thousands of items that could be
fixed in a minute by BL itself. Basically all printed tiles / bricks / shields
and other printed parts have the same packing dimensions as their unprinted versions.
Same for torso's, legs, heads.

While it's nice that you added this feature you could have done the
above first. This wouldn't be too much of a problem to program/execute, right?
So for all element that have a pb extension this could be automated.
Examples:

Part No: 3004 Name: Brick 1 x 2
*
3004 Brick 1 x 2
Parts: Brick {Blue}
has 244 printed or stickered variants

[P=3069b,7]
has 969 printed or stickered variants

Part No: 2431 Name: Tile 1 x 4
*
2431 Tile 1 x 4
Parts: Tile {Blue}
has 793 printed or stickered variants

and 973pb* (torso) brings up 8620 items - all have the same weight and
packaging dimensions.
Here's the link for this search: https://www.bricklink.com/v2/search.page?q=973pb*#T=A

Russell, now that TLG owns BL you have a wealth of resources that you could have
used before asking the community to help.

TL;DR: why do you ask the BL (seller)community to fill in the gasps in your inventory
while BL/TLG could have this problem solved easily for thousands of parts (perhaps
90% of the parts that are missing packing dimensions).

+1, it has been raised many times before.

I suspect that they may have lost the

Part No: 40359a Name: Minifigure, Utensil Key
*
40359a Minifigure, Utensil Key
Parts: Minifigure, Utensil
(or the expertise) to the database

Part No: 2958pb051 Name: Technic, Disk 3 x 3 with Dark Red 'SECURITY VAULT' on Gold Background Pattern (Sticker) - Set 8107
*
2958pb051 Technic, Disk 3 x 3 with Dark Red 'SECURITY VAULT' on Gold Background Pattern (Sticker) - Set 8107
Parts: Technic, Disk
and have to rely on incomplete admin tools only. If those are in
the same state as the well bespoken seller tools, that explains a lot. Indeed
at the database level (to be more exact: at the data definition level), this
would simply be adding a rule triggered by an update on the packaging dimension
field.

[Items_ItemNr.OnChange]:
UPDATE Items SET Items.PackagingSize = :Ref.PackagingSize WHERE Items.Itemnr
LIKE :Ref.ItemNr & "pb*"

It was either hire a web monkey @ $15.00/hour or have the BL community do
it for free ...kinda like their alpha and beta testing of program updates

Theres no good way to communicate why i want to cancel my orders sometimes. I

along those lines

When you place an order on BrickLink, your seller spends time reviewing it, invoicing
you, pulling the parts, weighing/estimating items for shipping.

How do you account for their time if you can keep placing and canceling orders?
Most of us are just individuals running our businesses out of our homes. We are
not big companies that can easily absorb these kinds of incidental costs.

Also, keep in mind that BrickLink displays how many canceled orders a seller
has right on their storefront feedback page. It might seem like a small thing,
but lots of canceled orders do throw up red flags.

Lastly, sellers feel vulnerable to neutral or negative feedback when they cancel
an order for a buyer who simply changed their mind.

Please consider your sellers when you are shopping here!
Jen

They should show how many orders a buyer cancels. From what the OP wrote,
it sounds like this is a frequent occurrence with her.

Items such as large documents, oversize envelopes and heavy cards. Emphasis on
oversized envelopes. ive dropped lettemail like this off at the post office directly

Well you and your buyers have been lucky. You've saved yourselves a few cents
at the risk of having it returned or destroyed. Just because you haven't
had a problem yet doesn't mean that what you are doing is the best way of
doing it.

Not even sure it's ethical or strictly legal either.

Most of my orders are domestic. I’ve personally never had a problem keeping
it under 2cm with only several bags. (I don’t stack) Besides Quebec’s for some
reason I’ve had it several times from Quebec that I’ve gotten lettermail returned
even if it’s under 2 can with a note saying to large for lettermail but when
I measure it at home it’s well under 2 cm in which case I reship it as parcel
to prevent delays.
Not quite sure what you mean that Canada post didn’t do letttermail internationally
(perhaps not overseas I don’t ship overseas) as most of my USA orders also go
lettermail.
-Jason

Canada Post had a class of service called Light packet which was similar to Lettermail
but for other than paper maximum width 2.0 cm and was much cheaper than Small
Packet.

They only have Small Packet and Tracked Packet now which don't have the 2.0
cm max width requirement, as well as Lettermail which is supposed to be for only
paper and doesn't require a customs form. Not sure how you can ship LEGO
as Lettermail since it requires a customs form.

  Hi!

1. I Usually Use 2 bags (1 for new and 1 for used) if the order can be shipped
in either a 4x8 or 6.5x10 Inch Envelope which generally for most orders (not
all) is under 100 Bricks and usually less than 50 lots (often under 25).

2. For Larger orders that I ship parcels I use Some "party" Cups to hold the
bricks while pulling the order and once that cup is modestly full (about 75%)
It gets its own ziplock bag which generally fills the bag about halfway full
and contains usually no more than 150-200 bricks in 25-50 lots.

3. Usually I only put 1 item per bag if it is a bulky brick or if it has 100
or more of the brick however I do sometimes mix it with 1 other large quantity
lot if there is still lots of room in the bag.

I still try to bag glass pieces in their own bag to prevent scratching and all
Minifigures are bagged separately.

Hope this helps!
-Jason

I guess most of your orders aren't being shipped domestically as Lettermail.
Keeping the padded envelope thickness under the 2.0 cm width pretty much guarantees
you need to use more smaller bags vs 1 or 2 large bags, and be very creative
in packing tightly (without stacking).

Canada Post removed Lettermail Internationally some years ago, but it still is
a money saver for Canadian shipping for small orders.

So, Paypal ensures the money transaction is legit, but you can get scammed by
a dishonest refund request. I would take pictures of the items before packing,
the package itself, and most importantly insure the package through a local service.

This way, even if an eventually bogus refund comes through, you could get the
sale money back from insurance. This service is usually charged to the buyer
if you stated it in your store terms or if you received a quote.

The only dealings I have had with insurers (3rd party and Postal Services) ...they
want a statement from the receiver to attest that they didn't receive the
package before they will issue a refund. If the scammer doesn't provide it,
what are you going to do? Threaten the scammer with ?

A legit buyer who doesn't get their order will most of the time, help you
get your money back (since they already have been refunded by you or PP,they
don't *need* to do it, except to be fair to you) ...but a scammer doesn't
care about you and prolly won't so to say that insurance will get you the
money back is a stretch

HAHAHAH my girlfriend in SC does that to me all the time ... sends me something
without even telling me ...then asks Did you get it yet?

All the while she has the tracking number but doesn't bother to let me know
what it is so i can arrange to at least look for the "delivered to the neighbour's
bar-b-q" type of deliveries.

In a frankly unexpected turn of events, today I received one of the two Canadian
packages I was expecting, and to my utter surprise, I discovered that it was
a tracked package, the seller just didn't enter the tracking number in the
order!

I could have known when this package was going to be delivered the whole time!

*cue Luke Skywalker's "Noooooo" soundbite*

I don't blame the seller, as a result of this rather benign omission, shipping
was way shorter than expected and I'm simply glad to have the package on
hand.

The other good news is that this package was the one that shipped later compared
to the other, so I still have good hopes for a forthcoming delivery.

I've NEVER had an untracked (knock on wood) shipment to the US lost... ever.
It may take time, but it's really worth the risk to use small packet vs.
tracked packet. Shipping time can really vary. It sometimes takes 4 weeks from
Ontario to BC so to the US 4 weeks isn't unheard of. And, honestly, shipments
from the US to me take 2-3 weeks, too. It's hard to wait, because invariably
by the time I get the parts I don't remember why I ordered them...

Shipping times vary. Long long ago shipping across the country or to the States
was in the 3 to 4 week time frame and steadily improved til it was 4 or 5 business
days ...and then COVID struck. And it appears to be back to the 3 - 4 week range.

Padded envelopes do rarely go missing (delivered to wrong address, buyer lying,
post office or porch theft) but overall very rare.

Or often are the unexplained delays ...Had a padded envelope go missing from
Vancouver to Victoria (90 miles or less), waited and waited and finally after
3 weeks refunded the buyer ...At the 2 month mark the buyer repays me as the
envelope just showed up ...no visible markings or any indication where it had
gone for 2 months.

Or the package(tracked) that made it to the border and thru customs in 2 days
...and then took another week to get to downstate Washington ....and the buyer
blamed Canada Post for the delay ...wahahahah

to reach me in the US since I have no way to know when they will arrive, I recall
that in the same order batch I already received a tracked package from Canada
and the shipping fee wasn't higher than for the untracked ones.

Is there a specific condition for Canadian Sellers to obtain a tracking number
for their packages to the US? Or is it a lesser known feature that they can offer
tracking to US Buyers at no/little added cost?

This question is just a thin-veiled beg for Canadian stores to offer tracking
to me personally since I have a hard time dealing with not knowing when packages
arrive. I have been spoiled by the USPS tracking service and I was elated to
find out it could also work with Canadian packages, except few Canadian sellers
offer this feature.

It causes problems for sellers when packing.

In my opinion, if you're depending on a tiny picture rather than a clear
description to identify the part you're packing, you're already a poor
seller. Maybe that explains why so many parts I order arrive in a slightly different
color. I had a horrible seller send me a cheap Red piece instead of a rare and
valuable Dark Red piece back in February, and then insist he had packed the correct
one and that I was lying despite sending him pictures and having the part sitting
right in front of me.

Every seller has a system that works for them. Calling a seller poor because
they use the picture as well as the description is harsh.

Picture or not, mistakes in colour happen ...once sent a bunch of expensive Dark
Blue instead of the cheaper Blue parts ....when informed by the buyer, i didn't
ask for pictures, or return of parts ...I just apologized and sent what they
ordered.

And I certainly don't call buyers who order the wrong part, poor buyers.

Sometimes knowing your buyer helps ...when they order a bunch of LBG parts and
one odd lot in LG when the part is also available in my store in LBG
Or the buyer who I *knew* wanted a particular variant of a part and he ordered
the other.

A little communication that slows down the transaction but ends up in a successful
and faster overall transaction (no need to resend parts ...discuss why the parts
received were what they ordered etc)
