I wonder what happens when you register for the OSS. Does it mean that from that
point you are obligated to use it (ie. count VAT per country, at each
individual country's VAT rates), or does it mean you just have access
to that tax reporting environment?

I am asking because in the latter case, nobody needs to be "banned" unnecessarily.
Some sellers don't need to use the new system but Bricklink will say they
do (I am thinking about margin VAT sellers, and possibly sellers who sold over
the limit last year but will not do so this year). If they just register for
the OSS and provide the ID in their profile, they can continue to sell and they
can decide for themselves whether to use it or not.

Margin VAT sellers could just enter their VAT and OSS ID if Bricklink requires
it and continue to sell as before. The only real difference would be export out
of the EU, where the seller misses out on the full (19%-27%) VAT amount. They
could compensate by higher shipping rates though. Far from perfect but significantly
better than not being able to sell here at all.

This is not a big deal for me personally as I am not currently selling here,
so I can plan it when I want.. but... really?!

The catalog changes are scheduled for April 1. That's only 2 weeks away.
I noticed that this is a DRAMATIC catalog update that will throw the entire store
upside down. Definitely won't be able to take my entire 1.2 million parts
store apart and piece it back together just casually within these next two weeks
between sorting orders. Especially moving all the wedges will be be fun puzzle.

Not gonna object against any changes, they seem alright to me. Except that there's
one change clearly missing from that list: Moving the 2x2 corner brick to Brick,
Modified.. (since plate and tile are there)

I hope this really was THE update everyone was waiting for, and now we're
satisfied..

Was searching my train department upside down for this part...

Part No: 38339 Name: Train Wheel RC, Holder with Pin Slots
*

Parts: Wheel

But I see it is in "Wheel"... is this a mistake? Since, well, it clearly is not
a wheel

Again, can Bricklink please do something about the way the mininum average lot
value is explained to the buyer? I am getting many messages about it and find
myself explaining the same thing over and over. Please improve these descriptions
in the interface. Maybe by including an example, and by changing the terminology.
As is evident from many forum posts as well, many fresh buyers don't even
know what a "lot" is supposed to mean, let alone they will understand the concept
of minimum average lot value.

Very surprised to find moving rounded bricks to the Slope,Curved category. How
many people really were in favour of that idea and how many were against? I thought
the general sentiment was that curved slopes are an entirely different thing
than parts with a quarter circle.
Putting rounded parts in Slope,Curved really makes no sense to me. I'd really
like to see some kind of vote on this as I cannot imagine this is intuitive to
the users.

It's only a week now until September. What's the status on the upcoming
catalog changes? Haven't seen any posts about it lately. Is this project
already finished?

And I haven't seen any updates on this page recently either, but I don't
think this will be all, will it?

https://www.bricklink.com/help.asp?helpID=2487

Hope it will be wrapped up and updated soon, so I can start assessing how to
adapt my store.

I've never quite understood why you are not allowed to set the minimum order
of a shipping method lower than the minimum order of your store. It's annoying
because if you have 10 shipping methods, then anytime you want to change your
minimum order, you need to also change it 10x in your shipping methods, for no
real reason, because the "master setting", the store minimum order value, should
determine it already.

However, it seems it's also causing another problem: Buyers can use the bypass
password to get around the minimum order, but it does not help them go
around the minimum order of the shipping methods. The result is that anytime
a buyer used the bypass password, they are able to order but unable to select
any shipping methods. So there will need to be a manual invoice.

I'd propose removing the restriction for shipping methods to have a minimum
order value that is higher than or equal to the store minimum order value - in
fact, I'd propose for shipping methods not to need a minimum value at all.
That should solve everything I described without any side effects.

That's funny. I just encountered 4 of these:

Part No: 4150 Name: Tile, Round 2 x 2
*
4150 Tile, Round 2 x 2
Parts: Tile, Round

With "X" bottom in Light Bluish Gray in some 2019 sets. I mixed together many
sets so unfortunately, I can't trace which one it's from. But it's
definitely a set from this year. According to the catalog, the part died out
in 2014.

I can't discover anything panel-ish about this part. I'd say it's

I'm not super technical and as a kid I was terrible at making anything out
of Technic Lego so in spite of my dad's efforts I quickly abandoned it and
never picked it up again. But I'm seriously wondering if the Technic categories
make any sense at all. I'm not good at the jargon and especially not in English,
but here's my observation:

- There's a category called "Link", which includes belt/chain items as well
as suspension parts. Is that just a random semantic, well, "link" between these
parts?
- It seems like there's a whole family of parts that have to do with driving/gears
- clutches, gearboxes, driving rings, changeover catch.. all of these parts are
scattered across categories but I think they are supposed to work together.
- There's a category called steering but it seems to be about wheel suspension
as well as, well, steers. And then there are suspension arms in both "Link" and
in the generic "Technic" category that I think are equally involved in this stuff.
- There's a generic "Technic" category which includes very random items.
While there was a fanatic impulse of emptying out the "(other)" category, apparently
the "Technic" category is still full of randomness. And it's now the biggest
Technic category (if you don't count decorations). That isn't very helpful
is it?

So... I never used this stuff, but a question to the Technic pros: Do you find
that the Technic categories make sense to you, or is it just a fairly random
division that you just memorised the way it is? Should it be improved?

I'm working on my own webshop and want it to synchronise well with my Bricklink
store. My software seems to work pretty well, but now I'm wondering, does
it happen that names/numbers of parts change on Bricklink, and if so, how often
does that occur? I want to gauge how necessary it is to do some extra coding
to accommodate for this.

LOL, so the Christmas giftset 40292 has a male and a female hairpiece so that

uploaded a picture where the alternate hair is put on the DAD's head, kind

So.. what's the deal with the Projectile Launcher category? Currently has
one item:

Part No: 15301c01 Name: Projectile Launcher, 1 x 4 Spring Shooter with Light Bluish Gray Top
*
15301c01 Projectile Launcher, 1 x 4 Spring Shooter with Light Bluish Gray Top
Parts: Projectile Launcher

I proposed this category so various shooters can be grouped together, since they
are now scattered across categories and in my opinion it's pretty arbitrary.
I assume this category is still a work in progress, but anyway I thought it could
be useful to post about it.

Just have a look, (I have left out variants and some projectiles just to keep
the post tidy)

Part No: 35456c01 Name: Projectile Launcher, Net Shooter with Dark Bluish Gray Firing Pin (35456 / 35457)
*
35456c01 (Inv) Projectile Launcher, Net Shooter with Dark Bluish Gray Firing Pin (35456 / 35457)
Parts: Projectile Launcher

This one is in Vehicle - did you guess that? Even though it also appears as a
fixed shooter.

Part No: x110c01 Name: Projectile Launcher, Cannon Shooting
*
x110c01 Projectile Launcher, Cannon Shooting
Parts: Projectile Launcher

Part No: 18588 Name: Projectile Launcher Part, Rapid Shooter Six Barrel - Angled Barrels
*
18588 Projectile Launcher Part, Rapid Shooter Six Barrel - Angled Barrels
Parts: Projectile Launcher

These are in Minifig,Weapon - even though they cannot be held by a minifig
or are part of a weapon held by a minifig, unlike every single other entry in
this category.

Part No: 57029c01 Name: Projectile Launcher, Cannon, Flat Bottom
*
57029c01 Projectile Launcher, Cannon, Flat Bottom
Parts: Projectile Launcher

These are in the generic Technic category - which probably is a category that
we want to reduce as much as possible in general, and these shooters are massively
more frequent in non-Technic sets. Actually I struggle to find Technic sets with
them.

Part No: 16968 Name: Projectile Launcher, 1 x 4 with Inside Clips (Disk Shooter)
*
16968 Projectile Launcher, 1 x 4 with Inside Clips (Disk Shooter)
Parts: Projectile Launcher

This one is in Brick,Modified, even though it has pretty much exactly the same
characteristics as the one and only part that is currently in Projectile Launcher.

Part No: 15403 Name: Projectile Launcher, 1 x 2 Mini Blaster / Shooter
*
15403 Projectile Launcher, 1 x 2 Mini Blaster / Shooter
Parts: Projectile Launcher

This one is in Plate,Modified - while that is not altogether unlogical, I still
wouldn't guess it, especially if a Brick,Modifidish part is already in Projectile
Launcher.

[P=19020c01]

Part No: 15303 Name: Projectile Arrow, Bar 8L with Round End (Spring Shooter Dart)
*
15303 Projectile Arrow, Bar 8L with Round End (Spring Shooter Dart)
Parts: Projectile Launcher

The Bar category is expanding a bit too rapidly to my taste, these items have
limited Bar-like constructional value, and they would do great in a Projectile
Launcher category, or called Shooters & Projectiles or something, grouping projectiles
together with the things that fire them, which are already in that category.

What do you think?

I would really like to see a new parameter for lots that limits the amount a
buyer can buy of a certain part in any one order. The part would then turn up
in search results and in store inventory showing not more than the value specified.
It's something that many online stores use, notably also LEGO themselves.

So far the way to do this is to offer the desired max amount, put in remarks
how much is left, and put the item on retain. This has several drawbacks, most
of all:
- You have to manually reoffer and modify the remarks all the time
- You cannot see or accurately modify the price and other stats of your inventory
because part of the amount of what you have is hidden in remarks

This could all be solved by 1 simple extra field, that is left on 0 when unused.

Of course, the item should not appear updated for users that still have an order
that has not yet reached the packed status. Of course buyers can buy again after
that, but separate shipping and handling fees should be sufficient to bar the
effect of buyers blowing sudden holes in your inventory.

I'm trying to give someone who lives near free shipping over a certain order
total but I tried two ways and both fail. First I tried to create a shipping
method for it, but I can't seem to make it conditional on either region or
password to unlock it. Is there any other way that I forgot to think about?

Next I tried to give this guy a coupon that would correspond to the cost of shipping,
but that also didn't work.

See picture. Why is this part blank? That's weird. Why can you only make
a percentage discount conditional and not a fixed discount?

Suggestion: Allow fixed discounts to be conditional as well.

I have no real personal reason to be posting this suggestion and haven't
thought about what it would mean for my own business, but just something I want
to throw out there as I've been thinking about it for a while.

Why not separate professional sellers and private sellers? I mean with an icon,
a label, a colour, something like that. Right now there are private persons just
getting rid of some old parts they aren't using, and online stores that use
Bricklink as their platform. An entirely different world in every aspect, but
they will show up in exactly the same way.

For years and years there's this eternal clash going on between buyers and
sellers and it seems like they sometimes speak different languages when the buyers
demand "their rights" and the seller has no idea what they're talking about.
Much if not most of the grief going on on Bricklink may be caused by buyers buying
from private sellers and expecting business service. The main example I can think
of now is about whose problem it is when a package is lost, but also tax and
refund issues get confusing if it's unclear whether we're talking about
two people trading or about consumer rights.

So how about labels for private sellers and professional sellers?

In my opinion, icons that accurately represent functionality are a key part in
having a good interface. It has come to my attention that the icon of the Community
tab is outdated and needs improvement. Briklink has changed alot and the smiley
face simply does not suit a modern Bricklink where a forum is intended for poorly
informing the community of unwanted selfish business decisions only to ignore
the responses.

I've designed a better icon for this tab. Hope to see this implemented soon!

Instant checkout is great and I am glad we have it now. However, the interface
side of things is still a drama for me. Sometimes someone helps me out sorting
orders, and I found that I'm unable to explain which orders need to be sorted,
since the new system.

"Sort all order that are 'pending' and updated and do not have the grand
total in bold, AND the ones that are 'ready' ONLY when the grand total
IS bold, AND the ones that are 'paid', unless they have already been
sorted or are being sorted'

I have to explain it over and over and we keep ending up with double sorted orders
sometime. Things used to be easy. pending = sort. updated = sort. ready = sorted.

I can compensate some of it by manually changing the status of the orders to
make it clearer what's to be done, yes, that solves part of it. It is just
that it is a bit more mistake-prone than the old system and I have to frown a
little harder to see what's up with the shop than I used to. The inconvenience
is not massive but it is one that persists day after day, and it is an unnecessary
one. Therefore, I think something should change.

I wish that either option of these would be implemented:

1. Do not auto change the status of orders to "ready" when instant checkout is
being used. Let sellers use this to indicate the order really IS ready. All received
orders are always "pending". (And while we're at it, better yet: Do not send
invoices automatically. The majority of webstores I know do not do this. BO also
does not do this. Please let me make my invoices manually. The ones Bricklink
generates are a redundant mix of payment instruction and order confirmation,
both of which already exist)

2. Add a check or other object to indicate SORT and SORTED. How about a red square
meaning SORT that appears by default when the order is placed (paid or not paid),
green when you tap it once meaning SORTED, and orange when tapped again meaning
DO NOT SORT for whatever reason.

I am aware you can split payment and order status. However, my screen is already
too wide as it is, and it involves alot more clicking. Also, I do not want another
status in the list. Just some way purely for the seller's side to have clear
administration about their tasks.

Instant checkout is pretty cool, and the BL team even took the trouble for us
to retrieve tables of postage costs from various postal services across the world.
Sweet!

However, the same could be done for payment methods, but currently the system
involves manually enter a percentage fee.

In the EU, it's not allowed to overcharge payment methods. Of course it's
legally allowed to charge anything as long as buyer and seller agree, but it
would be much more neat and more right for Bricklink ethics if there was no ability
to overcharge.

SUGGESTION: Auto-calculate payment method fee instead of allowing manual percentages.

This can be done in exactly the same way the system currently entertains postage
prices. It would be extremely useful, as for example PayPal fee percentages are
difficult to find out, difficult to remember, and difficult to calculate with
manually. This has always been giving sellers a quasi-valid excuse to overcharge
on it.

I hope that in the future custom percentage fees can be abolished entirely.

P.S.: In some countries it is not allowed to charge an additional fee for a payment
method. That's another topic. Bricklink could gray out the option for certain
region/payment method combinations, or simply leave it to the seller's responsibility.
Whatever is legally OK for Bricklink.

P.S.: A next step could be to calculate any percentage fees in the listings automatically.
This can be done by matching a seller's payment options to a buyer's
specified payment options, picking the cheapest, retrieve the fee, and factor
it into search results, into browsing in stores, etc.

I've posted this before and was told Bricklink doesn't prioritise mobile
devices, but anyway, I would really really like to be able to use Bricklink properly
on my tablets. They are just much more comfortable to walk around with when sorting
orders than laptops.. but I can't, since I cannot use the menus. When I click
on the icons in the top bar, the dropdown menu appears properly, but whenever
I click on an item the menu disappears and nothing happens.

You can partly work around it by sending the links from a desktop computer and
then bookmarking them on the tablet, but it's still not comfortable.

Can this please be solved? I have this issue on a Lenovo as well as a Windows
Surface, in all browsers, so I'm sure I'm not the only one.

Funny, I was thinking about it this morning and then received an e-mail that
the main Dutch second hand trading website Marktplaats.nl has just implemented
it: iDeal as a payment method.

This is not as much a major issue as supporting IBAN, but still it would be really
nice thing if BL would choose to add iDeal. More than 300,000,000 transactions
the Netherlands per year, most Dutch people are comfortable with it and use it
regularly. The Netherlands is a large country on Bricklink, so I think that if
it is not hugely complicated to implement, it would be a really good upgrade.
And, for the Bricklink team probably very nice: It is an onsite, instant checkout
compatible payment method.
