If you're using Avery labels you can download templates from their website.
I'm sure they would work with other labels as well.

That is a good idea, I will look into it. Thank you!

Hopefully not for long. But perhaps I can shed some insight as I have a background
as a photographer/videographer.

I can't say what camera, but for pictures like this a macro lens is required
to get close in shots with tiny objects like Lego. If Mark is using a DSLR of
some kind or comparable then shooting uncompressed photos will retain sharper
images.

I can't say what filters Mark used, but a polarizer filter can help greatly
with reducing reflective / semi-reflective surfaces like Lego.

And Mark is most likely using a light box of some sort or using white surfaces
of some kind to bounce the light for even lighting/softer shadowing.

Hopefully Mark will be back to elaborate but hopefully this information is helpful
in the meantime.

A very nice site you’re constructing. The detail of information and quality is
amazing!

I’m curious though, why do all of the active links on your fup page, link
to Law’s site, Brick Owl?

That is a very good and important question.

I am curious now. Is this allowed? Because the links were not directly shared
of BO but overall this seems like a conflict on interest with the TOS? Yeah,
no?

agulus’s input in this thread has reignited a persistent and nagging thought
of mine: https://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=1176265

It’s a valid point made by member agulus, that has unfortunately been ongoing
as an issue, in the face of contrary input towards the feedback policy.

I’ve brought it up in the past, that a neutral should be just that, neutral,
and not effect your feedback percentage number displayed, up or down.

Beyond the obvious reasons, is the fact that there are many newish buyers that
mistakenly see BL’s neutral, as neutral. Silly people Meanwhile, it continues
to result in an amount of havoc in that arena of BrickLink.

I look forward to reading your honest thoughts

-Cory

I think Bl's feedback system is somewhat dated. Neutral's should be
more benign rather then similar to negatives.

CURRENT BL FEEDBACK SYSTEM
Positive: accurate
Neutral: overly harsh / may encourage retaliation
Negative: accurate yet may encourage retaliation

I think emulating the eBay model would be a good adaptation. The feedback percentage
is more reflective of a seller's current feedback reputation of the last
12 months vs lifetime like on Bricklink. Meaning a single negative from 6 years
ago doesn't hold the overall feedback percentage down beyond a year, that
is if the seller has cleaned up their act and do no accrue any more negatives/neutrals.

I see frequent enough comment threads here on Bricklink that have complaints
about a seller or buyer receiving retaliation feedback or expressing fear that
they may receive one if they leave accurate feedback. Negatives are warning signs
for sellers to work harder and make improvements. But if the punishment is too
harsh then message may not be received properly.
This mindset has potential to create a retaliatory like atmosphere.

Bricklink it is a cash cow.
Bricklink it's a business who generate profit.
Jung-Ju “Jay” Kim bought Bricklink to make a profit.
Jung-Ju “Jay” Kim didn't want to spend his profit on Bricklink.
Jung-Ju “Jay” Kim take his profit and leave it to Lego to invest.
So, Bricklink it is a cash cow.

Plus, it's double dipping for Lego.
Everything on Bricklink has already been sold by TLG once.
I think they are really going to expand on that AFOL designer program from around
a half a year ago.

As BrainOfTheBrick has stated, Bricklink is not like amazon but, imo, more like
a Lego flea market with thousands of different stores with a lot of different
styles of selling. Amazon can combine all your items into one purchase and potentially
combine shipping for some items, if applicable.

If you are looking for quicker ways to purchase on Bricklink then you could stick
to the Bricklink stores that use "Instant Checkout", signified by having a lightning
bolt. That way you don't have to wait for a store owner to send you a manual
invoice.

I suggest a new forum subtopic, under Off Topic: Pets

Anecdotes and/or pics of your pets? Maybe of interrupting your lego work or other
mischief. Or just an introduction of your nonhuman companion, new or old. What
your pet did today

Even though we don't have furry companions (son's allergies) we really
enjoy animal pics and stories. Think most do, evidenced by it's popularity
on youtube.

What do think? Think there is enough interest to warrant a sub-topic in the forum?

Captain Q approves.

Here are two kittens I am keeping of a 4 kitten litter I saved from living a
life as feral cats; named Tenshi and Quark. I found them while feeding some
feral cats. They were too young to capture right away, around 5 weeks, so I
pre-socialized them on the outside with wet food and playing with a cat favorite
toy, the fake bird on a string and stick. Had to do it at night as apartment
management disapproves of feeding the feral cats. Took some night vision video,
that I have not gotten around to editing yet.

Just noticed that the picture is rotated the wrong way, will leave it as is,
because it amuses me.

Meh. Gave it some thought and didn't like it and changed it back. I'm
just going to retitle these heads so that they're searchable and they'll
also show up near the top of the list of heads:

Part No: 3626cpb1109 Name: Minifigure, Head without Face with Orange Fish with 3 White Eyes Pattern (The Simpsons Blinky) - Hollow Stud

Parts: Minifigure, Head

Maybe you could utilize something like ( NON-figure ) or something to that extent.
Or the ones that are not associated with figures could be moved over to ( brick,
round, decorated ) to help differentiate?

The Captain Q Bazaar utilizes this feature, and I think it is necessary to in
lieu of Instant checkout. Not every Bricklink store is the same with Policies
and ToS, and because of that it is not always clear from store to store, what
the final cost with fees and shipping prices will be upon checkout.

I would think every store would want to have this feature to make it easier for
a potential buyer to make a purchase.

But...

I will abstain from voting as believe a store should want to use this feature
but I rather they not be forced to do so for reasons I have not foreseen.

Cheers,
Captain Q

Twice in the last day I have sent an email to a seller asking for a quote and

put through the order and then cancel if I don't like the shipping terms.

Bricklink really needs to swings towards the buyers in terms of usage. Take
care of the buyers and things work out better for the sellers. Catering to the
sellers just creates a poor buying environment.

And, of course neither seller will honor the price that I was asking for a quote
on. Of course not. If the thing is in my cart waiting for a shipping quote,
they shouldn't be able to change the price.

LEAVING BULK FEEDBACK:

As a seller, this would be very nice to be able to leave feedback in bulk.

Also, being able to create a few preset feedback message that also can be randomly
assigned would be nice as well.

You don't have to click submit after just one. You can pick a new status
for several orders, and then do the one submit click. So not "change status"
- "submit" - "change status" - "submit" etc, but rather "change status" - "change

Niek.

This is the problem, this is very slow and inefficient. I have currently sold
over 3000 orders on Bricklink over the past couple of years and those 2 clicks
per order turn out to be 6000 clicks when that could be reduced considerably.
That is a little bit of extra time that can be allocated to more important tasks.

I don't see how a different method would save a lot of clicks, you
would still need to select which orders you are changing the status on. Now maybe
if there were hundreds of orders a day needing to be changed I can see how this
would be a benefit, but I'm guessing its not that many.

I change the status of some orders that I receive payment, one by one. No way
around that with BLs current system, though Paypal Onsite/Stripe cut down on
that considerably, nothing to be done about money orders and checks. But once
I have all my orders that have their status already set to Paid and since I ship
them all at once it would be nice to change the status of all the orders from
paid to shipped. The other websites I sell Lego on, allow for this. Bricklink
does not.

Maybe I'm just having a bad day and not understanding things.

Thanks for the response.

When I come home after shipping all my orders, I go to Orders Received page
and make sure to only see "Paid" orders or "Not Yet Shipped" being they are
all the orders I just shipped. The current system only allows for changing
one order at a time from "Paid" to "Shipped" when I would like to change all
order statuses at the same time.

(refer to picture)
For example, in Gmail, you can select a toggle on the left side of the screen
to select all emails. Then you may change the status to "unread", "read" etc.
I would like to have some similar functionality to eliminate the tedium.

Cheers,
Captain Q

  Hi Vegitt,

What I'm thinking of (and possibly what QCHUCKA meant) is something which
would allow you to select all orders in a certain status (for example, all orders
in "Packed" status) and have them update to the next available status (Shipped)
with one click. How it is now, a seller who ships many orders per day has to
manually click the drop-down menu & select the new status for each order individually,
then submit changes at the end.

Let me know if I'm misunderstanding but I think it's a great suggestion!

Thanks!

couple of hundred dollar orders adds up to be a lot of pizzas every year. And
I am just one seller. Your math is completely made up.

How often does this happen? I can remember buyers asking for me to under-declare
MAYBE 5 or 6 times in all the time I have been selling on BrickLink. I glanced
through my last 250 orders. 47 of them were for over $100. Of these 250, 1 person
asked for a lower amount on the customs form.

Marc.

I use to have this happen to me on several different occasions. The buyer would
request that I declare a significantly lesser value then what they wished to
order and also have me claim it was a gift and state on the custom forms "old
used plastic toys" instead of lego. I refused as I wish to not get in trouble
over such matters with the authorities. After the same request happened several
more times, I noticed a pattern and the pattern was the requests came from the
same handful of countries.

My solution, I no longer ship to these countries as well I made it clear in
my ToS that I will not lie on customs forms. It proved to be good solution as
I have not had a request to lie on customs since December of 2014 and for the
last 800 or so orders I have received.

I ship to most countries, and I use to ship to all countries. Until too many
customers representative of their nation bring problems that give cause to revoke
shipping privileges.

Another problem that became resolved, customers from those same countries would
request shipping quotes for large orders and then rarely would follow through.

Suggestion: only moderators can change the subject line.

The past couple of weeks I noticed that some posters in the forum frequently
change the subject line. This is not a good thing. For instance:
The original post was: "Does this qualify for an NSS". But then somebody changed
it to "Seller does not respond".
This is very confusing for anybody and especially for new users.

I agree. "Instant Checkout" started as something else as well. Don't we
have forum moderators any more?

I don't understand what makes it confusing.

If the topic of a new message is different than it was before, it makes sense
to change the subject line. And if a message is a reply to a previous message,
it makes sense for it to be threaded properly.

Marc.

For an innocent derailment, sure. But most of the time that "feature" is used
by someone to argue their point. Better to let a mod keep an eye on things and
change the title when relevant.

Okay. That's a different reason than "It's confusing".

The fact that someone can reply to this message and change the subject line to
"Marc is a fool" doesn't particularly bother me.

Sorry, had to be done.

Crossing threads? As long as it is not as dangerous as crossing streams.

Agreed, it's harder to keep track of replies even if you know how the system
works.

Lol. This thread is almost guaranteed to end up with the most subject changes
of any discussion in BrickLink history.

Fair suggestion.

Sorry I felt it was ironically funny to change the subject title for this thread.

It seems strange that even the "Re:" component can be removed from a title if
it is still a response to another message.

Why not just make a completely different thread if you want to change the subject?
That is why I sort of agree with this.
Only sort of because it becomes its on subthread that is still related to the
main thread and people can enter that new related subthread if they like to or
not.

  There are two problems:
1. new sellers have to start somewhere, if they can't sell, they cannot get selling feedback.

They can earn feedback from experienced buyers ( the majority of the current
users I would say) who would toggle the setting to off.

and

also from buying. A scammer won't waste time to buy.

  2. If BL refers to a user as a trusted seller, then a user that is later scammed may have a claim against BL, for indicating
that the seller was to be trusted.

Ok change the label to something different - "Sellers with Feedback of 5 or
more
"

TRUSTED SELLERS SETTING:

The admins should create a new setting for everybody that only items from trusted
sellers are visible. A trusted seller being a person with at least 5, maybe 10
positive feedback.

They could create a toggle setting for on or off with default set to on. So
newbies wont know about it till they look around and so scammers can't prey
on them initially.

It can be turned off by an experienced buyer who knows what to look out for.

Hopefully this will at least turn away the lazy scammers not willing to build
up feedback.

It'd only be fair to hold the buyer to their commitment, or if they made
a knowingly fraudulent offer to buy everything, show them the door just as they
wanted done for the alleged scammer.

I am the person in question. And if the items were legitimate I would have definitely
bought some of them since the prices were absurdly good. I would have requested
to change my order to be quite a bit less.

BrickLink should prohibit vigilante orders like the one noted in this thread:

http://www.bricklink.com/messageThread.asp?ID=193629

Vigilante orders are bogus orders members place with a store they believe to
be a scammer with the intent to protect other members from being scammed before
BrickLink has time to act on any complaints about such a store. While vigilantes
may claim their intentions are good, I believe there are too many risks and potential
problems with self-appointing oneself as cop, prosecutor, judge and jury in such
a manner.

For one thing, the vigilante may turn out to be incorrect in believing a new
seller to be a scammer. By placing his bogus order, the vigilante harms the new
seller, buyers who might otherwise order from such seller, and the vigilante
himself who now risks an NPB or legal action for breach of contract.

Second, these vigilante orders mess up the Price Guide by validating the bogus
prices to the detriment of others who rely on the Price Guide later.

As others said, two wrongs don't make a right. Placing an order is a binding
contract and, regardless of your reasons, it is just plain wrong to place an
order without any intent of following through with it.

Allowing these vigilante orders will create further problems down the road. If
you justify vigilante orders for new sellers who are thought to be scammers,
someone later on will justify them for not-so-new sellers whose terms they subjectively
believe are invalid, or for seller they think take too long to ship, or for sellers
they believe don't honor PayPal's terms, etc., etc. Once you allow these
vigilante orders, where do you draw the line?

BrickLink should never delegate to any member the power to shut down a store.
Allowing these vigilante orders would effectively make every member an Admin
with the ability to shut down any store they want if they subjectively feel they
are helping other members by doing so. This is a dangerous slippery slope that
should stay exclusively within BrickLink's power.

As such, any member caught making a vigilante order should receive an automatic
NPB.

Yes, you make some valid points I agree that my action was not necessarily the
best choice to take. But I saw what I perceived as a live grenade with it's
pinned pulled. I chose to land on that grenade so other buyers would not potentially
be hit with the explosive fallout and thankfully it was a dud and the admins
saw that and combined his current store into his previous suspended store.

But I didn't do it without consideration. I saw a multitude of flags that
screamed out that this guy was a scammer.

The Facts
1. - he has zero feedback (doesn't necessarily mean anything, but it does
not help his case)
2. - he has an awful lot of inventory value for someone that is new (always suspicious)
3. - someone found that he was associated with several other stores that have
been closed/suspended
4. - I have emailed the said scammer back and forth before and after my "purchase".
I have caught him in several lies in regards to the suspension, about having
multiple accounts, etc.
5. - he claims "I'm a supplier of Ed Padol ( brick dudes ) and Vincent from
Asia." (which seem a highly dubious claim considering he has multiple suspended
stores)

Perhaps I should be punished with an NPB or something of the sort, I took the
risk and I will take any punishment that fits. I have no marks on my account
at this point, so it would be my first.

I think your energy is misplaced tbh. To me, this is a cry out for a restructuring
of how anybody can create a store. I think there needs to be some preventative
measure put in place, because this scammer has created multiple stores before
and will most likely do it again. Because clearly he has made some money doing
it and has been basically slapped on the wrist over and over.

The important question is what can be done to prevent these people from creating
new stores? I don't have a solution

I ask another question. If you see someone getting mugged in the street, do
you sit back and call the cops and wait for them to help, even though they are
most likely minutes away? Or would you perhaps intervene? This is clearly not
the same situation, but similarly injustice is taking place.

Thankfully the admins were prompt, but lets say that they were not and his store
remained open for any number of more days. I would have felt bad if even one
person was scammed, knowing I could have done something to stop it.
