From my own set which I had from new.

Set was originally inventoried from instructions so we don't have evidence
that 4265a was ever in this set. It can always be added again if evidence is
found for its inclusion in this set but based on the part's timeline it's
likely that only 4265b was ever included in this set.

* Change 1 Part Light Gray 2972 Train Base 6 x 34 Split-Level with Bottom Tubes {Regular to Alternate} {match ID 0 to 1}
|
The first variant has three hols on each end as it shows on the instructions.
It was used in starting 1993 for this set and 4547-1. In later productions, the
later variant with one hole on each end was produced coming with this set too.

The set you linked to shows proof for the one-hole version, but I do not feel
comfortable to add the three-hole version just based on the instructions.
At this time,
* | | 2972 Train Base 6 x 34 Split-Level with Bottom Tubes (Undetermined Type) Parts: Train Marked for Deletion |
is basically a catch-all entry since it can include both versions of the part
as the catalog note states. Therefore, the inventory is technically not incorrect
until the one-hole version gets its own catalog entry and this part gets marked
for deletion.
Any additional thoughts on this, Paul?
Randy
|
Hi Randy,
In my opinion, there is no doubt the three-hole was the first version and it
was used for both sets 4547 and 4549. The set 4549 was available in US only as
"shop at home" as far as I see in the catalogs which is why it is rare there.
If you check in some European markets, most copies come with 3-hole versions.
Let me share my thoughts on this one.
This piece is rare, appeared only in early releases of there two sets. If not,
then we should assume that TLG produced both versions since very early 1993,
used the one-hole version for 4547-1 (against the instructions) and the three-hole
version for 4549-1 and later, they used the one-hole version for 4547-1 too.
Then as most used copies of 4549-1 in Europe come with 3-hole versions, we should
also assume that their owners replaced the original 1-hole one with the 3-hole
version.
Here are two used copies. I also bought one copy from Germany coming with 3-hole
variant
https://picclick.de/Lego-System-4549-Container-Double-Stack-Road-%C2%B4n%C2%B4-Rail-153552552889.html
https://picclick.de/LEGO-Containertransportwagen-Container-Double-Stack-Set-Nr-4549-183867635295.html
It is possible to find an opened new copy of 4549-1 coming with 3-hole version,
sometime in the future but then, how can we be sure that this piece would be
original to the set as it does not come in a sealed bag?
I have ordered a light tent but I am not sure I have the one-hole version. I
need to check my second copy of 4549-1. But I can add it to the catalog and then,
you can decide on how to proceed with the inventory of this set.
Reza

I have just submitted 2972b to the catalog for the one hole variant so that we
can get rid of the undetermined 2972 in inventories. Based on your findings it
seems unlikely that several sellers of used sets would have somehow found a rare
2972a to include in their used sets, so I believe that it came in early production
runs of 4549. The fact that instructions and box art also show 2972a supports
the theory that 2972a was the first version and since both this and 4547 were
released in the same year it would have come in early productions runs of both
sets while 2972b would have come in later production runs of both sets.

I don't have any evidence for them coming in later releases.

I gave a reliable evidence. My other inv. change requests were accepted using
the same evidence. But that one was rejected with no comment. I would like to

Reza -
What about the clip lights? I see the thick-ring versions in the photos here:
http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=558274
The other Inventory Admin, Paul, is also the one who added the alternates to
the inventory back in 2011.
Did this set ever come with the thin-ring versions?
Cheers,
Randy
|
Randy,
For keeping early variant or removing them, there is no good solution but I have
my own philosophy
We know the later variations of clips and hinges came in early 1985. I have checked
light gray hinges since long time ago and I am convinced that we should remove
them for this set. Well, if one day somebody gives an evidence, we can add them
back but I don't think this would happen.
I didn't request to remove thin-clips for this set (from 1986) because I
have not checked enough number of used/new copies in the American market. I don't
know if those copies of 7823 sold in USA were imported directly from Denmark
or were produced in USA. This is a complicated case. My doubts raised as I have
seen few neat copies of American 6393 (with American box in the market of USA)
coming with thin clips in most colors (there come with 6393 in four colors) As
I have seen few used copies of 6393 coming with rare thin clips, I believe they
were still available in 1987. Admin Russel removed thin-clips from 6393 in Nov.
2018
https://www.bricklink.com/catalogInvChangeItem.asp?itemType=S&itemNo=6393-1&viewDate=Y&viewStatus=1
Once I have some more data, I come back to 6393. Unfortunately, I don't think
we find any new 6393, let alone an early release!
Now, coming back to 7823, I think it is better I check some more used/new copies
in the market of USA before requesting to remove them. I will come back to this
in few months.
Cheers,
Reza

I don't know if 4081a was ever included in this set, but if you look at the
instructions you'll see that they were at least used when the set was designed
because they are shown in the instructions. And if you build this set according
to the instructions with 4081b the thick rings will block the rear wheels of
the truck. Of course this does not prove that the set actually came with 4081b
and it is not the only set where 4081b was included even though it interferes
with the functionality of the set.
I'll leave the 4081a in the set for now, but we can get back to that once
you have had time to check more sets.

Some further information about my set: it is the redesigned version with the
plates with pins. The 2x2 bricks were 3003old. The set must originally be from
Italy because there was a sticker on the box with Italian text that I'm assuming
says that it's not suitable for children under 36 months.
The following catalogs were included in the box:

- The yellow jumper can be seen in two models.
- Two yellow 1*1 plate can be seen on the ship (left-side top) Sorry for the
quality of the image. The yellow plates 4*1, 1*1 and 10*1 are used on each side
of the ship, on the edge.
- Two 1*2 red tiles are used on various red or yellow motorcycles.
- It is likely that on the bottom left-side of model, three yellow 1*1 plates
are used. But the box art is not clear.
I believe three yellow plates 1*1 came with this set. Whether the third is extra
is used on an alternate model is not clear.
|
|
Based on your photos the presence of the red 3069b and yellow 3794a is clearly
visible in the alternate models. Can you post photos showing a bit more detail
of the alternate models where the yellow 3024 are used? It would probably be
a bit better visible if you posted close-ups of just those models instead of
the whole back of the box.

Still difficult to see on those photos. Unfortunately those box art photos were
not always very clear. But I think I recognize the 1x1 plates. So I'll accept

* Add 4 Part 3242 Light Gray Train, Track 12V Conducting Rail Straight
|
The source is from a NIB set sold on Ebay in Italy.
I have also seen used lots containing 4.5v sets+7822 and 4 extra conducting rails.
This set is advertised 4.5v in catalogs 1980-2 but TLG included 4 straight conducting
rails too so at the end, it was both working with either 4.5v or 12v layout.
|
I'm not convinced that this set would originally come with conducting rails.
It seems more likely that this seller would throw those rails in with the set
as a service for buyers who might want to use it with a 12V layout. I don't
remember my own set coming with these rails.
|
Earlier I wrote that I didn't remember my own set coming with conducting
rails. But I guess my memory was not perfect about this set that I got many years
ago. I was just cleaning up some drawers and at the bottom of one of them I found
some old notes that I thought I had lost.
In those notes I wrote some interesting and/or unexpected things I found in sealed
sets. One of those notes states that I found conducting rails in this set. So
I guess we now have another source of conducting rails in a NIB set.
Based on this I will accept the inventory change request, but as mentioned in
another post I will change the conducting rails to extras and I will also add
a note that these conducting rails did not come in all copies of the set.

Since I don't know anything about the blue 12V train era (This set is exactly twice my age! ) I hope someone else can help here:
|
It's a bit before my time as well
| - Should the wheels with gray rims be alternate parts?
|
If I remember correctly someone did write something about the transition between
the two colors of rims in another change request for a set from that time. Probably
Reza because he knows a lot about these older train sets. I'll have to look
it up when I have some more time.
|
Maybe I know a lot, but I still feel I know nothing about these old sets
Based on what I know so far, TLG started to produce trainrims in black since
1969. I won't be surprised if I learn they produced them in 1968. -Maybe
they first used all their light gray ones in 1968 and then used the black ones
in mid 1968.) But based on my current knowledge and evidence, they produced them
since 1969 and I think we can remove the light gray ones for these set and any
other set released between 1969-79.
I have photos of three sealed copies, all coming with black trainrims. See photos
attached. We can read the production dates of motors as follows:
28 7 69 (source: Bluxe) See photos 2 and 3
23 2 69 (source: Facebook) See photo 4
25 7 69 (source: from a Lego collector) See photo 5
16 2 70 (source: Catawiki) See photo 1
This gives a good evidence that we can remove light gray trainrims (but there
is still a tiny chance that the very early releases came with light gray ones.)
|
| - What is the wire with two connectors for? The photo shows it with 1x bb0236ac01 and 1x bb0093ac01, but the catalog image shows 2x bb0236ac01.
|
|
I think the catalog image is taken from a Lego catalog. It shows also 1x bb0236ac01
and 1x bb0093ac01 but in the image we can only see bb0093ac01
|p=bb0236ac01]
from its side so this is why it looks like bb0236ac01
|
Probably for when you use the motor to build a car instead of a train. You can
see that the set includes the necessary wheels and tires for that. The train
track contact base is used to connect to the conducting rails when you use the
motor for a train, but when using it is a car you'd need a wire with two
connectors to connect it to the transformer. It appears that transformer 740
needs the bb093ac01 connector while the bb0236ac01 connector would go in the
motor.
|
Correct. This is what TLG did with other Lego train accessories or even Lego
trains. See for example the inventory of
| Based on that it seems that the wire with two different connectors should be
correct for this set, but I am not familiar enough with the sets from that time
to be completely confident about that. Especially when the box art shows a wire
with two connectors bb0236ac01. So I would appreciate input from people more
familiar with these sets from the late 1960s.
|
Yes, it is correct. This set comes with two wire/connector assemblies. These
changes can be accepted but based on the photos that I have on my PC, it seems
the length of the two wires are different. Moreover, then length of wires, the
name of the items and maybe even the item should be changed! We still need to
wait until the catalog admins can have free time for the project map for wires
then we can make better changes for these sets.
|
Thanks for your reply. Based on your research we can remove the wheels with light
gray rims from this inventory. They can always be added again if someone finds
evidence that they were included in some very early releases of this set.

Two of them are in the inventories of the droid minifigures tlm088 and tlm089.
That means that there are already ten in the inventory of this set (use the break

I got a used copy in very good condition. Even the sprues are there. These parts were extra in the box. I found almost all of them on the models on back of the box.

|
|

The evidence will be uploaded soon.
|
Did you forget to upload the evidence?
|
Hi Paul,
No I didn't forget. There are so many inv. changes, catalog changes, adding
items,...that I have plans to submit, take photos, upload them to my PC, and
then, upload them on BL. The only way I can handle all these is to do them step
by step, as my time allows me.
This NIB copy that I purchased should be from 1988 since the box is the first
version (1986-8) and the straight conducting rails don't have holes and have
reinforcements under their notches (1988-90).
I have never seen light gray hinges with solid stud with this set. I even have
one used copy that I bought from the first owner and was an early release too.
The (light gray) hinges with hollow studs were produced since very early 1985
https://www.bricklink.com/messageThread.asp?ID=235359
So I think we should remove them from this set. If we find a reliable source
that they were used for this set, then they should come back, but I doubt.
The length of the wire in this set
is 76cm.
|
Sorry it took me a while to get back to this request. My own set was in a location
that was a bit inconvenient to reach. I was planning to reorganize a bit here
so was planning to use that opportunity to check my set. But it took longer than
I expected to finally get around to that.
I can confirm that my set has the 3002old and 3003old. Also the 3242c and 4081b.
I had already added 4081b in blue as alternate long ago. I guess at that time
I forgot to add it in red because someone else added it later. But my set has
4081b in both colors.
For the solid stud hinges it seems very likely that they never came in this set.
The only other sets with them in light gray are from 1983 and none of the sets
from 1985 have them in their inventories so it seems unlikely that they would
suddenly show up again in 1986. So I think they can be removed.

I bought this set with box and everything from Germany few months ago. I can
say the parts are original. Some are yellowed. And yes, all the light gray round
bricks were solid stud. Did the previous owner or owners replaced all 52 open
stud 3062b with solid studs 3062a? All the 52 copies of them? I don't know
if the submitter have an original copy of this set coming with light gray 3062a,
but I believe this inventory change request is correct.
|
Mine, like yours, was bought recently with box etc and - for the most part -
the correct vintage of parts. Also, so far as I am aware, 3062b didn't appear
before 1979, so while it's possible this set was packed with 3062b at some
point during its lifetime, it would originally have had 3062a.
|
Based on year of release I believe that this set must have originally come with
3062a. And it is a very rare part in light gray, so I doubt that someone would
have switched them all out in both of your used sets. It is possible that later
releases of the set came with 3062b, but we can always add it back later as an
alternate if that is the case. For now I am inclined to accept this request,
but I'll leave it open for a day or two to give other owners of this set
the chance to tell us if they found 3062b in their sets.

Thanks for that link. So now we know that both variants came in this set. I'll

before 1979, so while it's possible this set was packed with 3062b at some
point during its lifetime, it would originally have had 3062a.
|

The box art clearly shows that one light gray
and one light gray
are used on the roof. I believe this is an evidence that the inventory of this
set was changed before the first production run as the box art shows it.
By the way, my neat used copy also confirm this. I think this inventory request
should be accepted and it is correct. If one day, somebody finds a reliable evidence
that this set came with the light gray plates shown in the instructions, then
we can switch this back (but I doubt)
If you need a high quality photo of the box, let me know.
|
I have looked at photos of used sets and did not find any with the 6x14 plate.
At least none where the photo quality was good enough to recognize the individual
plates. Some photos where very low quality so I could not determine which plates
were used in those sets.

What is your source for this request? Based on set images and instructions the
roof is made of one plate 6 x 12 and two plates 2 x 3.
This would also mean that plate 6 x 14 would have been produced a year earlier
than the oldest set that currently has it. I would like to see some convincing
evidence before I accept this request.

| Colours are only numbers though. So you’ll need to import the colour table (same
form) to cross the tables.
|
Okay, this is obviously beyond my skill set. Anyone like to show me, preferably
via screen shots, exactly how to do this. Please.
|
For the first part:
1. Download the set inventory as Tab-delimited (should give you a “S-NNN-1.txt”
file).
2. Open Excel, open the file from Excel (or drag and drop it), it should give
you an import dialog where you can tweek things (delimiters, how numbers are
read, locale…) but you shouldn’t have to change anything because the tab-delimited
file is pretty simple/default.
You should now have the inventory in a table.
If you want to get colour names instead (or rather, besides) their code, well,
my Excel is a bit rusty (I use LibreOffice now) but this should do it:
1. Download the colour table as Tab-delimited (should give you a “colors.txt”
file).
2. Open it from Excel like above.
Note that it should be possible to cross/match from an external file but I’m
not sure how, so we’ll do it in one file, the one we have the inventory in.
3. Select and copy the first two columns (others are not needed).
4. Go back to the inventory file.
5. Create a new page (it’s cleaner) and paste the colours names and IDs.
6. Add a column in the inventory for the colour names.
7. Use the VLOOKUP function for the first item: “=VLOOKUP( E3 ; region ; 2 )”.
“E3” should be the cell with the colour code for the first item (line 3). “region”
is the whole region with the colours in the second page (e.g. “$Page2.A3.B217”).
“2” is because we want the value in the 2nd column, the colour name.
8. Add a $ before every value in the region (e.g. if it was “$Page2.A3.B217”,
make it “$Page2.$A$3.$B$217”). That will block the values (they won’t change
when the formula is moved or copy-pasted or dragged.
9. Apply the formula all the way down, for all the items by dragging the bottom-right
handle.
Now all the items have the colour code and names.
|
| Hope that’s clear and helping
|
It worked fine until point 7
Then I just got error messages.
|
=VLOOKUP(E3;"$Page2.$A$3.$B$217";2)that's my formula
|
Not sure if this works different in other language versions of Excel, but based
on how I work with formulas in my Dutch version of Excel I think the correct
version of that formula should be =VLOOKUP(E3;Page2!$A$3:$B$217;2;false)
The false at the end of the formula makes sure that it will only look for the
exact value in the list of colors. Otherwise it will use the nearest value if
your cell E3 has a value that's not in the list of colors.

I have fixed the entries for the paddles. The correct way to handle extras for

No. My minifig has the old head.

We don't add alternate minifigures if the only difference is the stud type
of the head. So in this case you can add ovr037a as an alternate to the set
inventory and then I will add an inventory note to say that this minifigure has
been found with both b and c type heads.

Length and width are measured in studs, but height is measured in brick heights.

There may be 4 stickers, but only 2 tiles. So quantity should be 2 for this counterpart.
|
Do we have a general rule for such a case? I thought that usually all possible
stickered parts are added as counterparts regardless how many of them can "exist"
at the same time. Since we have 4 stickers, it would be consequent to add 4 stickered
tiles.
Set 3407, for example, has 6 blank minifigs, but over 30 different stickered
minifigs. (And see also the number of stickered slopes and windows in that set.)
Or what about all those different license plate stickers which are included in
creator expert vehicles? There is usually only one tile to apply them.
Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against adding 2 instead of 4 tiles. Just
want to understand why.
Regards,
Jonas
|
In those other cases there are different stickers. In this case the stickers
are the same. So in my opinion only two should be added as counterparts in this
case.

Comments from Submitter:
There's two stickers for this on the sheet but I could only see one applied in the instructions on the last sheet so I wasn't sure if I should submit for 1 or 2 counterparts
|
Older sets often had some extra stickers on their sticker sheets. Only one telephone
is used in the instructions and the other two pieces 3040a are used in the fireplace.
So it's not like in some other sets where we can assume that stickers are
applied that are not visible in the instructions. So in this case only one piece
of 3040apb03 should be included as counterpart.

Sorry, my mistake. I had assumed that the instructions with the old type hose

that they would use the older version of the part in a later version of the set.

their box. Indeed, the same lot in which there were few space sets like 926,
a train 7715,...

The parts of this station 148-1 are in very good condition. Looks like they were
not played with. The door 33bc01 has hinge on the left. I don't know if TLG
produced and used both it depends on the set?
|
Yes, that did occur to me! So there could be several options:
- the instructions are correct, and your set was not
- the instructions are incorrect
- the set shipped with both types at different times
It was a fairly short-lived set, and IIRC that part didn't survive much longer
itself, so it could well be that the instructions don't match up with the
actual contents of the box.
If we conclude that the inventory as it is today is correct, perhaps we should
add a note to stop anyone else submitting a similar change-request?
|
Instructions don't always show the part variants that are actually included
in a set. So without other evidence I am going to reject this change request.
Many sets have been found with both types of doors and it is possible that this
is one of those sets, so 32bc01 may be added if evidence is found that it actually
came in this set.

The instructions show a small black rubber belt. Set 8720 has several rubber

From the Additional Information About Extra Items section of the Inventory
Sections: Regular, Extra, Counterpart, and Alternate help page:
https://www.bricklink.com/help.asp?helpID=1562#extraItems
Removing or Changing Extra Items - Extra parts can vary depending on when
and where a set was manufactured, meaning that some new sets may include them
and others may not. The quantity of these extra parts can also vary. Extra parts
are typically not removed or reduced in quantity unless it can be determined
that they were originally added or increased in error.
These extra parts were found in some sealed copies of this set so they will not
be
removed.

There was no way to get a sealed pic. They weren't in a bag. They were loose in the plastic sorting tray in the section that had the long technic bricks. They are not in the instructions for the primary build, but the instructions call for a K2 rubber band if you want to connect it to a motor. Go figure?
|
In my opinion one of these should be regular because it is used in the instructions
for addinng a motor to it. The other two can be added as extra. Unless Randy

Clearly a mistake was made in this inventory. Based on the change log these were
originally added as alternates for the dark bluish gray 4070 but at some point
both became regulars. That is obviously not correct so we either have to delete
these or change them back to alternates.
|
I had some more time to look at exactly what happened here. Back in those days
4070a was still a separate variant, so I thought it might have accidentally been
added as a variant in the wrong color. But a light bluish gray 4070a was added
to the inventory as alternate when there was a dark bluish gray 4070a in the
inventory. So it seems that the light bluish gray parts must have really been
in some sets.
But when 4070a was removed from inventory some mistakes were made and both colors
ended up becoming regular items in the inventory. The light bluish gray 4070
should be changed back to alternate. That means that I will reject this request
and submit a new one to chnage them to alternates.

I'd say delete them because they are only for the two colors that have an
odd number in the regular inventory. So they are clearly the parts from the sprue
that are not used. I would expect extras in all colors if they were based on
a later set that did not have the sprues. And also some other parts that normally
have extras included like the lever.
According to our policy extra items are not necessarily included all the time,
so they can be added as extras if it is confirmed that they are included in sets
that don't have the sprues.

Is the sticker applied correctly on 88930pb099L? It looks like it's upside
down in the image.

Item No. shows as 3794; when searching with LEGO Element ID (6066097), it should be 15573.

Lego replacement parts site does not always show the correct part variants that
are actually founf in sets. We only accept change request for part variants based
on parts found in sealed sets. That means that this request will be rejected.
Were your other two requests based on sealed set contents or are they also only
based on parts lists in instructions and/or Lego replacement parts site? I'll
leave those open for now.

The part is two times with quantity 1 in the partslist.

According to the instructions one is light bluish gray and the other is dark
bluish gray. That means that the current inventory is correct and this request
will be rejected.

I guess people don't look at the inventories for these kinds of parts very
often. This inventory has been wrong for at least 9 years.

To confirm the inventory, you can find an unboxing there:

If I remember correctly, the reason for "extra" parts is because the set
is the same as which is composed of
Some black parts are sort of 'extra' (from 3745-1) because this set is
used to build other locomotives
For example:

Thanks for the explanation. This could probably use an inventory note to explain
the reason for these extra parts. But I'll leave that until Randy is back
from holiday because he seems to be a bit more familiar with this set than I
am.

building a extremely well preserved set with box and the numbers are as this in my set and confirmed with the instruction

I went through the instructions and as far as I can see the inventory is correct
with 15 pieces of 3003old and 17 pieces of 3001old.
|
Did you calculate the ones in the last row on the tow truck?
|
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I had not noticed that those were
two pieces of 3003old and not one of 3001old. I had already rejected your original
request. Can you please submit this request again?

I did a quick look through the instructions and you are correct that those parts
don't appear anywhere in the instructions that I found on Brickset. So either
the current inventory is wrong or there are multiple versions of the instructions
for this set.

|
|
|
This is the only MISB set I have seen. I contacted the seller and asked him more
photos. He didn't know about Lego much and didn't have other train-related
staff. He was certainly not a Lego dealer, that I am sure.
We would never know if ALL copies contained these extra conducting rails.
The problem is that I cannot trust used lots at all as conducting rails are so
common and people have them. However, I attach a used lot containing only 4.5V
sets sold on Ebay in US where 12v train were not sold. We see 3 straight conducting
rails and there may be one extra (or maybe lost?).
I do have another set of photos of an NIB copy but the quality is bad and we
cannot see much.
|
I also point two things:
1) how did the seller know he had to add 4 extra conducting rails but they are
included in peeron, bricklink,...? why did he do that? I remember he did not
claim the set was complete. In the advertisement, he mentioned something like
"all bags are sealed. Not sure if complete"
2) The conducting rails have contact holes. These are produced between 1980-87.
But they came in two versions. The first version didn't have plastic reinforcements
below the notches (1980-84) but since 1985 they added extra plastic (to all types,
including straight, curved, cross, points,...). See
https://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=1078534
In the photos we can see two conducting rails don't have reinforcements (the
other two are not visible). This is also why I trusted them.
|
Ok. Maybe you are right about these. But if we add these I think they should
be added as extra parts and not regular parts. They are not shown anywhere on
the box art or instructions. That would fit the definition of extra parts.
