I've run into friends polybags that are the same way. I always try to keep
sets together for resale, but sometimes I'm shocked that its not worth it
for the tiny sets.
I also just finished a Ninjago set recently where the figure was rare-ish and
more than I wanted to pay and I found a seller who had parted a bunch of that
fig out and was able to buy him in pieces for far less than buying the assembled
fig. Its normally the reverse.

The goal of the $1 payment is to preclude new members from making false orders
and thereby avoid time wasted on pulling order items, attaining packing supplies,
calculating shipping, etc.
Perhaps there is also a benefit with regard to new sellers. Not sure.
I recognize there will be process, payment, and accounting challenges for BrickLink
administrators, along with maybe an undesired initial action to become a member,
however this proposal would screen out false buyers, and benefit the integrity
and positive experiences of the entire new member, buyer, and seller community
-- which for my part is a key reason I'm here.
|
I have said it before, the best way to weed out undesirable buyers and sellers
is to require 10 positive feedbacks before they are allowed to sell or buy. It
sounds so simple.

more. Blue, white, yellow and grey's turn all sorts of weird shades over
time. It's inevitable... I don't understand why we always talk about
brittle blue but not brittle yellow? If the part is not the right shade i'd
just throw it in the trash.
|
The term brittle blue is not just a discoloration. It is a bad quality plastic
that breaks easily. Other color bricks may discolor, but they don't just
break apart like the brittle blue pieces.
|
Is there a "brittle brown"? I was building a set from the early 2000's and
I had multiple pieces explode in my hand while building. I'd never seen anything
like it. Set looked in good condition otherwise.

But how can one know if it is from 1986 or 1987 or... unless if the original
catalog is still in the box. (TLG always put a catalog inside all the boxes)

Well I just checked and its catalog 102917 which is from the early 90's so
now I'm even more confused!

Could you please attach photos of front box and instructions?
Did you also check those parts?

computer/phone is acting up, I can email you the photos directly if you'd
like, but I can't seem to get them off my phone to post here.
As far as the parts go, forgive me but these inventory threads read like braille

be happy to. Otherwise I've read it several times and I'm still lost.

I end up just doing "lego" + "set number" + "bricklink" in google to just skip

The easy way is to ask yourself, "where did these come from?" The light grey
and old brown are only from "vintage" sets. So if you aren't seeing really
early 2000's sets or older, or its from new sets you can assume its the modern
colors.
