126 Parts, 2010
Sets: LEGO Brand: LEGO Brand Store: Grand Opening

* Add 18 Part 54200 Red Slope 30 1 x 1 x 2/3
* Add 12 Part 3023 Light Bluish Gray Plate 1 x 2
* Add 4 Part 3023 Dark Bluish Gray Plate 1 x 2
* Add 2 Part 3024 Dark Bluish Gray Plate 1 x 1
* Change 9 Part Red {3044b Slope 45 2 x 1 Double - with Inside Bar to 3044c Slope 45 2 x 1 Double - with Bottom Stud Holder}
* Change {9 to 6} Part Red {3044b Slope 45 2 x 1 Double - with Inside Bar to 3044c Slope 45 2 x 1 Double - with Bottom Stud Holder}

Comments from Submitter:
The summary is from a friends set. Now we have the 131 parts. Don`t know if I give everything correct. Theses are the changes:
12x 3023 Light Bluish Gray Plate 1 x 2
4x 3023 Dark Bluish Gray Plate 1 x 2
2x 3024 Dark Bluish Gray Plate 1 x 1
6x 3044c Slope 45 2 x 1 Double - with Bottom Stud Holder
18x 54200 Red Slope 30 1 x 1 x 2/3

As I stated in the last thread where you were requesting these changes:

https://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=1135301

"As stated above, I will definitely need to see the instructions of the set and
photos of the part variants before I can proceed with any more changes at this
point. Only then can I be sure of completeness and accuracy."

If this is a friends set, then you should be able to ask your friend to take
photos or make scans of all the instruction steps and part variants for me to
look into this. The images can be sent to inv@bricklink.com

As I also stated in the last thread:

"I think I have come to the conclusion that I will not be making any more changes
to this set unless I have definitive photos and scans of everything involved."

Thanks,
Randy

This set was in market for 7 years, between 1969-75. Let's assume it came
with the light-gray rims for the first 6 months and came with the blue battery

I have only found photos of two new copies of it. So it is very hard to find
a sealed copy of this set coming with these variation of parts.
Also, most of the trainrims are already perished, so most of those we see in
photos, black or light gray, may be replicas (non-original).
There are four listings on BL of this set, coming blue battery box and blue motor.
I have seen many others (all used):

I personally don't doubt that the blue battery box and blue motor did come
with this set.

All right, you have convinced me.

I will keep the blues and grays as the Regular Items since the set probably first
came with those even if we don't know for sure. Eventually, everything changed
to black, so those will be the alternates.

Cheers,
Randy

It's all done. Take a look over it to make sure everything looks OK.

Comments from Submitter:
Are you suore that extra item is 3705b (threaded) and not a 3705 (normal)? In the instruction of the kit neve use the 3705b item

Nope, not sure at all!

This part was added as an extra in 2010. Unfortunately, the Inventory Change
Requests from back then were not saved indefinitely in the forums like they are
today, so we have no information as to why this change was asked for or approved.

I honestly can't see a reason for it being in there.

Our guidelines for Extras in an inventory state:

Removing or Changing Extra Items - Extra parts can vary depending on when
and where a set was manufactured, meaning that some new sets may include them
and others may not. The quantity of these extra parts can also vary. Extra parts
are typically not removed or reduced in quantity unless it can be determined
that they were originally added or increased in error.

So, to make a decision concerning whether to remove this as an extra part, I
have to somehow determine if it was originally added in error. That is going
to be tough to do after nine years removed from the actual change being made.

Any ideas on how you would proceed with this, Paul?

Cheers,
Randy

Part 3705b first appeared as a regular part in sets in 1986 according to our
catalog. So it seems strange that it appeared as an extra part in another set
two years before that. Based on that it seems that a mistake was probably made
when adding this extra.

But wouldn't this set have been produced at least for a few years, possibly
overlapping the introduction of part 3705b?

The only way to be sure would be to ask the person who added it in the first
place. But even they might not remember it after so many years.

I guess we could try that route.

Hi

No... that was also my first thought (my cancelled post) but have a look at the
instructions and all 5 are used as regular axle.

Stefaan

Yeah, I already went over the instructions yesterday. I know it isn't used
in the set in any way, but it may have popped into a random set after a few years
on the market. In any case, I believe it was most likely a LEGO packaging error
if it was found in a set. I am definitely leaning towards removing it from the
inventory.

Cheers,
Randy

I have decided to remove this extra from the inventory. I just can't think
of anything or find anything that makes sense except for it possibly being a
packaging error.

Request approved.

Cheers,
Randy

4883-1 (Inv) Gear Grinders
273 Parts, 2005
Sets: Designer Sets: Traffic

"gear grinders" creator set, 4 red pieces ref 45677 are needed on
the paper instruction (see my photo). And 5 are needed on the Bricklink Inventory.
As it is a creator, with different building options, the exact needed number
is not easy to know. All i know is that 4 of these red pieces are enough to build
each of the suggested buiding options in the instruction. But separately, one
after the other. I don't know if TLG designed this set as being able to build
several "gear grinders" at the same time ? ... Another member owns this set ?
Good sunday to all of you !!

Brickset (= more or less LEGO) agrees with BrickLink to reach 273 pieces in total,
so, unless another part is wrong, it looks correct.

Note that the 5th part was changed to extra on February, 16th 2012, and changed
back to regular on the 19th.
Unfortunately, we can’t see the messages accompanying the changes anymore

https://www.bricklink.com/catalogInvChangeItem.asp?itemType=S&itemNo=4883-1&viewDate=Y&viewStatus=1

Those movment were I think due to parts count on box which shows 273 part. So
current parts count in inventory match.

Sealed set contents that I have found show that the set indeed came with five
of the part, since all three of the main models on the front cover were able
to be made at the same time. Those three models require five of the part. Therefore,
the inventory is correct. However, I will add a note that the instruction manual
has a mistake in the parts list.

Randy

IT is hard to find sealed copies of these old sets. I found out that the light
gray rims were still used in 1969 (at least), the year in which this set and
721-1 were released. See
https://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=1086773

The instructions and the box of this set shows the light gray rims. I also found
some used sets coming with light gray rims AND blue battery wagon/blue motor.
I don't know why the light gray rims were never added to this inventory.
I attach also a photo from toysspread.com

Maybe they were never added to the inventory because the light gray rims never
came in the set? I could not find any images of even used sets with light gray
rims, so I am not convinced. I found one image of a pretty good looking set that
had a blue wagon, but the train rims were still black. Where can I find these
images you are talking about? You are making your assumptions for these changes
on the box, instructions, and images of used sets that are not yours and may
have been changed, so it is not convincing enough to me to add the light gray
rims and blue battery box right away. Maybe the blue wagon, but I am not even
sure of that.

Thoughts, Paul?

Cheers,
Randy

Randy,

I did not request to add the blue battery box or the blue motor, I only requested
to change their match Ids. They are already in the inventory. but the way, the
blue battery box and motor appeared in sets from 1970:
https://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemIn.asp?P=bb06&in=S

https://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemIn.asp?P=bb45c02&in=S

I understand this, but the original inventory may be wrong. That is why I look
at everything I can find. I want to know if alternates are the right course of
action or if outright replacements of the main parts are needed in the inventory.
So far, I have not personally found an image of one of these sets with a blue
battery box or light gray rims. You said that you had found some. I asked you
where I could find those images. You have yet to answer that question. I do not
trust anything from the ToysPeriod website, because they steal all of their content
from other sources. In other words, I will not trust that the one image from
that site that shows the blue battery box and light gray rims has all of its
original parts. The image may be from a source that used the box images to complete
the set, but all of the actual parts in the set may have never been those pictured
on the box.

When inventory admins receive a request, they want to see evidence to approve
it. Concerning the light gray rims, we have already two sets from 1969 to consider:
1) Should the light-gray rims be removed from 721-1?
2) Should they be added to 103-1?

The first question is the opposite of the second question because the light-gray
rims are already in the inventory of 721-1 but they are not in the inventory
of 103-1.
Were there any evidence that they came with 721-1? (I don't think so)
So everything is based on how the inventory were created in the early days of
Bricklink. The set 721-1 was inventoried to have light-gray rims and then the
black ones were added. But 103-1 was inventoried to have the black ones in 2006
https://www.bricklink.com/catalogInvChangeItem.asp?itemType=S&itemNo=103-1&viewDate=Y&viewStatus=1

by the way, based on the evidence of set 138-1, we know that the light gray rims
were still used back in 1969.
I know it is not easy to make a decision, but I prefer consistency in lack of
evidence
By the way, the first photo I uploaded shows the light gray rims, taken from
the website toysperiod.com

Reza

You should be able to use the change function now. It was fixed a few days ago.

I thought it would not be deployed to the live site until next week. Was it already
pushed to the live site, then?

Cheers,
Randy

OK now. Fred is trying to have these parts merged, and you are trying to change

Based on your explaination, the parts 3230 and 3229 are undetermined variation.
Currently they appear in the inventory of one set so I am requesting to remove
them and add 3230a and 3229a. By the way, blue 3229b or 3230b do not exist so
no evidence is needed for this request
I guess after, we can mark 3229 and 3230 for deletion?

Thank you, Reza. I had not realized there were 'b' versions in the catalog.
Fred's request to merge the blank entries with the 'a' entries confused
me. The blank entries really need to be marked for deletion instead of merged.

Randy

Hi Randy,

The parts are the same.
I do it wrong to ask a merging?
Then INV of 157-1 will automatically have 3230a and 3229a nope?

-Fred

I guess that depends on which way they are merged, towards the 'a' entries
or towards the blank entries.

Actually, it looks like 3229 and 3230 should be marked for deletion and not merged.

  Hi Paul!
I don't have any source for this suggestion. So you won't approve it.
But it's so frustrating. I order brick with solid pattern, and receive stencil
pattern, invariably. It's so difficult to understand how you can be so sure
that set 310 could not contain the brick with stencil pattern instead of solid
pattern? They are so similar and most sellers on BL don't know the difference.
How can you be sure that those people in the factory in the 1960s who amassed
the parts to put in the set did not sometimes put in the brick with stencil pattern?

What you are failing to understand is that we aren't sure either. We would
be more than happy to add it as an alternate part or change the part in the inventory
completely if we had some convincing evidence to make the change. However, we
don't have that, so the inventory remains unchanged until someone studies
the set enough to figure it out. The inventories are not guaranteed to be 100%
accurate. In fact, at the bottom of every inventory page is a disclaimer which
states:

"BrickLink does not guarantee an inventory to be correct and therefore an inventory
should be only used as a guide."

My life would be more happy if the stencil pattern would be listed as alternate
part. If it's listed as alternate who would be hurt by this?

Vintage collectors who would think that it is OK to have that alternate part
in the set when it may have never come in the set. As soon as BrickLink lists
something as an alternate in a set, then everyone using that inventory will think
that the set came with that part at some time. However, what if that set *never*
came with that part? Then by adding the alternate, you have made the inventory
*less* accurate. This is why we require convincing evidence to change the inventories.
We are not going to just add and remove parts on a whim and decrease overall
inventory accuracy.

  These inventory
lists on BL determine so much here on BL, and I would hope that BL administrators
could consider the possibility.

We do. If you have convincing evidence, we will be more than happy to look into
the situation. If you don't, then we won't.

And this is also the case for other parts, for
example 1x4 brick car grilles, where the sellers here on BL do the same thing.
They send surface print when I order embossed print, and when I order embossed
print, they send surface print.
I'm getting so tired of this. Lego is supposed to be fun. Why can't the
administrators on BL list more alternates in the inventory lists? For example
if a brick is listed as surface print, cannot the embossed print always be listed
as alternate, and vice versa?

You are getting the BrickLink catalog and inventory admin roles confused with
the roles of the sellers you are buying from.

The functions of the BrickLink catalog and inventory admins are to maintain the
BrickLink catalog and inventories to the best of our abilities using what knowledge
we have and what knowledge we can obtain. We all take our roles seriously, and
we do not make changes to things without studying them and making informed decisions.
We try to make things as accurate as possible when it comes to the BrickLink
catalog and inventories. Adding alternates willy-nilly is *not* how the system
works.

What you are complaining about is the inability of your sellers to list things
under the appropriate catalog entries. That is not the fault of the BrickLink
volunteer admins. That is the fault of the sellers, and you need to take your
complaints up with those you purchase from for sending items that do not match
what you ordered. Also, if you are concerned about receiving specific variants
of certain parts that are not distinguished in the BrickLink catalog, the onus
is on you to send a note to the sellers ahead of time asking if they have the
version you seek or not. I do this when I make purchases here, and I am sure
that many others do, also.

Cheers,
Randy

  Thanks for your answer!

No problem! I am happy to help a fellow BrickLinker understand the ins and outs
of how things work around here.

I'm a buyer on BL, so when I look at the inventory list for, for example
set 335-2, I see 1 entry for 445 yellow door 1x3x4 Left. So this is an "undetermined"
entry and encompasses door 445a? How am I supposed to know this?

This is how part variations have always been handled on BrickLink. Each standard
part entry is basically a placeholder for all variations of that part that have
ever been made. Until someone finds it important enough to split a part entry
into specific versions for specific variants of a part, the original entry remains
a "catch-all" entry. So for example, in this case, someone noticed that the original
entry for 445 contained two different variants of the part. They found it important
enough to add the thin-handled version to the catalog as a specific variant.
What they should have done at the same time was add the thick-handled version,
also, but they did not. As a result, the original entry for 445 needs to remain
to cover the thick-handled version of the part. When a thick-handled version
gets added to the catalog as 445b, then the process can be moved along to get
the part entry for 445 removed.

I hesitate to submit "catalog entries for the thick-handled versions of the doors",
as you suggest. This will have commercial repercussions and some people who have
painstakingly amassed the set with original parts for sale on BL suddenly have
to find the type of door which you decide to list as the correct entry, if they
have the other type of door in their set for sale. I don't understand why
this problem cannot be solved by listing both type of doors in all the sets with
these types of doors, one type as alternative.

You have no need to worry. Like I stated above, this is the way things have always
been handled on BrickLink. The set inventories are not guaranteed to be 100%
correct, but the inventories do get more correct and more specific over time
as people contribute to growing the body of knowledge of the history of LEGO.

What is nice about splitting entries into specific variants over time as they
are found is that those who want a set from a certain era to contain the correct
vintage parts have a chance to get the correct parts. For example, in the one
set where we added the thin-handled doors, I am pretty certain that the thick-handled
versions of the doors never appeared in that set. Is it OK for the inventory
to show that the thick-handled versions of the door could have been in the set
when they actually never were? I personally don't think so. I think the inventory
for this set, as well as all of the other inventories containing these doors
should show the correct vintage parts. The only way to accomplish that is to
get specific entries for both variants into the catalog and then let users over
time make the necessary changes to the inventories (with proof) to get them corrected.
This process takes time, but it could be sped up if someone were to get the thick-handled
versions of the doors added to the catalog as separate entries.

Could I also ask here for my other message on suggestions, about part 3009p01.
Is this part also an undetermined entry and encompasses 3009p01e? Because I have
ordered 3009p01 from 6 sellers on BL, and they have all sent me 3009p01e. And
part 3009p01e is not listed in any inventory.

I have not looked into this one. If it was posted as a Suggestion, also, then
I didn't see it.

For me as a buyer on BL it is difficult to understand that all these doors with
thin handle and part 3009p01, and other parts as well, are so plentiful on the
market here on BL, but do not appear in any set (except 341).

Like I stated in the last message, the thin-handled versions were only added
as separate entries a little over a year ago. Therefore, the majority of the
doors listed on BrickLink would still be listed under the original entries. Because
of that, you can get any versions of the doors when you order using those original
entries.

The reason that the thin-handled versions are not in more inventories is because
the research has not been done since they were added to the catalog to determine
what inventories they should be placed in besides the one where they have been.
It takes a lot of time and patience to study these old sets, so changes to the
inventories are very slow to happen and require convincing proof. We don't
just add alternates and variants to sets unless those variants were actually
known with a large amount of confidence to have actually come in a set. You have
to remember that the catalog and inventory admins are just volunteers who do
not have unlimited time to study every inventory for complete accuracy and rely
a lot on the knowledge and help of others. Unfortunately, there are not enough
people out there with knowledge of these old sets to get things changed quickly.

Cheers,
Randy

You have not yet responded to my question on all of your other pending inventory
change requests, but I have the same one here.

Could you please let me know what your source is for making this request?

Thanks,
Randy

Hi Randy!
Did you read my message in Suggestions posted on April 21?

I did now.

  There's something
wrong if BL is overflowing with all these utility doors with thin handle, but
those doors only appear in the inventory of one set (341-1).

Firstly, the doors with thin handle were only added to the BrickLink catalog
about one year ago. Therefore, until that point, there were only the original
entries for both versions of the doors (basically "undetermined" entries) as
they had not been separately recognized yet. Sellers could, in effect, only list
both versions of the doors under the original entries that were available.

Secondly, the doors with thick handle have not been added separately to the catalog
yet, so the original door entries are still "undetermined" entries and can contain
both versions of the doors. Sellers that have realized there are thin-handled
entries for the doors can choose to list their doors using those entries, but
they don't have to at this point because the original entries have not yet
been marked for deletion. Since the original entries have not been marked for
deletion, all of the relevant inventories that contain these entries are still
basically correct.

Thirdly, the reason the thin-handled doors only appear in one inventory is because
I researched that one set when you made a past Inventory Change Request and found
convincing evidence that the thin-handled doors had appeared in that set. I would
not have made the change without finding convincing proof, and I would not have
just referred to the box images or instructions for such a decision. At this
point, I do not have the time to go and research all of the other sets that you
are asking to make changes to.

Why does nobody answer my suggestion posted on April 21?

The "Suggestions" topic is for posting things that you believe the BrickLink
development team should look into. It is not for posting things that deal with
the BrickLink catalog and BrickLink inventories. There are separate topics for
those that are monitored by the volunteer catalog and inventories administrators.

If you look at the boxes
of all the sets I have made inv. change requests to, plus the instructions, I
think it's pretty clear that you see doors with thin handle. Don't you?

We do not make changes to inventories based on just set images or set instructions.

For set 088-1 one could look at the big leaflet accompanying the set, there you
see doors with thin handle.

I only suggest the doors with thin handle as an alternate, so there should be
no commercial repercussions for sellers or buyers having amassed the parts for
these sets and looking for doors with open handle.

As stated above, sellers are free to list both versions of the doors under the
current entries because they are "undetermined" entries and do not represent
a specific variant of the part. If sellers want to use the thin-handled door
entries to list that specific version, then they are free to do so at this time,
but they are not currently required to. Once thick-handled entries have been
added to the BrickLink catalog and the original entries have been marked for
deletion, then sellers will be forced to choose which variant they need to list
under. Maybe you would be so inclined to submit catalog entries for the thick-handled
versions of the doors to get the process moving along more quickly?

So my source is instructions and box covers for all the other sets, and the leaflet
for set 088.
Yours truly

If you do not have any proof besides instructions and box covers for all of these
sets, then I cannot accept any of them at this time. As stated before, since
all of the inventories currently contain "undetermined" entries, all of the inventories
are basically correct.

Please let me know if you have any further questions.

Cheers,
Randy

1234 Parts, 11 Minifigures, 2010
Sets: Harry Potter

* Change 9 Part Dark Bluish Gray {3794 Plate, Modified 1 x 2 with 1 Stud (Jumper) (Undetermined Type) to 3794a Plate, Modified 1 x 2 with 1 Stud without Groove (Jumper)}

Comments from Submitter:
From part-out.
If there are 3794b as alternates, it makes no sense to have 3794's as regular.

Could you shed some light on the other undetermined parts in the set?

Part No: 44567 Name: Hinge Plate 1 x 2 Locking with 1 Finger on Side (Undetermined Type)

  FYI -

Just came across a bunch of these parts in color coral:

Part No: 27507 Name: Tile, Round Corner 4 x 4 Macaroni Wide
*
27507 Tile, Round Corner 4 x 4 Macaroni Wide
Parts: Tile, Round
It looks like there are two distinct shades. One exactly matches coral color
for this part we have:

Part No: 41740 Name: Plate, Modified 1 x 4 with 2 Studs with Groove
*
41740 Plate, Modified 1 x 4 with 2 Studs with Groove
Parts: Plate, Modified
The other one is lighter - less saturated. TLG calls the new color "vibrant coral".
The lighter shade could almost be called "regular coral". Or of course another
instance of bad quality control.

I can see if I can make a pic later.

Niek.

Coral: What an unfortunate name for a colour. If there's one thing in the
world that can have every colour imaginable... it's coral. But apparently
that's just me, because Google tells me it's a thing. I'd go for
salmon or something like that.

The way things are going, the color Coral will be indistinguishable from the
color White in the not so distant future.

Just opened a Dewey sealed CMF and it included 2 slingshots. Assuming this should be added as an extra (as per the official LEGO pictures) and not added as a Regular item.

I confirm. This was my oversight.

This dragon came assembled in other sets? At least, the inventory of few sets
that I checked show this.

Thanks for pointing that out. These dragons have not been standardized yet to
the new inventory guidelines. I have added it to my list of things to do. They
will all be Counterparts soon.

No offense Reza, but I don't see a complete dragon in any of those images.

Sets: LEGO Brand: LEGO Brand Store: Grand Opening

* Change {9 to 6} Part Red {3044b Slope 45 2 x 1 Double - with Inside Bar to 3044c Slope 45 2 x 1 Double - with Bottom Stud Holder}

Thanks,
Randy

You cannot add plain parts to the Counterparts section of an inventory in place
of stickered parts that are currently missing from the BrickLink catalog.

The correct procedure to follow is:

(1) Add the stickered parts to the BrickLink catalog:
https://www.bricklink.com/wantedCatalog.asp?catType=P

Help on adding items to the BrickLink catalog:
https://www.bricklink.com/help.asp?helpID=71

(2) Add images to the BrickLink catalog for the stickered parts:
https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogImageAdd.page?itemType=P

Help on adding images to the BrickLink catalog:
https://www.bricklink.com/help.asp?helpID=87

(3) Fill out an Inventory Change Request to add the stickered parts to the inventory
after they are approved by the Catalog Associate.

Cheers,
Randy

I'd leave it to the professionals Just let me know what more I can contribute
with.

The procedure to add a stickered Counterpart to BrickLink and a set inventory
is as follows:

(1) Add the stickered part to the BrickLink catalog:
https://www.bricklink.com/wantedCatalog.asp?catType=P

Help on adding an item to the BrickLink catalog:
https://www.bricklink.com/help.asp?helpID=71

(2) Add an image to the BrickLink catalog for the stickered part:
https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogImageAdd.page?itemType=P

Help on adding an image to the BrickLink catalog:
https://www.bricklink.com/help.asp?helpID=87

(3) Fill out an Inventory Change Request to add the stickered part to the inventory
after it is approved by the Catalog Associate:
https://www.bricklink.com/catalogInvChange.asp?itemType=S&itemNo=41068-1

Is this trans-clear part:

3754pb05 Brick 1 x 6 x 5 with White Rectangle and NBA Logo (Basketball Backboard) Pattern
Parts: Brick, Decorated
really part of

Set No: 3440 Name: NBA Jam Session Co-Pack
*
3440-1 (Inv) NBA Jam Session Co-Pack
64 Parts, 2 Minifigures, 1 Gear, 2003
Sets: Sports: Basketball
Because I have
one of this bricks but with the Backboard pattern on both sides.
It would make sense to me to have it on both sides in this set since it is designed
to play against each other and otherwise one would have to aim at a blank board.

Anyway I think the inventory should be updated and a new part be added or at
least a note added to the brick and the set that it comes in different versions.

Christian

If you add the new part to the catalog, we can get the inventories straightened
out.

Since the parts are already in the set, this request will not be accepted.

In the future, if we eventually have the ability to have an inventory that lists
all parts as they came in a new set and treats minifigs as nothing more than
other assemblies of parts, then we can revisit this.

the inventory shows, or does it have a "left" crane hook?

You tell me!

Your part has a left crane hook, so it is a different assembly that is not in
the BrickLink catalog. Please submit this part as bb72c02 with the name "String
Reel Winch 4 x 4 x 2 with Sloped Top, Metal Handle, Black Drum and Crane Arm
Complete with String and Crane Hook Left". After it is added to the catalog,
please submit an Inventory Change Request to add it as an alternate to this set.

Time to change the inventory on BL?

Could the roapmap be updated to reflect the projects currently in progress please?

Thanks in advance,

As of right now, it looks like nothing needs to be changed except for maybe a
few dates. As for the rest of the projects, they will be moved into the "Projects
In Progress" when they begin. There is not yet anything additional to move there.

I think that is a good idea. But have you seen Firefly with flames shooting
out of his jetpack and cannon yet? If not go see it.

Yes, I have, and I think it is very cool.

I really like how the "Power Effects" or whatever they call them have added a
lot of richness to the Super Heroes sets. They make them feel so much more "alive".

I thought I would build it when I bought the set, but I wound up not doing so
because who cares about Firefly? I need to figure out someone else who wears
a jetpack. Maybe I'll make my own custom superhero just to display that
majesty.

Firefly is actually one of my favorite characters to play as in the LEGO Batman
video games.

No, this does not meet the definition of a Counterpart:

This request will not be accepted.

Randy

This is very likely something so massive that we don't even want to think
about it...but a possible solution to the minifig definition problem on the road
map is to create plain and deluxe minifigs. For any minifig wearing something
on its neck, hands, or feet there could be two entries: Plain with only strictly
minifig pars and one with everything that the instructions or box shows. If
we did that then this set could have the Deluxe Ursula and an extra amulet and
then a plain Ursula and a spued amulet as an alternate. It would give those
silly dressed up Belville dolls some actual legitimacy and would make room in
the catalog for the absolutely stunning Firefly seen on the box for 76117. If
you haven't seen that guy blasting off with his jetpack and firing a killshot
from his hand cannon go see it right now.

The plan in the future is to include all minifigure parts separately in the Regular
Items section just like they came originally in the sets. To go along with this,
minifigures would become just another possible assembly from the set that can
be sold together or in parts. This project requires development of the site to
include an assemblies section in the inventories which would include minifigures
and any other items currently in the Counterparts section that are just assemblies
of other parts from the set (such as wheel/tire assemblies, hinge brick assemblies,
turntable assemblies, special assemblies, brick-built animals, etc.).

Randy

That sounds like a good plan, but it does sell Firefly a little short.

If you say so!

At the very least can you and I issue a joint resolution that this is very sad
for the sprued amulets?

I find no sadness in it. Quite to the contrary, I like that their are clear guidelines
for how things are handled for parts on sprues and it is consistent. We owe a
lot to Robert for getting all of this work started, and I and the others are

A lot of people like to sell Thor with a hammer or axe, Batman with a Batarang
and such. And all those minifigs with neck brackets attached to nothing but
their necks make sense only as a technicality to our rules. Practically any
customer would rather buy it either without the neck bracket or with whatever
was supposed to connect to it.

The definition for what is included or not in figures is something that is on
the radar of the current admin team. I had started the process when Robert was
still here, but it got put on hold after his departure. Marek has a lot to catch
up with before we can begin any new projects. There will be some changes at some
time, but not for the near future. Once we have a new set of guidelines for the
figures, some of them will be changing (such as Iron Man and Ultron minifigures
with round bricks coming out of their feet.).

Does it meet the definition of anything else? It is all alone out in a cold,
cruel world.

Yes, it does. It meets the definition of a Regular Item. However, it follows
a stipulation from that same help page above:

"Parts on Sprues - Complete sprues are included in this section unless
some parts from the sprue are used in minifigures. In that case, the parts from
the sprue that are not used in minifigures are included in this section."

This is how these parts are handled in the inventories. Until a later time when
minifigs are just considered another possible assembly from a set and all of
their parts are included separately in the Regular Items section, these parts
follow the above guideline.

Comments from Submitter:
These thick round rubberbands are in my sealed set as an alternative to the black technic wedge belt tire.

I am sorry that it has taken me a bit to get back to you concerning this request,
but thank you for bringing this to my attention.

I have been doing a lot of research about this book, and I have found that there
are a couple of large errors in the inventory which should never have been accepted.
I have reviewed at least 40-50 of these books as a sealed set over the last few
days, and I will be taking a little time to first correct the original inventory
before making any other changes.

Judging from many of these books that I have reviewed, the black belts do not
seem to be either part x89 in your request or part 2815 that was added to the
inventory in August 2017:

https://www.bricklink.com/messageThread.asp?ID=224516

What gives me confidence in this conclusion is also a prior thread attached to
a prior change request for this book:

https://www.bricklink.com/messageThread.asp?ID=176325

Thanks for your patience as I try to figure all of this out. I may have to purchase
a couple of the copies I was looking at to get the complete picture.

Cheers,
Randy

Okay, I purchased two of these books, one with the black large wheels and one
with the light bluish gray large wheels. The books have different back covers
and some different pages inside. Therefore, I believe these two books are from
different print runs of the book over a period of years. In both of them, the
black rubber belts are the same. It is quite obvious at first glance that these
belts are neither part x89 or any other belt currently in the catalog. I have
never seen one like it. I will get this new belt added to the catalog and then
correct the inventory. After that, this request will be rejected since it is
not correct.

Cheers,
Randy

The new rubber belt has been added to the catalog as
[p=bb890]
and has been added to the inventory of

Book No: 9781591747697 Name: Crazy Action Contraptions Book (Klutz) Vol. 2
*
9781591747697 (Inv) Crazy Action Contraptions Book (Klutz) Vol. 2
Books: Idea Book

This request is now complete and will be closed.

My point was that if you categorize it as a bushing, you don't need to worry
about the length of it at all. You don't see the axle bushing above listed
as a "Technic Bush 1L". It is just "Technic Bush". So change that one to "Technic
Axle Bush" and

18654 Technic, Liftarm Thick 1 x 1 (Spacer)
Parts: Technic, Liftarm
to "Technic Pin Bush" and problem solved. No need to worry about the length at
all. Like I said, it doesn't and can't connect pins or axles at all,
so it is definitely *not* a "Technic, Pin Connector". And that's a fact.

I submitted changes along this train of thought long ago but they were not approved.
It is a 1x1 Liftarm in actuality but functions only as a bushing. I support moving
it to a more appropriate category.

Jen

I had never thought of it as a 1x1 liftarm, but that makes perfect sense at least
in an algorithmic type way. A liftarm that cannot actually lift or connect anything!
Maybe go further and rename all liftarms as double bush, treble bush, etc!

The official name for the part from LEGO is "Beam 1X1". That should tell you
exactly how they think it is classified. But I am against naming something
a liftarm that can't lift anything, just like I am against naming something
a pin connector that can't connect any pins.

I submitted changes along this train of thought long ago but they were not approved.
It is a 1x1 Liftarm in actuality but functions only as a bushing. I support moving
it to a more appropriate category.

I submitted changes long ago, also, and they were also rejected. Great minds
and all that!

How can factual correctness be less important than a choice of how to categorise
it? I'd say #1 is to get the facts straight, and after that, we can go and
organise it. But what SylvainLS points out here is a real mistake that should
be corrected. It's a small thing in itself, but the correctness of the catalog
is one of the core features that drive Bricklink. I'd say it's the main
selling point of Bricklink compared to BrickOwl.

Maybe someone thought it was 2 plates high, thus 2/3.. but it really raises the
question why it was ever approved.

So is a "pin" the same as a "stud"?

No. A "pin" is the standard Technic pin. Basically, half of

Part No: 2780 Name: Technic, Pin with Short Friction Ridges
*
2780 Technic, Pin with Short Friction Ridges
Parts: Technic, Pin

A "stud" is the standard connection point on the top of LEGO bricks and plates.

Example, part 2817 is a modified plate, 2 x 2 with pin holder
and it is possible to attach a stud of say a 1x4 in the pin holder to do a perpendicular
build. Is the cuff for attachment too shallow on the 18654 to, say, do a reversal?
Just asking or future buying and building

You can do a stud reversal with

Part No: 18654 Name: Technic, Liftarm Thick 1 x 1 (Spacer)
*
18654 Technic, Liftarm Thick 1 x 1 (Spacer)
Parts: Technic, Liftarm
just like with any other thick Technic liftarm since they are the same thickness.
Part 18654 is pretty much just a thick 1L Technic liftarm.

Randy

I’m wondering what’s the rationale for having changed the name (and dimensions)
of

Part No: 18654 Name: Technic, Liftarm Thick 1 x 1 (Spacer)
*
18654 Technic, Liftarm Thick 1 x 1 (Spacer)
Parts: Technic, Liftarm
from “1 L” to “2/3 L”.

I can’t see where it’s 0.67L.

Especially if I compare it to

Part No: 62462 Name: Technic, Pin Connector Round 2L with Slot (Pin Joiner Round)
*
62462 Technic, Pin Connector Round 2L with Slot (Pin Joiner Round)
Parts: Technic, Connector

Part No: 6538 Name: Technic, Axle Connector 2L (Ridged Undetermined Type)
*
6538 Technic, Axle Connector 2L (Ridged Undetermined Type)
Parts: Technic, Connector
and their variants, or with

Part No: 43857 Name: Technic, Liftarm Thick 1 x 2
*
43857 Technic, Liftarm Thick 1 x 2
Parts: Technic, Liftarm
and other liftarms/beams, or all the connectors with “# L” in their descriptions.

In the same way, its new dimensions are 1 x 1 x 0.67. As it’s a cylinder, it
means the 0.67 is supposed to apply to its height. But its height is exactly
1 stud, which is 5/6th = 0.83 brick, not 2/3rd = 0.67, and, anyway, “L” means
stud, not brick, so 1 = 1.

Therefore, I strongly believe its name should have stayed “Technic, Pin Connector
Round 1 L” and its dimensions should be 1 x 1 x 0.83.
(Actually, its diameter is a shy less than 1 stud, so its dimensions should be
0.9something x 0.9something x 0.83 but all the liftarms have the same width and
are said to be 1 stud wide.)

Not filing a proper catalogue change request because I really would want to know
the reasoning here, not play ping-pong.

I don't really care too much right now about the dimensions of the part.
What I care about more is how it is named and categorized. I have never thought
of it as a "Pin Connector" because it actually can't connect pins at all.
It is basically a 1L bushing for pins in the same way

Part No: 3713 Name: Technic Bush
*
3713 Technic Bush
Parts: Technic
is a 1L bushing for axles.

Comments from Submitter:
I only have 42 blue parts 2412b in my set and I only see 42 of them on the instructions. 18 on each wings, 3 around the Dark Gray Support, 2 under the Dark Gray Dish 4 x 4 Inverted and 1 in the back. Where is the 43th ?

The 43rd is on Step 3 of Page 2 (the floor of the cockpit).

Since the inventory is correct concerning this part, this request will not be
accepted.

From 7x sealed sets.

Before approving this I would like confirmation that the print really is dark
brown. In the other discussion topic I only saw people saying that the print
on their parts is not reddish brown. But printed colors can sometimes look a
bit different because of the background color on which it is printed. So please
compare the print on your parts with both reddish brown and dark brown parts
to make sure that this request is correct.

Thanks for taking the lead on this, Paul. I have been reviewing some YouTube
set reviews. It is hard to tell colors from many of them, but I think I have
seen both versions. If the OP is correct (and there is no reason to doubt otherwise),
I would like to have confirmation from someone who has a Reddish Brown version
in the set before we add an alternate instead of do an outright change.

Randy

I have quite a few rubber bands here and some more to post soon. I have generally
been pretty non-critical when parting out Technic sets with old rubber bands,
but I have one I'm not sure about at the moment and all this is to say:

If we edited the names of the old rubber bands to give approximate "diameter
at rest" would they still have in just a few size classes or would we find 20
size classes?

Some of the rubber bands do vary quite a bit in size, so the "approximate" sizes
in relation to other rubber bands has always been the best way to handle this.
Also, it is extremely hard to get a lot of these rubber bands to lay flat at
rest, so measuring them is, at best, mostly an approximation and a chore. The
rubber belts on the other hand are a completely different story and can be worked
out. This is project number 10 on the catalog roadmap (although it is labeled
wrong...it should say "Rubber Belt Cleanup").

Inventory says 2 pieces of blue plate 2x4. In the instruction 3 are used.

Great catch!

There are indeed three used to build the crane-car model (model C). One is used
in Step 1, one is used in Step 5, and one is used in Step 7. They are highlighted
in the finished build below.

Thanks for contributing to the accuracy of the BrickLink inventories.

I found bb72c01 exactly as it is in the picture. The string is tied to the winch,
and the hook is tied to the other end of the string. The string is also neatly
rolled up on the winch.
Unrolling the winch will extend the string. I can create about 32.5cm between
the hook and the winch roll. Add a little bit for knots and spanning the winch
roll and my conclusion is that the string is 35cm long.

Thank you for the information. Your requests have been accepted.

For now, I am not going to change the inventory of the preassembled part to include
a certain length of string, since we do not know if the length was always ~35cm
for this part. This thread will be saved indefinitely, though, so we can come
back to this information if we need it later.

One further question. Does your bb72c01 have a "right" crane hook on it like
the inventory shows, or does it have a "left" crane hook?

Cheers,
Randy

Comments from Submitter:
I just unboxed a sealed set. There is only one string and only one hook in this set, and they are both in part number bb72c01.

[part=bb72c01]
Part number bb72c01 consists of three parts: the winch with arm, the hook and
the string. The string is a x77a string (thin) with a length of 35cm, which would
make it part x77ac35, however this part doesn't exist (yet). I think it would
be a fair assumption that all parts bb72c01 came with a 35cm string (but I could
be wrong).

Before I can proceed with these requests, I need some more information if you
do not mind.

Did the three parts that make up
[p=bb72c01]
come separately in the sealed set, or were they all preassembled? The instructions
are inconclusive about this.

It's hard to come by data for sealed sets from this period of time, so we
have a good learning opportunity here.

Thanks,
Randy

The yellow one has been sold on BrickLink and it does exist. However, it was

made the official heads in orange. Inevitably, these test parts do make it out

Thanks, Randy, for your funny answer.
But we still have a problem as time traveling is not an option.

My son received this set in march 2003 and we never had any other set with any
sort of pumpkin head.
So, how can you explain the presence of this alternate part in our set ?
Beside, having other people with the same part switch is strange, isn't it
?

Maybe Lego changed the pattern of this part in later production and then re-used
it in a different set in 2009...

No offense meant, but I really don't think so. The part was added to BrickLink
in 2009. I find it very difficult to believe that no one in that seven year span
after the Harry Potter set was released found one in one of those sets and added
it to BrickLink before the LEGO game in 2009. Also, dual-sided, printed heads
were a *very* new thing around the 2002 time period, so it is far less likely
that they would have used a dual-sided head for the pumpkin at that time.

Having said all of that, I still tried to hunt down some more evidence. I have
literally searched hundreds of old listings from auction sites, and I did not
see one example where the pumpkin head was the one you are trying to add to the
set. I also found quite a few auctions showing sealed bags from the set, and
all of them have the pumpkin head that is included in the instructions and artwork
for the set.

What I do find much more probable is that used sets these days that are being
sold are using the newer head to finish them since the older head is not as easily
available.

I am sorry, but for a change of this magnitude, I would need to see one right
from a sealed set to believe it with my own eyes. The evidence against it being
probable are too high.

Cheers,
Randy

Keep it simple. A tile does not have studs. So if it has studs, then it is a
plate.

That's how I see things, also, but we will have to hold off on this debate
for a bit until Marek and I can get our plates cleared off to focus on catalog
projects again.

Marek is currently working through a huge catalog backlog that had accumulated
after Robert's departure, and I am currently in the mix of all the new sets
that were released as of April 1.

I just wanted to let everyone know that Marek and I have not forgotten what Robert
started, and we are keen to get to it in due time.

28 Parts, 1 Minifigure, 2006
Sets: Holiday & Event: Advent Sub-Set: City

* Add 2 Part 3004 Red Brick 1 x 2
* Delete 5 Part 3004 Red Brick 1 x 2

Comments from Submitter:
7 red 1x2 bricks are actually used in that set, not extra. 6 for the chimney (1 at rear for level 1 - 2 on each sides for level 2 - 2 on each sides and 1 at rear for level 3 - with an arch at front) and 1 as a gift pack in the brown box.

Nice catch!

Yep, I tried building it in LDD without the other two red bricks and it leaves
two holes in the back of the chimney unfilled. I have a feeling they were supposed
to be filled.

Randy

This comes up time and time again and is a great question.

The current answer is "Who knows?"

However, the admins have noted the need to do something. If you look on the Catalog

You might want to try looking at Ryan Howerter's images on all LEGO colors:

His images are all color balanced and show all of the colors quite accurately.
It is an indispensable resource for the LEGO enthusiast. He also lists what the
LEGO color names are and what the BrickLink color names are for each image.

We do not usually accept change requests based upon box images or instructions

Did you at least spot one of those 3 gears in that photo?

I have to admit that I did not see any of them.

Unfortunately I cannot be sure there are 3 of them not more. It was pretty hard
to see the 3 gears at once from one angle, let alone taking a good photo.

No problem. I can see them now in the newest image thanks to the highlights.

Thanks,

P.S. seems the form does still have problems. I couldn't change three items, so I requested to delete them and add them again with new match id.

Hey Reza!

Okay, I was able to see most of what I needed to in the photos, but I cannot
for the life of me see the extra light gray gear anywhere. Would you mind pointing
it out for me in the photos? Or maybe you can send me a higher-resolution image
with all three gears (the two regular plus one extra) highlighted in some way?

Thanks,
Randy

Nice photos. Thanks a lot for those!

See also the reply in the last change request: https://www.bricklink.com/messageThread.asp?ID=249150

Yep. That was the prior research I had done.

I've manage to find a sealed 8733 set, with a hole in the box. I was able to get all bags out of the box, still sealed. The parts mentioned in this change request all have the flat silver color in my set, apart from the 50919 foot piece, which has 2 flat silver and 2 pearl light gray.
However, looking at the post in the previous change, I think it's likely that there are different versions of color variations, sometimes completely pearl light gray or flat silver, sometimes a mix (as in my set).
I tried to get pictures with both the pearl light gray and flat silver color in it, but in real life the color difference is more clear.
I chose to keep the current inventory as is, and to list my parts as alternates. It might be an idea to have the set listed with on color only, and the other color as alternate parts, but I leave that to the admins to decide.

I made all of your colors the primary ones in the Regular Items section since
you have first-hand visual evidence and the photos you provided verify this.

NB. I could not get the existing parts to change the match ID in one go, I keep getting the "Oops! There was a problem processing your request:
Entry #6: New Item Type & Item No is same as Existing Item Type & Item No." error. Leaving the item no empty is not an option, so not sure how to do this.

There is an error in the form that is currently preventing this. I am sorry about
that, but us admins are waiting for the fix, too. I have manually updated everything
though to get the inventory straightened out. Take a look at it and see if everything
looks OK now.

Cheers,
Randy

Comments from Submitter:
It was pointed out to me that this entry was incorrect. I was unaware of the variant. I still have all three in stock and had submitted a new catalog pic that showed it was the variant.

This was a new one for me, also, and it was not on our variant watch list that
we use when verifying inventories. It has now been added to the watch list and
I have learned something new today.

Comments from Submitter:
Yellow 1x1 round plate open stud is part of this set, not an alternate. It needs to be moved into normal inventory.

From the inventory notes at the bottom of the inventory:

"Redesigned during production.
There are at least 2 different versions of instructions for this set. The differences
for the second version are indicated in this inventory in the Alternate Items
section with Match ID 99.

Quick overview of redesign: The yellow 1 x 1 cone at the end of the fire hose
is inverted so the large end is pointing out. A yellow 1 x 1 round plate with
hole is added to the large end of the cone to hold the water plume."

Since the inventory is correct concerning this part, this request will not be
accepted.

Randy

If the color which I marked "Bright Pink" is indeed "Pink" what about the Belville
Fairy on my photo ?

This part is available in :
belvFair8 : Belville Fairy - Bright Pink with Stars Pattern
belvFair4 : Belville Fairy - Dark Pink with Stars Pattern (Millimy)

Yours is definitely Pink, so maybe the catalog does not have your version.

There is at least one seller of belvFair8 that states in their description "PINK".

such, this request is redundant and will be rejected.
