You can use the instructions to see the parts for bag 1. Go though the instructions
until you reach the icon to open bag two. All of the parts are in the parts
lists for each step.

I'm very pleased to announce that we have appointed a new Inventories Administrator,
to fill in the place that Marek left when he was promoted to Catalog Associate.

For this position we have selected member Paulvdb (Paul), whom many of you may
know as a catalog contributor, inventories contributor, and Forum participant.
He is also an established seller (since 2011, I believe) so many of you may know
him also through that channel.

Paul has distinguished himself especially by his work with older inventories,
sharing many sealed set contents data with the site for some of our precious
old vintage sets. We have found his contributions to be ultra reliable and think
he is going to do very well in this new role.

Congratulations are in order!

Russell

Thank you all. I hope to do well in this new position.

LARGE Vs. SMALL

Unless you get exactly the same thing in each cup this calculation really doesn't
work. It works for you if you are curious as to the value you got but really
has nothing to do with the difference in size.

Just one example: You have the 28 1x4 which would be equivalent to about 250-350
1x1 round plates which equals nearly $12 (assuming 300).

I think a simple solution would be to fill the small cup with water twice and
dump it into the large cup to see what the difference in volume is.

That is a rough guide but with bricks you cannot fill the cups completely due
to voids. I know in the past people have checked the value of filling a big vs
small cup with just one type of part at a time (2x4 bricks or 1x1 round tiles).

For example, you can get 102 2x4s (8.8c each) in a small cup, compared to 167
(9.6c) in a large. Whereas if you just scoop into the small cup, it is down at
56 bricks (16.1c).

LARGE Vs. SMALL

https://youtu.be/4ewH-smrNFc

If you think you can sell them for the 6c price, you should have filled up with
the 1x1 round tile (closed eye). You can pack more than 3x of those than the
2x2 corner plate into either cup, and 3x6c = 18c, more than the "best value"
2x2 corner plates at 10c.

That might also be why your small cup appears better value, as you have 173 of
this part in the small cup but only 285 in the large cup. To make a fairer cost
comparison, you could have put 308 into the large cup (173*$16/$9). Or keep the
ratios of all the parts you add the same in both cups.

Yea I know there are multiple variables that can come into play. Next time I'm
going to buy three cups of each and go small medium to large pieces in each to
have a better idea if One is better than other.

Thanks for your input!

The more part is the following- ...and confirm what if any sets/MOCs I can build
via my current lego stock?

I researched the option to see "percent of parts avail" and saw this on another
site but I believe it was a site dedicated not only to sets, but MOC's and
for the life of me I can't remember where I saw that phrase at. I made a
post on BrickOwl as well and am pending response, but I'm pretty sure it
wasn't on brickowl.

Any help is appreciated!

2983 Electric, Motor 9V Micromotor Pulley
Parts: Electric, Motor
but does not have the trans-clear part. Maybe the newer ones in LBG did not have
that?

Funny that you should mention that. I have two LBG ones here and they have no
trans-clear part. And it is part of something too big for me to deal with alone,
so I'm going to have some questions tomorrow.

They are tied to the sets, but they are not tied by the "Item Appears In" data.
The "Item Appears In" data are used for links to things _within_ set inventories.
Since instruction manuals are an entry that gets created and tied automatically
to a set when a set entry is created, the instruction manuals do not have to
be put into the actual inventories. In fact, I can't even place an instruction
manual into an actual inventory.

Cheers,
Randy

I'm looking at the list of my lots which are not available for IC. As a part
of working that list, I looked at the catalog entry for one instruction booklet
(i.e. 1271-1). The catalog page says 'Item Appears In N/A'.

Are instructions not tied back to the set (or sets) they shipped with ?

Generally this is a 1:1 relationship, and should be obvious, but I do seem to
recall a few instructions that were coded with more than one set number. One
example of this is a set that was shipped both with and without a play stage
(or which several such examples exist from the 1990s).

See 6900/6999 for such a situation.

Hi

I am looking for help for the above kit, I recently bought an incomplete 6211
mostly in sealed original bags. I am trying to establish how many bags I should
have and if its possible to get parts lists per bag ?

I have 3 No2 bags one is missing 3 plates the other which was sealed appears
to be a copy but doesn't contain the missing plates. The third contained
small parts but again some duplicates.

Bag(s) No4 is missing.

I have 6 No7 Bags with what appears to be duplicate bags again.

All the other bags seem ok, I would just like to try and establish what I should
have and what I need to order

Thanks in advance

Mike

  Hi,

short answer is no, if I have understood what you mean by painting (ie: changing
texture of part, like decorated brick or sticker).

If you mean something else, please be more explicit.

For the record, I have looked a while back if there is any textures actually
used for decorated parts, and found none at all. Looks like textures has been
converted into raw colour data of some kind, but I didn't dig too much into
this.

Too bad we can't just put any pic somewhere in data to create custom decorated
parts.

Hi, thanks for your complete answer.

It's just weird even LDraw author pick this way to make "textures", UV Mapping
is not a new thing and it's pretty easy for most of the decorated LEGO parts,
minifigs are a bit more tricky to do.

We are talking about a format created in the 1990’s. Maybe you aren’t old enough
to remember how slow personal computers were at this time. I am
Drawing a simple mesh of a couple hundreds triangles took minutes if not hours.
Drawing what shows on each frame in Studio (bricks, some faces hidden, shadows,
Phong lighting…) would have taken hours. Now Studio does it dozens of times
per second.

“Simple” was misleading. Sorry for that. I didn’t mean it was theoretically
complicated (most 2D/3D graphics algorithms are way older than LDraw), I meant
it was practically infeasible and useless.
Also:
1. vectorial patterns are lighter and often better than bitmaps, especially for
the patterns that appear(ed) on LEGO parts,
2. patterns weren’t quite as important when there were so many basic parts not
yet modelled,
3. and I’m sure there are other sensible reasons

Now, yes, it’s debatable the LDraw Official Library took a bit too long to use
the texmap feature (AFAICT, the feature was added in 2012).

I can't believe anyone modelling 3D object would not use it... and regarding
Studio, as it use Unity, it wouldn't (ans shouldn't) be such a challenge,

I don’t know why Studio doesn’t implement texmaps. LDView and LDCad (among others)
do.
It’s true the official library didn’t use them but it does now (or will, as the
parts are still Unofficial for now).
I’m sure Studio will do too very soon.

except because of those parts from Ldraw.

Well, if it weren’t for LDraw, Studio wouldn’t have so many parts now.
So Studio is what it is now because of LDraw but also thanks to LDraw

(shortly UV Mapping is just given each vertex of a 3D object another set of coordinates:
U,V matching a point in the texture area which is basically a 2D tilled "world",
it is very visual and a standard after the basic plain face colours from the
90s)

LDraw (the underlying format for parts in Studio) is an old format. It’s not
a bad thing but it explains why, at the time it was created, mapping images wasn’t
a priority or a simple thing.
So, yes, most patterns are “in the flesh” of the parts: they are coloured surfaces
amongst the parts’ surfaces.
BUT, there’s also a (somewhat recent) feature to use common image files (PNG…)
to be mapped on the parts surfaces. The LDraw official library (that Studio
uses, mostly) has started to add parts that use that feature.
Unfortunately, that feature is not (yet?) supported by Studio.

Note that there’s also “stickers” in LDraw: Parts that are only coloured surfaces
and that can be placed in front of any plane surface to add patterns (like real
stickers but not bendable).
Studio chose not to add them in its palettes but they should be usable as custom
parts.

According to Summer (forum_admin on the dedicated forum for Studio: http://forum.bricklikn.com/
), and if I remember correctly (there are several highly awaited features), this
feature is in QA (testing) and will be released soon.

then print them to check off those sets I have, and what on the lot is found.
I put these into bags, and work my way through the lot until I have complete

This appears very old-school. What I would like is a like a "hypothetical" inventory,
that I can add a complete set, then click on the items as "found". This would
be nice if I could tag this to a lot for when I buy things off eBay or Facebook
Marketplace.BL to do this?

Not sure how helpful this is, but the way I've always sorted Bionicle is
by face or mask. Most of the masks didn't appear in too many sets, so it'll
help you narrow down what you have there.

Hi,

short answer is no, if I have understood what you mean by painting (ie: changing
texture of part, like decorated brick or sticker).

If you mean something else, please be more explicit.

For the record, I have looked a while back if there is any textures actually
used for decorated parts, and found none at all. Looks like textures has been
converted into raw colour data of some kind, but I didn't dig too much into
this.

Too bad we can't just put any pic somewhere in data to create custom decorated
parts.

Good afternoon, can you paint the bricks in Studio 2.0? If I want to put a white
brick with a red beater for example, can you do it on the show? There are more
pallets of bricks... Can be updated?
