What are people’s thoughts on the minifig that comes with the black VIP card
display promo set being offered from today, would it be classed as a SW minifig
or something else?

Hello,
I remember having the 8862 Backhoe version 1 when I was young and I still have
a couple of yellow top pneumatics. I rebuilt this old set with black top pneumatics
which would make it version 2, with instructions. That being said, I have been
unable to find an entry for the old version which is slightly different to the
one on Bricklink, it turns out the manuals were different (when adding electronic
motors).

My questions are:

Does Bricklink have versions of sets that would make the 8862 entry more correct?
It is currently a mix of old and new.

Does anyone have a 8862 Backhoe PDF instructions of the old version 1 that I
can have or buy? The usual websites only have version 2 but I want to have the
older one.

Thank you.

Notice the image of Part 30027u, showing 3 views of the part. The bottom view
of it doesn’t have any notches. All my 30027u’s look like this...no notches.
Looking at the photo of all the other similar parts, all versions are notched.
Shouldn't 30027u remain or be given a different part number?

So on the page for this part someone had photographed a macaroni tile in classic
blue which isn’t in any set. Is it coming out soon? If not, maybe it should be
removed? I really want one of these bug assume it’s a prototype for the time
being?

LOL, so the Christmas giftset 40292 has a male and a female hairpiece so that
the child can be a boy or a girl (and they're both on the box). But someone
uploaded a picture where the alternate hair is put on the DAD's head, kind
of making it a dad's hairdo optionality feature

I just recently noticed that there is a new category type: Special Assembly.
While I see this as a truly useful idea, I want to make sure of the constraints
about it. Because, if the first 18 examples are good to go by, this is going
to be a completely insane mess. Which is fine by me. But, before I add to the
madness, I want to make sure of the rules so I don't make anything unnecessarily
worse.

Thank you!

Oh, follow-up question: Why are the big-figs of Ares and Giant Man (and Groot
for that matter) listed as Special Assemblies. If anything, they should be put
in the Minifigures/Figures category instead, right? They are all actual characters
with names and everything. Shouldn't they be moved?

Again, thank you!

Btw if star Wars Darth Vader Castle is treated as 2018 set so as these have the

I just noticed the mask that is described with a "4 hole chin", is not the chin
area. The holes are actually on the opposite end of what I would call the 'chin'
area of the mask.

Or is this the reason the default images are upside down so the holes can be
referred to like a chin?

I am embarking on an ambitious project to create written definitions of every
single category in the BrickLink catalog. This has never been done before, although
Dan made a start here:

https://www.bricklink.com/help.asp?helpID=1568

I realize now that it was never done because it's a massive amount of work.
Even coding the page is taking me a while, but I have the first eight letters
in the alphabet done:

https://www.bricklink.com/help.asp?helpID=2479

I am absolutely going to need help with these definitions and, since you'll
be the ones most affected by category definitions, who better to ask?

Please read very carefully:

1. Descriptions should be short, but complete. I'm not looking for a legal
definition, but also don't want something vague and ambiguous - the point
of these definitions is so that we can easily and completely see what fits into
a category. Creating short, accurate, complete descriptions may tax your writing
ability, but I believe it is possible for every category. Focusing on accurate
descriptions rather than listing exclusions would be best.

2. Yes, my list is not structured like Dan's. His focuses on readability
while mine focuses more on functionality. This page, to my mind, exists to serve
a purpose, like a dictionary, and not to entertain or greatly inform. My page
is more of a reference we can all use as necessary and the alphabetical order
should make it easy to quickly locate information. So I've given this structure
some thought and I'm not too interested in restructuring the page.

3. Limit descriptions to one or two reasonably short sentences. My goal
is to get everything onto one line without breaks between categories. You can
see that the Years category at the top approaches the limit in length. If we
absolutely can't accomplish this for some categories, then we're stuck
with exceptions - but let's shoot for this goal.

4. Please do not post every five minutes with new definitions. Pick the section
below you're going to work on and create all the definitions for that
section. Then post back here with your complete list. I recommend doing this
in MS Word or some other word processing software to avoid losing data. You
may claim any of these sections already unclaimed:

1st Section: A, B, C, D, E
2nd Section: F, G, H, I, J
3rd Section: K, L, M, N, O
4th Section: P, Q, R, S, T
5th Section: U, V, W, X, Y

Ignore the letter Z - I'll get that out of the generosity of my heart.

5. Some of these definitions will require research. For parts, look over the
categories carefully and try to completely understand why they're structured
like they are before defining them. For sets, do enough research to present
a quality definition. Some categories are repetitious, so try to include slightly
differing information for each one (years, for example). An example of repetitious
categories are the Dimensions Wave 1-9. I'm defining every category except
for years for the sake of consistency.

6. Completely ignore decorated categories. There are 33, I think, and I will
create definitions for them.

7. We will have discussion about these categories later. First we need to get
definitions in place and then, later, we can all discuss together if the definitions
need improvements. So there should, in theory, only be 10 replies to this post:
five category claims and five category section definitions.

8. I will edit your definitions as I see necessary. Save your definitions somewhere
(shouldn't be a problem if you're writing them in word processing software)
and we can discuss later if you think I've butchered any of them beyond your
liking.

Okay, that's all I can think of. This will be work, but I can't imagine
doing this all on my own. So assistance is deeply appreciated and I wish I could
do more for you than just appreciate it.

It doesn't matter to me what we call it. I just wish the database was a
little more inclusive. For example, the sticker patterns from set 41150 are
still MIA on the database.

Question for the catalog team.

Are these considered lego(products) and is it worth adding them into the catalog?

Thank you

In my continual effort to make your lives marginally better (which is a close
second to my continual effort to be a person who does not use catchphrases),
I propose the following for discussion: why do we call patterns patterns pretty
much everywhere but in category names?

Nearly the only place you will see "Decorated" on BrickLink is in category names
(32 of them). When you click on decorated parts, though, you see parts with
patterns. I propose changing the word "Decorated" to the word "Pattern" in those
32 category names. This will have no effects except in aesthetics and site-wide
consistency.

LordSkylark has asked for a category split of the Aircraft category into patterned
and non-patterned parts. I decided to succumb to his demand and have created
a new category titled Aircraft, Pattern. Now you can look at it on the parts
category page and see if you prefer the way things are now or the way I suggest
we do things.

Provide input, please.

I have been searching for an image of this set for years:

Set No: 9978 Name: Home Environment
*
9978-1 (Inv) Home Environment
70 Parts, 4 Minifigures
Sets: Educational & Dacta: DUPLO: Playhouse

The set has no date of addition, so it must have been added to the site not too
terribly long after BrickLink was founded. At times I have wondered if the set
was even real, but the specificity of its name always made me think that it must
have existed.

Today I got this catalog in the mail which was not in the BrickLink database
and which I just now added:

Catalog No: c92usdac Name: 1992 Large US Dacta (Play is the Work of Children)
*
c92usdac 1992 Large US Dacta (Play is the Work of Children)
Catalogs: 1992: Educational & Dacta

In that catalog I finally found the long-missing image and added it. I'm
pretty confident that this is the only website anywhere that you can see an image
of set 9978-1. I'm pretty excited that my long search has finally ended
in satisfaction and wanted to share.

We are now down to only 29 sets without any image (and one of them is from 2018,
so it doesn't really count). If you'd like to see what we're missing,

In my continual quest to make your lives marginally better, I have just now put
together a list with photos of the different types of figures the LEGO Group
has produced over the years.

This list is not yet official and will change. It will have more detailed descriptions
of figures and hopefully better photos. It will also move from the current location
to an unknown location in the Catalog Help Center section. Or, of course, it
could also get shot down.

I have also asked that the item type Minifigs be retitled to Figures
in light of the wide range of figures of all different sizes we include in this
one section - no word on if this will happen or not. So the six item types would
be:

Sets
Parts
Figures
Books
Catalogs
Gear

This is truly a sneak peak for everyone - the people at the BrickLink office
haven't even seen it yet:

https://www.bricklink.com/help.asp?helpID=88

Your thoughts on this list and the item type retitle? Do you find this list
of figure types useful or is it something not needed?

Please consider changing the following titles of these parts:

Part No: 3011pb030 Name: Duplo, Brick 2 x 4 with Blue, Red and Yellow Bunting Pattern
*
3011pb030 Duplo, Brick 2 x 4 with Blue, Red and Yellow Bunting Pattern
Parts: DUPLO, Brick, Decorated

to: "Duplo, Brick 2 x 4 with Blue, Red and Yellow Pennants Bunting Pattern"

Part No: 4182pb043 Name: Door 1 x 4 x 5 Train Right, Thin Support at Bottom with Bunting Pattern (Sticker) - Set 41034
*
4182pb043 Door 1 x 4 x 5 Train Right, Thin Support at Bottom with Bunting Pattern (Sticker) - Set 41034
Parts: Door, Decorated

to: "Door 1 x 4 x 5 Train Right with Pennants Bunting Pattern (Sticker)
- Set 41034"

Part No: 59349pb125 Name: Panel 1 x 6 x 5 with String of Magenta and Medium Azure Bunting with White Dots Pattern (Sticker) - Set 41132
*
59349pb125 Panel 1 x 6 x 5 with String of Magenta and Medium Azure Bunting with White Dots Pattern (Sticker) - Set 41132
Parts: Panel, Decorated

to: "Panel 1 x 6 x 5 with String of Magenta and Medium Azure Pennants Bunting
with White Dots Pattern (Sticker) - Set 41132"

(bold to show change)

Reason: Outside of North America English, the word 'bunting' is used
for 'pennants'. Pennants are actually different and are used as a nautical
term for the signalling flags on ships, however, I presume North American English
(Canada and USA) have adopted this the term for festive flags also. Those outside
US/Canada may not find these parts when searching for bunting.

How on Earth did this image get cleared by the catmins?

I have seem some blurry, dark, petite, ... pictures of Lego items in the past

I don't even get what benefit there would be from taking a picture this way.

I have split heads into two categories. Minifigure heads now exist in the original
category and a new category titled Minifigure, Head, Faceless:

https://www.bricklink.com/catalogListOld.asp?catType=P&catString=1010&itemBrand=1000

This category will be for any heads which do not have a minifigure face, whether
the heads are simply plain or have some non-face pattern. I have only moved
three low-impact heads right now to give everyone an idea of what it will look
like. If there are no objections, then I will move the remaining heads which
qualify.

This was necessary because in the past the practice for heads without a face
was to use the wording "Head with XXXX Pattern." The addition of the word "with"
forced faceless heads (but not plain, unprinted heads) to the bottom of the list
of heads when searching by title and thus grouped them in one place.

This was not a perfect solution, however, because it ignored unprinted heads
and caused confusion for members when titling heads. I just looked at the end
of the list and found several standard heads which used the "with" keyword (which
isn't really a keyword at all because you can't search for it).

Anyway, thoughts on this new category? If it's not the best idea, then I
can always move the three heads back to from where they came and we can pretend
this never happened.

First, let me thank you all for your assistance with these projects. Thanks
to your hard work and discussion we have completed four projects within the last
month and three are ongoing:

https://www.bricklink.com/help.asp?helpID=2473

The seventh project consists of moving every 47th item in the Set item type to
the Gear item type. This is necessary because the Set item type just seems larger
than the Gear item type. When these items are moved, perhaps we can also give
them funny titles.

On a more serious note, this project actually consists of standardizing
whether set numbers appear in minifigure titles. Here are some examples of different
ways set numbers are included or not included in minifigure titles:

Minifig No: twn215 Name: Balloon Vendor
*
twn215 (Inv) Balloon Vendor

Minifigures: Town: Classic Town: Coast Guard

Minifig No: twn019s Name: Patron - Black Suit with Two Buttons and Red Tie (Torso Sticker), Black Legs, Black Cowboy Hat
*
twn019s (Inv) Patron - Black Suit with Two Buttons and Red Tie (Torso Sticker), Black Legs, Black Cowboy Hat
Minifigures: Town: Classic Town

Minifig No: pln115 Name: Plain White Torso with White Arms, Red Legs, Red Female Hair
*
pln115 (Inv) Plain White Torso with White Arms, Red Legs, Red Female Hair
Minifigures: Town: Classic Town

Minifigures: Technic: Competition

Minifig No: frnd102 Name: Friends Stephanie - Dark Pink Shorts, White Top with Stars

frnd102 (Inv) Friends Stephanie - Dark Pink Shorts, White Top with Stars
Minifigures: Friends

Minifig No: bob034 Name: Flying Dutchman
*
bob034 (Inv) Flying Dutchman
Minifigures: SpongeBob SquarePants

I realized that standardizing this would be as simple as a single sentence added
to the appropriate section of this page (which hasn't been updated since
2010):

https://www.bricklink.com/help.asp?helpID=179

But before we change anything, let us discuss. Do you want minifigure titles
to include set numbers? Do you find set numbers in minifigure titles useful
or can you live without them? Once we decide and get written policy in place,
then we only need to examine the titles of all the minifigures and adjust as
necessary. If we go with including set numbers, then the format would be this
(with the words Multiple Sets instead of individual set numbers for figures that
appear in more than one set):

Minifigure Name (Set 1000-1)
Minifigure Name (Multiple Sets)

If we go with not including set numbers, then we just need to remove existing
set numbers from titles. I don't have a preference either way on this one.
Thoughts?

35394 is not an alternative design number of the old 4x4 dish.

Part No: 3960 Name: Dish 4 x 4 Inverted (Radar) with Solid Stud
*
3960 Dish 4 x 4 Inverted (Radar) with Solid Stud
Parts: Dish

It's a new design with a hole/open stud in the middle.

See Brickset catalog entry:

So.. what's the deal with the Projectile Launcher category? Currently has
one item:

Part No: 15301c01 Name: Projectile Launcher, 1 x 4 Spring Shooter with Light Bluish Gray Top
*
15301c01 Projectile Launcher, 1 x 4 Spring Shooter with Light Bluish Gray Top
Parts: Projectile Launcher

I proposed this category so various shooters can be grouped together, since they
are now scattered across categories and in my opinion it's pretty arbitrary.
I assume this category is still a work in progress, but anyway I thought it could
be useful to post about it.

Just have a look, (I have left out variants and some projectiles just to keep
the post tidy)

Part No: 35456c01 Name: Projectile Launcher, Net Shooter with Dark Bluish Gray Firing Pin (35456 / 35457)
*
35456c01 (Inv) Projectile Launcher, Net Shooter with Dark Bluish Gray Firing Pin (35456 / 35457)
Parts: Projectile Launcher

This one is in Vehicle - did you guess that? Even though it also appears as a
fixed shooter.

Part No: x110c01 Name: Projectile Launcher, Cannon Shooting
*
x110c01 Projectile Launcher, Cannon Shooting
Parts: Projectile Launcher

Part No: 18588 Name: Projectile Launcher Part, Rapid Shooter Six Barrel - Angled Barrels
*
18588 Projectile Launcher Part, Rapid Shooter Six Barrel - Angled Barrels
Parts: Projectile Launcher

These are in Minifig,Weapon - even though they cannot be held by a minifig
or are part of a weapon held by a minifig, unlike every single other entry in
this category.

Part No: 57029c01 Name: Projectile Launcher, Cannon, Flat Bottom
*
57029c01 Projectile Launcher, Cannon, Flat Bottom
Parts: Projectile Launcher

These are in the generic Technic category - which probably is a category that
we want to reduce as much as possible in general, and these shooters are massively
more frequent in non-Technic sets. Actually I struggle to find Technic sets with
them.

Part No: 16968 Name: Projectile Launcher, 1 x 4 with Inside Clips (Disk Shooter)
*
16968 Projectile Launcher, 1 x 4 with Inside Clips (Disk Shooter)
Parts: Projectile Launcher

This one is in Brick,Modified, even though it has pretty much exactly the same
characteristics as the one and only part that is currently in Projectile Launcher.

Part No: 15403 Name: Projectile Launcher, 1 x 2 Mini Blaster / Shooter
*
15403 Projectile Launcher, 1 x 2 Mini Blaster / Shooter
Parts: Projectile Launcher

This one is in Plate,Modified - while that is not altogether unlogical, I still
wouldn't guess it, especially if a Brick,Modifidish part is already in Projectile
Launcher.

[P=19020c01]

Part No: 15303 Name: Projectile Arrow, Bar 8L with Round End (Spring Shooter Dart)
*
15303 Projectile Arrow, Bar 8L with Round End (Spring Shooter Dart)
Parts: Projectile Launcher

The Bar category is expanding a bit too rapidly to my taste, these items have
limited Bar-like constructional value, and they would do great in a Projectile
Launcher category, or called Shooters & Projectiles or something, grouping projectiles
together with the things that fire them, which are already in that category.

What do you think?

For those of us that run a shop with the inventory storage based on the BL catalog,
it can be a puzzle when items get moved to a different category.

Internally we have a web page that shows items that have moved. Would that be
helpful for others as well? See this link:

http://www.qwertyboy.org/files/BL/BL-catalog-changes.php

Currently I have it limited to only pick "parts" or "minifigs" - in the last
month there have been an _insane_ amount of category changes for gear/sets/instructions
etc.

I never thought that I will have problem with some parts.
Can somebody show me the difference between:

Part No: 93587 Name: Vehicle, Mudguard 3 x 4 x 1 2/3 Curved
*
93587 Vehicle, Mudguard 3 x 4 x 1 2/3 Curved
Parts: Vehicle, Mudguard
and

Part No: 38224 Name: Vehicle, Mudguard 3 x 4 x 1 2/3 Curved Fenders
*
38224 Vehicle, Mudguard 3 x 4 x 1 2/3 Curved Fenders
Parts: Vehicle, Mudguard

I'm looking at the renders of these two parts in yellow and I don't see
any difference.

Hello,
I was checking parts on a "Republic Dropship with AT-OT Item No: 10195-1" here:
https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?S=10195-1#T=I

I noticed that in my set I followed the first set of instructions. I've attached
the relevant part from page 30 just in case.

When I check the bricklink parts list I noticed that it shows up as two same
parts with the sticker going up, not two different parts, one up and the other
down.

I realize this is a detail, I'm curious to know if this is relevant to bricklink
and how this is managed and/or changed.

Thank you.

Does anyone know if the Exo-Force comic books (https://www.bricklink.com/catalogList.asp?catType=B&catString=331.568)
exist physically?

I was of the understanding that these 'comic books' (Graphic Novels)
were only downloadable from Exo-Force website (a silly marketing mistake in
my opinion
). Fans would download them and perhaps print them out and bind
them (told you it was a silly marketing mistake). I am not trying to
imply that this is what has happened here. However, if they are homemade copies,
then I think this would obviously be breaking the Bricklink policy to have them
in the catalog.

For discussion: the additional note
"The top of the heads of the earliest examples of this part had a more squared-off
forehead as shown on the left in the comparison image (image courtesy of chetzler)."
is, in my opinion, not correct.

Earlier versions had a more round forehead (shown on the right), the later examples
(Futuron, Blacktron and later) hat a more squared-off head (shown on the left).

The sixth project is to review all of the existing additional catalog notes:

https://www.bricklink.com/help.asp?helpID=2473

I am not aware of a full-scale review of additional notes ever having occurred
in the past. The purpose of this review is primarily to ensure that the notes
are necessary, but also to ensure that they are relevant and grammatically correct.
We now have over 4,000 additional notes and I know for sure that we don't
need some of them. It is my belief that catalog and inventory notes should be
used only when necessary. I'm not against them, but they are special tools
which should be used for a purpose.

Here is an example of an additional note which is unnecessary:

Set No: LLCA51 Name: Legoland California 10th Birthday Cupcake Box (LLCA Ambassador Pass Exclusive)
*
LLCA51-1 (Inv) Legoland California 10th Birthday Cupcake Box (LLCA Ambassador Pass Exclusive)
92 Parts, 2009
Sets: LEGO Brand: LEGOLAND Parks

The additional notes states: "Unglued, with candle." This set is clearly not
glued. If it were glued, then it would (or at least definitely should) be categorized
as Gear: Glued Model. As for the candle, this is self-evident from the image
of the set. Nothing would be lost by completely removing this additional note.

Here is another example of a completely unnecessary additional note:

Set No: LLCA52 Name: Sand Castle - Ambassador Class 2010 (LLCA Ambassador Pass Exclusive)
*
LLCA52-1 (Inv) Sand Castle - Ambassador Class 2010 (LLCA Ambassador Pass Exclusive)
229 Parts, 1 Minifigure, 2010
Sets: LEGO Brand: LEGOLAND Parks

The additional note states: "Exclusive item for 2010 Lego Ambassador Pass holders."
This information is already contained in the title of the set and other similar
items do not include additional notes.

And another example:

Gear No: bead004pb035 Name: Bead, Square with Batman Head Pattern on Opposite Sides
*
bead004pb035 Bead, Square with Batman Head Pattern on Opposite Sides
Gear: Bead

This additional note states: "Batman head pattern appears on two opposite sides."
This information should be included in the title of this item, not in an additional
note.

During this review, please report any bugs you discover. This item, for example,
supposedly includes an additional note:

Part No: 4221 Name: Arm Grab Jaw
*
4221 Arm Grab Jaw
Parts: Arm

As you can see, no note exists. Bugs like this need to be corrected and I will
work to get this done. To find items with additional notes, use the Advanced
Catalog Search feature.

Thank you all in advance for your assistance with this project.

A new catalog project has begun:

https://www.bricklink.com/help.asp?helpID=2473

As you can see, the (Other) project is now complete and LordSkylark's project
is temporarily on hold.

The fifth catalog project is to remove images which are renders and which show
parts which do not exist in the colors shown. There are estimated to be 1,600
of these renders left in the catalog and there is no easy way for me to locate
them.

I would imagine the majority of them are for basic, undecorated parts. Please
post here with micro tags for the parts which need rendered images removed and
specify the colors. I will review the findings and remove the renders where
appropriate. Please note that this project will not be removing any actual
photos of parts.

Thank you all for your assistance.

Going back to discussion on alternate parts and the stupid decision to remove
the 3930c01 hing brick assembly from catalog we have above part, the glass fits
four seperate window frames so does that mean each one of those will have multiple
variants for glass colour.

Needs some consistency, the hinge brick parts are available seperately but are
usually in sets in the same colour, hence the assembly as a standard catalog
item. Glass on window frame is not required and will generate lots of unneeded
extra parts for catalog

OK … I forgot … is there a BL number to the Malevolence custom model? This model
is an alternative build using parts from sets 7748, 7749, 8016, 8017, 8019, 8036,
8037, 8038 and 8039. I had it built for years … but now broken down. If there
is a BL number … I can double check the inventory. Thanks … LEE

I have this set of hips from Patrick, without the legs:

Part No: 970c90pb02 Name: Hips and Light Nougat Legs with Purple Flowers on Lime Shorts Pattern (SpongeBob SquarePants Patrick)
*
970c90pb02 Hips and Light Nougat Legs with Purple Flowers on Lime Shorts Pattern (SpongeBob SquarePants Patrick)
Parts: Minifigure, Legs, Decorated

But it shows no inventory for that assembly to split up the legs from the hips.

As far as I can see in the catalog, only solid color hips and legs are sold separately.
Am I missing something? Can the decorated hips and legs be sold separately?

Thanks,

Lisa

Hi, I was wondering why the HP figs from 5005254 have been cataloged under Harry
Potter while the Superheroes (Avengers Infinity War) are under Collectible? The
Jurassic World figs are under Collectible too while Ninjago is simply under Ninjago?
What is the rationale behind these decisions please? Is there something obvious
I'm missing?

Hi all.

Most of you may not know this but I believe that the mugs selection in the 'Gear'
category doesn't do it justice, as 90% of those images are not quite good
enough to see the whole design of the mugs fully.

I propose that the mugs selection to be allowed to have 3 images maximum, which
will allow the mugs to be displayed fully, and that the whole design can be seen.

I am willing to submit at least 60+ mugs to the catalogue, but it will be difficult
to show the mugs off if I'm limited to 1 picture.

Can this suggestion be implemented?

Cheers,

Paul

I'm new in this forum, please let me know if I should use a different topic.

I'm not getting through the currently available baseplates. How can I sort
by plate size in the Bricklink catalog? For example, how would I find out if
there is currently a 32x32 baseplate in (Light Bluish) Gray?

I find it hard to see through. E.g., the 48x48 plates are listed as part 4186,
but it says: Years Released: 1980 - 2016. If I'm looking for sets, for example,
the 10701 appears, which has been sold since 2015 and still is according to Lego
online store.

So the listing 4186 is incorrect in saying that there is no current 48x48 baseplate.

When I search baseplate in sets, no sizes are displayed, it can not be sorted
by year.

Thank you

Hi everybody!

I've had quite an adventure trying to track down a copy of 53588 Dark Bluish
Gray Baseplate, Raised 16 x 16 No Studs with Cross Opening, 4 Holes.

I got an incomplete copy of 7739 in a Craigslist lot and wanted to complete it.
First, I bought 2 copies of 53588 from USA sellers early this year, but when
they arrived they both had the Red and Light Gray marbling described in the entry
for 53588pb01. The marbling is fairly subtle, so I didn't blame the sellers
for missing it, and they both gave me refunds.

Then I tried messaging every single North American seller who had a copy of 53588
listed to see if it was actually solid Dark Bluish Gray with no marbling. Many
never replied, but all took down their listings within a week. I was busy for
a few months, but over the last week I've messaged more sellers. Again, nothing.
Most sellers have taken down their listings, and the 3 that returned my messages
confirmed that there was marbling in their copies that they missed.

Now I'm starting to wonder if a solid-color 53588 with no marbling actually
exists. I've tried Google, Brickset, and other sources to find pictures of
the set, but no pictures show the part in high enough quality to confirm there's
no marbling -- except box and instruction artwork, which doesn't count.

The biggest thing that makes me suspect that a non-marbled piece doesn't
exist is that both of the marbled 53588pb01 copies I have are almost definitely
Dark Bluish Gray, not Dark Gray... but they still have marbling. According to
Bricklink, those pieces shouldn't exist. So perhaps the part was entered
incorrectly, and the old Dark Gray versions of the mold from 4 Bionicle sets
and the Dark Bluish Gray version in 7739 are all marbled?

Can anyone who owns 7739, especially a copy they built new, check to see if their
53588 from that set is marbled? And if any seller out there can confirm that
they have a non-marbled piece for sale, you will immediately get my business.

Thanks everyone!

Hi everyone!

I've recently sorted my parts by bricklink catalog category instead of colors
and already finished it.

I saw that some categories are new now - seems like at least 4 new categories
have been created from the old "(Other)" category:
* Accessory, Human Tool
* Chain
* Energy Effect
* Ring

Any other new categories than the 4 mentioned?

Instead of checking the list of categories every day (https://www.bricklink.com/catalogTree.asp?itemType=P&itemBrand=1000),
is there some way to find out which categories are new (chronologically sorted)?

Thanks!

The next catalog project consists of replacing all current photos of minifigures
with photos of the same minifigures on sport bikes. You can see this on the
Catalog Roadmap:

https://www.bricklink.com/help.asp?helpID=2473

Okay, not really. The (Other) project is winding down and next we're looking
at implementing some, if not all, of LordSkylark's suggestions. We need
to decide together how many of these (or maybe all of them?) we want to tackle.
Let's discuss them.

Reorganizing dual-colored molded arms.

My take: I'm good with this and it has been requested before. It will reduce
catalog entries from 23 to 11 entries for straight two-color arms. It will take
some work and I'm not sure about the exact logistics, but it can be done.

Adding individual decorated hips and legs.

My take: This is currently against policy. Policies can be changed, though.
My question would be this: is it necessary? Does anyone feel a burning need
to sell these parts? Have your buyers been requesting them? How many support
this and how strongly?

Adding individual Technic figure parts.

My take: currently against policy, a policy which is not adhered to considering
that at least one of these is already in the catalog. I see little harm in it,
but again: how many want this and how badly?

Changing titles of certain dual-sided heads to reflect this fact and splitting
heads into single-side print and dual-side print categories.

My take: I think these are good ideas, but am always willing to listen to dissenters.

Reorganizing/renumbering certain mini doll legs to reflect a change in production
methods.

My take: I would like to see a detailed explanation of the exact issue to understand
it better. I believe one was posted somewhere, but it would be great if it could
be posted one last time in this thread so that we all have an idea of what this
would entail.

Splitting decorated/non-decorated minifigure legs.

My take: This one was not on the list for the original project, but I'm adding
it. There are over 1,400 items in the Minifig, Legs Assembly category and I
find it exceedingly difficult to find non-decorated legs in all that mess. Does
anyone else besides me feel like this would be a good split?

I suggest a new category is created called 'Ephemera' and things like
competition forms and event guides from the ' (Other) ' category are
moved into there.

I think this is a bad call, that complete assembly is necessary, but just my
2 cents, others may disagree. And absolutely not looking forward to wasting
the time to "undo" and reenter years worth of inventory.

"Hinge Brick 1 x 4 Swivel - Complete Assembly - (MARKED FOR DELETION)
Item No: 3830c01

This item was marked for deletion because it sets a precedent for adding dozens
of unnecessary combinations of hinges as assemblies to the catalog."

This may mix up our sorting system otherwise.

As requested I didn't answer the original post.

Once again I would first like to congratulate [StormChaser] and the community
on the progress made in the ' (Other) ' Category Project.

I would like to raise my points to a few things in clearing out the ' Gear
(Other) ' category:

[1] Accessory, Human Tool - Rip Cords

The ' Accessory, Human Tool ' category has been created and it blurs
the line between a Part and Gear. I guess we should wait until all part categories
have been properly defined, however, the category has already been created and
rip cords have already been added. Therefore I suggest we move these gear ...

[g=ripcordcover1][g=ripcordcover2]

... as parts in the ' Accessory, Human Tool ' category. Also rename
them

" Human Tool, Rip Cord Handle Cover in Flexible Rubber with Lion Head for Chima
Speedorz "

and

" Human Tool, Rip Cord Handle Cover in Flexible Rubber with Crocodile Head for
Chima Speedorz "

, respectively.

This leaves ...

Gear No: 6043203 Name: Legends of Chima Rip Cord Pack, Crocodile
*
6043203 (Inv) Legends of Chima Rip Cord Pack, Crocodile
Gear: Accessory Pack: LEGENDS OF CHIMA

Gear No: 6031641 Name: Legends of Chima Promotional Pack
*
6031641 (Inv) Legends of Chima Promotional Pack
Gear: Accessory Pack: LEGENDS OF CHIMA

... which under the Human Tool definition should be sets and not gear.

[2] Accessory, Human Tool - Ruler

For the same reason as above, I suggest we merge the ruler set inventory with
the ruler (see also https://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=1060834). So merge
...

Gear No: 852759 Name: Ruler
*
852759 (Inv) Ruler
Gear: Office Supplies

... into ...

[p=bb342]

So in the same manner gear ...

Gear No: 852690 Name: Designers' Tool Set
*
852690 (Inv) Designers' Tool Set
Gear: Accessory Pack

...should become a set.

[3] Speech Bubbles

The speech bubbles gear ...

Gear No: 81087 Name: Minifigure Speech Bubbles (2011)
*
81087 (Inv) Minifigure Speech Bubbles (2011)
Gear: Office Supplies

... should be a set and its inventory (perhaps all but the stensil) should be
parts, since they interact with minifigs and not us humans.

That's all at the moment. I will be interested in your thoughts.

Good morning

It is now clear from the evidence we have gathered that the catalogue is not
currently correct for these part id's. The part

Part No: 87552 Name: Panel 1 x 2 x 2 with Side Supports - Hollow Studs
*
87552 Panel 1 x 2 x 2 with Side Supports - Hollow Studs
Parts: Panel
is correct but
should only be used for solid colours, similar to the 3004/3065. Both the 94638
and 353787 are for Transparent colours of the same part - we are in the process
of investigating those two parts to see if there is any difference in them.

So far the 94638 comes in 4 transparent colours Trans-Clear, Trans Bright Green,
Trans-Black and Trans-Light Blue. The part also carries a slightly different
description with Lego - incorporating the Letters PC (PolyCarbonite) at the end.

The 35378 is currently only available in Trans-Clear, Trans Light Blue and Trans-Black.

All 3 parts are available through the Lego Bricks & Pieces site as separate items.

What we suggest in the first instance is to separate 87552 and restrict it to
solid colours only. Hopefully in due course we will have the answer on the other
2.

I have found a sticker sheet from the Grand Soccer Stadium set with all of its
minifigs.

www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?S=3569-1#T=I

The problem is that the person who originally had it used the green set of jersey
stickers on the white minifig torsos. The catalog has only the red stickers on
the red torsos and the white stickers on the white torsos. There are actually
2 other choices that could have been made, the green jersey stickers and the
blue jersey stickers. As much as I would to add these to the catalog it is a
bit more of a project than I am willing to get into at the moment.

So, is anyone interested in taking on this project? I am happy to donate the
stickers and minifigs that I have to someone if they are willing to spend the
time to photograph and upload the minifigs to the catalog.

Hi

I saw this on Amazon Prime, and I was instantly curious as to what the name really
means

Set No: 2729 Name: Greedy (Quattro Leg) polybag
*
2729-1 (Inv) Greedy (Quattro Leg) polybag
17 Parts, 1999
Sets: Universal Building Set: Classic Basic

Why is this packaged as a McDonalds set, and it has nothing to do with Quattro?

Maybe this is an item that needs to be 'sorted out'?

Regards,

Paul

When trying to figure out what the pictured item was I ran across item #41114
which is showed as a complete item and has a very similar sticker on it from
LEGO.

http://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?id=69086

So, should the parts I have bundled together be listed as a combined part?

Sorry if my questions seems dumb, but I wonder:

Stormchaser, who is a Catalogue Administrator, is posting to the catalogue requests
topic. But who is in charge of approving/denying those requests? To me it seems
that he is posting to himself?
Same for inventories requests (Hygrotus).

Can someone please explain:
- what is the purpose of these requests?
- when you are an administrator, like Hygrotus or Stormchaser, who is the person
that approves/denies? As far as I know there's not a Super Inventories /
Catalogue Administrator paid by BrickLink who has the last word.

Who's the boss?

One bit of inconsistency that has been bothering me for a while, is that, though
part (64567) is classified as a "Minifig, Weapon", its modified variant, part
(92690), is listed in "Bar".
Though I do not care where these parts are reclassified, I do want
to see them in the same category.

We have completed the first catalog project and it was moved down and out:

https://www.bricklink.com/help.asp?helpID=2473

Work has now begun on the second project, which is retitling all of the minifigures
to include the number 7 in the title (this number indicates the optimal number
for a group photograph and is necessary for the convenience of people who photograph
groups of LEGO minifigures).

That is only a little joke. We're actually doing something more controversial:
categorizing the 700+ items which have not yet been categorized. These items
are currently categorized as (Other), meaning they are not categorized.

I have given this some thought (about ten minutes worth) and decided that there
is no need to worry about how many categories we create. The time for worrying
about that has long passed. If we're honest with ourselves, the categories
and sub-categories page for sets is huge and the parts category list is also
huge. At some point BrickLink may code main menus for classes of items, but
until then I'm not going to concern myself with trying to limit categories
to a manageable number. The time to worry passed when you could no longer view
them on a single page.

I'm going to try to move as many items as possible into existing categories,
but if new categories must be created, then so be it.

Here's the plan: I'm going to post back here later today with all my
proposed changes (I may have to take this in steps) and give people a chance
to comment. These changes will not make everyone happy and not every suggestion
can be honored, but I will take into consideration everyone's thoughts about
the changes I'm suggesting.

Once we reach a reasonable consensus, then I'll start moving stuff with a
goal of clearing out (Other) items within one month. I plan to open a separate
forum thread which people should not comment on to document changes which
are actually made for easy reference by buyers and sellers.

If anyone objects to moving these things, please remember that they are not categorized
at all right now. Other is not a category and this change, although it will
take adjusting to, is a needed and requested improvement.

Some Minifig heads have shorter studs and holes that are actually recessed, compared
to other heads where the hole depth is the same as the stud height.

I have no idea where this fits into the Grand Scheme Of Things, but there is
a variation among those "recessed stud" pieces...which may or may not actually
be a misnomer.

The first major catalog project is now underway. This first project consists
of retitling certain minifigure heads and there are instructions on the Catalog
Roadmap for how to help get it finished:

https://www.bricklink.com/help.asp?helpID=2473

My goal for completing this thing is one week and I would appreciate any assistance.
To avoid duplication of effort, please use this forum thread to coordinate your
efforts as necessary.

Why don't I just go in and retitle every affected head myself? Because it
is roughly the same amount of work for me to retitle a part as it would be for
a member to submit a catalog change request to retitle a part. I am only one
person with a full-time job outside of BrickLink and I simply don't have
that much time.

When you submit a catalog change request, all I have to do is read through a
list and make sure you've gotten it right. Then I click a checkbox for each
requested change and approve them. Alternatively, once I see that all the requested
changes are correct I can mass-approve them without checking the boxes. The
attached image shows you what I see when you submit change requests.

I know many of you want changes to the catalog and if those changes happen, then
we're all going to have to share the work. The open catalog changes requests
queue is pretty much cleared out and ready for action. So inundate me with change
requests for C-type heads and let's get something done!

Thank you all for your suggestions for changes and the assistance you provide
in making them actually happen.

I am wasting no time in making your lives marginally better, my friends.

For your convenient reference, we now have a list with links and descriptions
of known part variants which are not distinguished by BrickLink:

https://www.bricklink.com/help.asp?helpID=940

This list is majorly incomplete and I could use some assistance in completing
it. If you're bored and want to gather additional variants not yet shown
on the list, please respond to this message with your list of variants (macro
tags appreciated, but not absolutely necessary).

To save others duplicating work, you might reply first saying you're going
to be working on it.

Hi all.

I'm pretty sure, like a lot of us who use this website, we have items that
are not within this catalogue's database, and would like to submit images
(like stickered parts)

I have tried so many times in the past, to re-size images to get under the 800x600
pixel limit, and have failed.

I can understand why the limit IS there, but with this day and age of high resolution
cameras on mobile phones, I have found that I still can't re-size images
to a size suitable.

Is it possible that BL's programmers will understand that this limit can
be lifted for image submissions ONLY.

for example, I submit an image of an item, and it's too big to use within
the catalogue, the CAT ADMIN can use that image, and re-size it suitably, as
not all of us are knowledgeable of various programs that will allow this to happen,
as this will really 'encourage' people to submit images, because I have
often 'given-up' trying to re-size images, and I'm pretty sure that
I'm not the only one.

If this isn't a suitable thing to do, then maybe someone can point me in
the right direction so that I can do this?

Regards,

Paul

Want to know where we're going with the catalog? Hard to do without a map,
isn't it?

I'm excessively pleased to announce the all-new Catalog Roadmap in the Help
Center:

https://www.bricklink.com/help.asp?helpID=2473

If you lose that link, you can always find the page in the Help Center for the
catalog:

https://www.bricklink.com/help.asp?topicID=21

This is an effort to increase transparency about what is happening with the BrickLink
catalog and to make it feel more like a community effort. And, of course, to
get some stuff done.

And no, before anyone asks, I don't know what's going on with the site
roadmap. I thought it was a fantastic feature and I'm quite excited to finally
have something similar for the catalog.

Feedback? Ideas? Comments?

Hello everyone,

We are pleased to announce that we have made another appointment. StormChaser,
who was appointed as Inventories Administrator last year, has now been promoted
to Catalog Administrator.

This is an important step for BrickLink. We haven't had a Catalog Admin appointment
for over nine years, and this is the first time someone has moved from the Inventories
side of the system to the Catalog side.

We believe StormChaser is highly qualified for this position. In addition to
an outstanding year as an Inventories Admin, he has had years of intense experience
with every area of the BrickLink Catalog. He has made many thousands of corrections,
uploaded an enormous amount of new data, and has solved a number of LEGO mysteries
over the years. So we're very pleased he has agreed to accept this position,
and we look forward to his activity in this new area.

We will be be making another appointment soon to fill his former position as
Inventories Administrator.

Russell

Looking through some parts that I have, I've got 8 of these dark red hips
with dark red legs, and according to the catalog, they never came in any set.

Where did these come from?

I can sell the cupboard by itself, but the door is listed. I looked for an assembly
but I didn't see one. Can you point me to the catalog entry that allows
me to sell it?

I do have an assembly, white with red door.

Any help is appreciated.

Set No: 7242 Name: Street Sweeper
*
7242-1 (Inv) Street Sweeper
60 Parts, 1 Minifigure, 2005
Sets: Town: City: Traffic

I was looking at this inventory and noticed a redesign consisting of the black
Technic pin being lengthened and the yellow 2 x 4 slope being split into two
slopes. However, I can't find any instructions online for the later version.
This is, provided that different instructions were made. It could have been
a supplemental instructions sheet or no changes at all (although I doubt that
the changes were not noted in the instructions, it is possible).

This was a pretty common set, so does anyone have the newer instructions which
show these changes? If so, will you please reply with photos or scans showing
the changes in the instructions? Or, does anyone have the redesigned set with
its instructions who can verify that no new instructions were included?

Thank you in advance for any assisance.

Is the only difference that 8459 indicates a dark bluish gray base -or- is there
a voltage difference? I have one to list but don't know which it is.

I have in my possession, 2 Duplo Horses which are not in the catalogue, but they
are clearly marked as LEGO.

1 is a black one, essentially the same as this:-

Part No: horse02c01pb01 Name: Duplo Horse with Movable Head with Silver Mane, Saddle, and Hearts Pattern
*
horse02c01pb01 Duplo Horse with Movable Head with Silver Mane, Saddle, and Hearts Pattern
Parts: DUPLO, Animal

but has no hearts on it's left flank.

The second is a white one, with no extra markings except around the eye, which
are eyelashes, making the horse look quite feminine(?)

I have no idea as to what sets they would have come in, but looking at the listings
of this type of horse, we have the one with the hearts on it's flank, in
Black, and White, and the white one has a 'saddle' print which is not
the same as the Black one, so maybe a separate listing needs to be done for that
one?

I'll see if I can produce images for these two, but be aware that I can't
get them to be re-sized enough to be used, as I'm not computer savvy enough
for that.

Can anyone verify what I'm saying?

Paul

I am incrementally becoming more confused about the issue of catalog dimensions.

I know that bricks are supposed to be stored as studs. and set/books/gear are
stored as cm.

When I look at the catalog page for

Part No: 3003 Name: Brick 2 x 2
*
3003 Brick 2 x 2
Parts: Brick
I see 'Size: 2 x 2 x 1 in studs'

When I look at the catalog page for

Part No: 3437 Name: Duplo, Brick 2 x 2
*
3437 Duplo, Brick 2 x 2
Parts: DUPLO, Brick
I see 'Size: 2 x 2 x 1 in studs'

When I look at the dimensions in a catalog XML file I see (for both) …
ITEMDIMX 2 /ITEMDIMX
ITEMDIMY 2 /ITEMDIMY
ITEMDIMZ 1 /ITEMDIMZ

When I look at the values beneath an actual listed lot (3003) I see: 16mm 11.2mm
16mm

When I look at the values beneath an actual listed lot (3437) I see: 32mm 23.6mm
32mm

So that suggests that the XML download file does not actually represent the values
being used by IC … or does it? I don't mind the values I'm receiving,
but I would like access to the real numbers as well.

Hi all, I’ve got an additional instruction sheet that appears to supersede the
printed instructions in the sets booklet. It’s just a single page, printed on
one side. I’ve attached a photo...

Is there a way to add this to the catalog?

Thanks in advance

When you type brickheadz in the search box, only 7 sets popup. You can then
click on the hyperlink for brickheadz to see all of the sets listed on BL, but
seems like they should all popup with the keyword search.

The following link is what you see when you put in the keyword "brickheadz"
https://www.bricklink.com/v2/search.page?q=brickheadz#T=S

Hi

can someone explain me why there is a difference, when i look at part 3004 for
example, beetween the colours in the price guide column and the "known colours"
column?
In my opinion, there should be more colours (or egal number) in the known colours
columnthan in the price guide info. It looks like some colours are unknown but
stores are selling them...
May be the answer could be that the known colours column is not update... If
someone can help me,thank you.

A quick question: How do i identify whether a window has an extended lip or not?
such as on item number 31, there are multiple different similar mold types and
apart from the stud differences im not seeing where this "lip" is.

I have a ton of vintage parts to list and have ground to a halt at the first
hurdle.

Also I'm not sure how to hyperlink to the exact page of the item. I would
be very grateful if anyone could show me that also!

Many thanks in advance.

It would be nice if we could have "Micro Minifigures" as a new minifigure type
or part type. There is no way how to filter them today. The "micro" is not even
mentioned in their names.

Would be nice if we could filter them and if someone want´s to buy many different
ones he can simply filter and search by that item type.

I assume this part should be made available in the catalog as I have seen at
least 1 other person selling as "blocked open stud".

We have a team participating in the First Lego League competition, where there
are clear rules that we should be using original lego parts with no customizations.

I have found parts in the brick link lego catalog that appear to be entirely
original lego parts (I am able to find them in the official lego catalog), however
they are listed with a qualifier of "modified", for example:

Brick, Modified 2 x 24 with Peg at each End

My question is, what does "Modified" mean in the brick link catalog? Does it
mean that it has been modified from its original condition, or that in some way
it is not an original lego part?

I was wondering what the other set of numbers on a brick were for?

For example, on a lime green 2x4 brick (randomly pulled from a bin I'm working
through) there is the seriel number "3001" which defines what piece it is.

Then, in the other corner is another set of numbers "6-251"

Is this anything useful to us sellers? Is it just something to do with the date/factory/machine
it was manufactured on?

I don't suppose it tells me what colour the brick is? My word, that would
be so helpful! Telling medium blue from maersk blue or dark pink from magenta
isn't always easy!

I have a Qui-Gon sw027 with a slight mis-aligned print, making him look a bit
shifty, how should I go about listing / pricing this? Do I just put a comment
with the standard minifig listing?

Thanks

Part No: 34738 Name: Train, Track Roller Coaster Ramp Small, 3 Bricks Elevation

Part No: 26559 Name: Train, Track Roller Coaster Ramp Large Lower Part, 6 Bricks Elevation
*
26559 Train, Track Roller Coaster Ramp Large Lower Part, 6 Bricks Elevation
Parts: Train, Track

"Elevation" is the increase or decrease of height a roller coaster car gains
by rolling up or down a ramp, right?

Then the elevation of these parts is 3 respectively 6 bricks. Not 3 1/3 respectively
6 1/3 bricks.

The higher ramps are exactly many times higher than the small ramp. One big ramp
consisting of parts 26560 and 26559 has the same elevation than four 34738 ramps.

With the elevation specified in the name of the parts, this would not fit:
2 x 6 1/3 = 12 2/3
4 x 3 1/3 = 13 1/3

The correct elevation is:
2 x 6 = 12
4 x 3 = 12

Kind regards,

Matthias

Hi there, I recently bought (what looks to be) a very old Lego carry case made
from Globite. I can't find any details on it on the net, and I was hoping
you guys might be able to help me identify it. It looks to be from the 70s or
80s not 100% sure. Thanks
