Brickset has the part total listed as 3096, but that could be wrong. Also, Stefaan
checked the set against sealed set contents but only made one change (to add

Hi
I bought this box here on BL when the auctions were still alive (was in 2008).
I did a part out (all parts in my set no longer the old grey but the new grey),
got a lot of work ~never understood why no 10030-2 was created with the new grey~
Still a few left over parts and believe it or not but did not see that alternate
part at that time, so found it in 2014 and did the change

You actually added those as extras back in 2009. Are you sure I should get rid
of them? This set seems to be right at the transition time for these parts from
what I am finding, so maybe your set did not have them on sprue.
There are two versions of this set, one with the large Octan sticker (shown in
the unboxing link I posted) and one without. Maybe yours is the one without,
and the version without that sticker had no sprues. If so, I would like to set
up alternates.
Any help with this would be appreciated.

Just checked my set, was build up straight from the MISB and never broken down.
Found in the box the used stickersheet (165345), the plastic bag and the catalog
109883-EU-OS (from 1993).
When I build up this set I leave also a small note with this info:
extra parts:
* 1x Trans-Light Blue Minifigure Visor (2447)
* 1x Black Plate, Round 1 x 1 (4073)
* 1x Trans-Yellow Plate, Round 1 x 1 (4073)
I can not remember this set came with the 4073 on sprue. The 4073 are like they
came on a sprue. But think they came already factory separated.
My set came with the 2412b.

Note: got 2 when I was a kid, still have the sprues. One of the sets I remember

- the grooves can be seen on the set image on the box and instructions - plus this is about 6 years after the grooved version was introduced, in a common color

As I see 2412a (without groove) was spotted in sets till 1997. In 1994 it is
reported from 7 sets less than "b" variant but still founded. "b" variant was
first notice in 1990. So this set is in mold change period so it is possible
that there could be copies od this set with "a" or "b" variant. Red one "a" is
noted
still in 1994 sets.

I forget to write this sentence in first post
"Set images, box images and instruction are not good source for checking parts
variants. Do you have proof from more reliable source?"
When searching for better proofs to this change request I found this (photo attached).
I know this is no proof according to our standards for aproving parts variants
requests, just used set from auction site could be easly tampered, missing parts
replaced without knowledge of parts variants, but there are both variants for
blue of this part Just wanted to show that it is not so simple. Better proof
for it would be from sealed one (this could be hard to found) or for example
also from own collection where is submiter (owner of set) certain that parts
weren't never messed with other sets and he bought it as sealed one personaly
even many years ago. Such proof also could be considered as good and accepted.

The baseplates should be part of set inventory, they are being used in the builds. Also this is consistent with other sets with this storage bin.

Wow, that's a new one for me. The red and white bricks are directly in front
of and behind the driver, so they're fairly visible. Why TLG would think
it was necessary to replace perfectly good standard bricks with Technic bricks
in these locations is definitely a mystery.
In light of this new evidence, feel free to resubmit the requests and we will
reconsider them.

In my opinion
should be added to this set as alternate only to
Older one with "thin support" is still in many sets from 2011 and even 2012 and
then stops showing. I even have 53989 from 2012 set
8679 is from 2011. So it is very probably that in this sets can both variants
be found.

It has been documented. The set inventory has been updated with the changes
you found and an inventory note was added. And yes, it's not too terribly
uncommon. There are over 100 known sets from as recently as last year which
have been redesigned for various reasons while the set was still in production.
I have asked for BrickLink to give us the ability to find these sets in the catalog.
So far, though, nothing has happened with my request.

Then all sellers would left with incomplete minifigs in such inventory changed
minifig listnings. This was also very old set, wrong minifig was long in the
catalog and also more extensive change this was than only change part variant
being already in minifig for example.

Why? Well both minifigs are no longer in any other set. Now we have -a and -b
versions but the 'without -a -b' version is no longer available (already
marked for del.).

These cones are already included in the set inventory and should not be duplicated on the minifig. There are only 2 trans-yellow cones included in the box.

As it is now neither inventory of set or minifg is correct. Yes you have right
cones are now both in minifig and set.
So the best way in my opinion would be submit whole minifigs with backpack for
this set and delete parts for backpacks from set inventory.

BTW I can correct it, if it need it. I have yellow one, just modify sp053a and
black one I can construct I think

Both red cones need to be deleted in the inventory and add to the minifig
[m=sp053] because this one doesn't have them in the inv. like the black one.
The cones are good visible on the instructions. (the yellow ones on the black
minifig, the red ones on the yellow minifig)
Then we have an inv. like minifigs as and with a lot of
extra parts.
(sp053 is only in this set)
