* Add 1 Part 973px126newc01 White Torso Paradisa Windsurf Board with Sunset Pattern, Inside with Ribs (Reissue) / Yellow Arms / Yellow Hands

May I ask what the difference is on this 'Inside with ribs' torsos compared
to the same torsos that are 10 years old?

It ain't clear on the images (no comparison image between 'old' version

Just what is EDT?

Please use GMT - that is understood worldwide.

WBR
Sonnich

Should be EST, daylight savings time hasn't started yet. And using GMT isn't
going to work with everyone, not everyone knows where they live in relation to
GMT. EST is -5 hours for example.

So us, 'CET' guys are therefor 'forced' to remember that EST
is -5 compared to GMT and since CET is currently at +1 GMT we need to add that
up to know that the difference is 6 Hours between EST and CET
Me thinks your explanation makes no sence whatsoever, particulary as there are
more BL users 'outside' the EST zone then BL members living 'in'
the EST zone
It's just an outdated feature, most sites run in each 'propper' timezone...

people who naively jump at the chance to send unsecured payments to strangers
who have listed items online at too-good-to-be-true prices.

Quite right: too many people are just naive in those regards...
I recently got a mail that I considered 'strange', after reading about
10 words I dropped it in the trash can.
2 days later the receivers have been notified it was a 'test' and the
results where this:
Out of near 6000 receivers, 668 people (so over 10%) tought they could actually
'cash in' a bit of money for free by replying to the mail, about 2% actually
even provided 'personal details' in the reply.
Crazy...
Compare this to a website like BL with 613000 registered users, and you have
12260 users who might actually fall for such crap. Even if the amount of 'active
users' is only 20% of the registered members (so 122600) there is still a
potential of 2450 members who'd jump right in on offers that are 'too
good to be true'.

I disagree. Sellers only need concern themselves with their country's export
laws, not the import laws of every country they ship to.

Reasonably sure that's not true.

Correct, sellers do need to know 'some' stuff about the country they
are 'exporting' to, as of certain thresholds (mainly over 15~18000 Euro),
they might need to 'register' in the 'receiving' country to avoid
'issues'. But the chances anyone here is exporting more then 15~18000
Euro (per year) to 1 country is quite slim...
Besides that one needs to know what is allowed and what not (not just talking
about palstic toys here), and how it needs to be presented... (return label on
front or back, CN22/CN23, invoices/billings needed above 800 Euro, pro-forma
bills, etc, etc)
Limiting oneself to 'I only need to know what my country expects/allows'
is not good enough.
So it's handy to have a forum, quite a good place to pick up some details
from other countries once in a while

Nice little cash cow postal services have there…

The 'cash cow' ain't the postal services, it's 'customs'aka
governments), the postal services just run (aka advance it) on behalf on the
person they have to deliver it to, so yes you pay the 'postal service'
as they deliver it, but they already paid it to 'customs'.
In Belgium, Bpost even sometimes charges a cost (depending on the 'advanced'
amount) for doing the 'advanced' payment to the customs department...
Add the VAT, add handling, add 'duty' and it can be a 'killer'...
And it's no longer a 'slight chance', it's quite 'systematic'
in the whole of the EU these days, they know the have a 'cash cow' so
they are willing to pay extra personal on it

Now where on earth did you read all those EU countries do not charge duty (or
import taxes, or VAT or whatever you wanna call it)on toys
All the EU countries you state *can* charge 'import taxes' and as a matter
off fact they frequently do, the threshold for free import troughout the EU is
22 Euro, every order above that value is subject for 'import costs and/or
VAT' depending on value and content (and always a 'handling' cost
on top *if* they process the shipment).

We used to have just 1 or 2 or 3 'payment methods' but as time goes by,
new payment methods are added to the site and one can only suspect this might
even grow in time.

Yet our 'invoice' template remains quantity '1'.
Now every 'payment method' has it's characteristics, and this implicates
that the 'template data' (whatever it contains) must be 'altered'
when sending an invoice.
Obviously the details in the invoice will differ when the payment method changes:
Paypal (manual and/or a link), paypal onsite (Pay button), IBAN (Iban/Bic details),
Stripe (PAY link), Cash(no COD): Provide cash on pickup, Money order: Please
to...

Basicly, sellers need to keep their 'head' together when sending an invoice...
and even if they have a 'template' containing all options, they still
need to remove/add lines to make it clear for buyers 'what' they need
to do.

The easiest solution: A template for each 'payment method'. It's
2017, where getting closer to 2020, time to evolve and time to add some features
that are 'usefull' IMHO

Thanks for reading
And pleas vote 'YES' (even if you don't need it right now)

Cheers, Eric

PS In todays I-net, not 'evolving' means moving 'backwards',
as the competition doesn't sit around doing 'nothing'.

to drop off after so many years and or each year. Everyone knows we get unfounded
feed back especially from new buyers.

NO...
Old feedbacks, including negatives and neutrals, can give you an idea on who
your dealing with and tell buyers whether there is 'pattern' when something
goes wrong.
If BL would purge those negatives and neutrals, then they would need to do that
for all sellers, do you really want that ? (showing 1 example in the screenshot
below, I could give a couple of dozens like that)?

You seem to be bothered by the few negatives you carry? Why? You've had near
4000 transactions, with 3 negatives, that's less then 1 per 1300 transactions,
neglectible
And I doubt buyers will hold it against you when they need to determine whether
or not they wanna buy from you...

I just had a buyer from three states away claim that he sent cash in the mail.

He 'claims'...
So I suspect you didn't get it (yet) and that he's getting worried...

While this seems very risky to me,

That would depend on 'how' it was send, sending cash requires a certain
amount of 'intelligent' wrapping so that it ain't 'obvious'
it's cash...
Bills alot of dark paper will do the trick
Coins glued with tape and between cardboard.
The latter remains a problem if it goes trough 'scanners' (for airplanes
and such)

he did indeed select "Cash (no COD)" as a
payment type even though that option states that it is for local pickup only.

I even got a couple of 'international' ones, without any hastle, but
those where 'bills' only (and invisably wrapped by the buyer).

Since there is no way to actually enforce local pickup, I didn't realize
this until after he mailed the money, frankly because I've never had anyone
do this before!

Don't consider it 'unique'

I accept lots of cash payments from members of my LUG, but it
doesn't usually occur outside of that.

Once had someone send me a 'ton' of coins between cardboard, I suspected
him to be a minor emptying his 'piggy bank' , it arrived, I shipped,
no hastle

Can we get BrickLink to only accept "Cash" payments on an order if that buyer's
postal code is on a seller-selected list? I don't know how postal codes
work in other countries, but in the US (and Canada to, I think) the zip code
gets more specific as you go from left to right. So for example, using wildcard
characters, I could allow cash payments from anyone in Lincoln, NE with a single
entry: 685**.

Sounds complicated, as BL would need to split the 'national buyers' into
thousands of states and provinces all around the world, with the option the be
able to select 'multiple' regions in 'multiple' countries (I've
had international buyers picking up orders because they only live about 100 miles
away - I'm in a small country-)

Thoughts?

Deactivate 'Cash' if you don't want the hastle, people who wanna
pickup will usually send a mail anyway after seeing your address (and usually
that is *after* they already made the purchase), so just leave in a non instant
payment method (Paypal onsite 'only' would be a problem)

In all fairness to myself: the item number at the end of the existing entry is
wrong, it is possibly inventoried in the wrong sets (unless included as an alternate,
since both sets had their own instruction booklets), it does not have the 1090/1092
identifiers in the item number or title, the year is missing, and the title does
not include the words written on the front of the booklet. All of these things
together made it difficult to locate and I've submitted change requests to
fix the entry.

But I'm only making excuses, am I not? I have failed and can certainly understand
your disappointment in seeing your hero stagger drunkenly away from perfection
toward ineptitude.

It is the ultimate disappointment when it comes down to your catalog actions,
it is extremely frustrating seeing someone mess up the catalog like that, 'sorry'
is not an acceptable excuse, you should now stop contributions for the rest of
the year and meditate about it, then come back next year and start with an apology,
then 'maybe', just 'maybe' we'll forgive. BUT: we're
not going to forget (just to be clear)

Set No: 10187 Name: Volkswagen Beetle (VW Beetle)

10187-1 (Inv) Volkswagen Beetle (VW Beetle)
1626 Parts, 2008
Sets: Sculptures

* Add 8 Part 4085b Medium Blue Plate, Modified 1 x 1 with Clip Vertical - Type 2 (thin U clip) (match ID 1)
* Change 8 Part Medium Blue 4085d Plate, Modified 1 x 1 with Clip Vertical - Type 4 (thick open O clip) {Regular to Alternate} {match ID 0 to 1}

Comments from Submitter:
I currently have 3 original Used copies of this set. Each was purchased from its original owner. All 3 versions have the "Thin U Clip" variant (Part 4085b) of all 8 Medium Blue Plate Modified 1x1 with Clip Vertical. This coincides with its appearance in the Grand Carousel that same year. Some of the last produced copies might contain part variant 4085d, but I believe these to be extremely rare. Please change this variant appearance to Alternate.

If you look at the logs, the 'regular' and 'alternate' have been
changed 3 times so far (and so this is the 4th one *sigh*).
How hard can it be to 'invetory' a set with a certain type (first one
found by the sumitter of the inventory), and then simply add alternates along
the way

The b, c, d, versions of this part are being found randomly in sets and there
isn't a clear call as to 'when' LEGO uses them, as it depends which
'plant' produces them and 'where' TLG stocks them...
I found all 'd' types in my copy of the winter holiday train, except
1, which was a 'b' type. I assume a few where at the bottom of TLG's
storage box... Why? because TLG doesn't differentiate them and put's
tem all together

Have you read the notes on the inventory?

Yes I have, but as I said this is not quite right. The original minifigure has
the solid stud head, and the newest ones had the blocked open stud

The notes say that early copies have the solid stud head, so it's the same
as you said, just differently worded.

As far as I know, minifigs are inventoried with the first head they are 'found'
with.
This means that if someone finds it with a 'b' type head first, then
the fig get's inventoried with that head (alltough it is possible many more
figs are found with the 'c'type head). Occasionaly figs are found with
a 'c' type, and later on people find the 'b' type of heads, but
the figs remain with 'c' type, as that's how they are first found
with...
Following that logic, the 'a' type was 'before' the 'b'
type, so the first one found, is 'a' type, the 'b' type for this
particular fig came much much later. It has only been recently BL inventory admins
started to approve changes from 'b' to 'a' type 'still whished
there would be the 'alternate' head option), so from a logic point of
view the request should be 'approved' by the IA's and the cadmins
should change the note towards Y2K re-issues would carry a 'blocked open
stud', as it would better fit the timeline and current 'policy' on
the heads.

my 2 cents

at checkout it would be so much more streamlined and convenient for everyone.

I am fully prepared and ready to handle payment at checkout, I already give my
buyer the maximum they will be charged for shipping in my terms (and yes, I never
charge more than my terms state, even if I would lose money). Therefore, the
buyer already knows the cost of their order at checkout, why can't they pay
at checkout?

Cob

I would be happy, if I could receive the order, determine the shipping/etc, and
then trigger an On-Site payment request. That would meet pretty much 100% of
my needs.

What do you mean? That's what Paypal Onsite is.

Never mind, I think Ray stopped reading about new features in 2014

Sorry, Ray, but in another thread people already explained to you that there
is no involvemend between BL and PP, it is simply a sellers setting, you 'hook'
your Paypal account to your store and offer your buyers a 'PAY' button,
the rest is API calls between BL and PP
An API works like a phonecall:
BL dials PP
Hi PP, this is BL, we have one of our members who bought from one of our sellers,
and we would like to use your service to do the payment transaction.
PP: OK, send us the details...
BL: Sellers PP email is:xxxxx, amount is xxx, currency is xx
PP: OK, thanks, we'll send the details to the buyer for confirmation.
PP: hello buyer, please login in and press confirm on this 'presetted'
transaction.
Buyer (logs in): OK, go ahead
PP hangs up and calls BL
PP: Hi BL, payment has been transferred, order can be set as 'paid'.
BL: Thank you, we'll do so right away...

This is what 'PP onsite' is about, I stopped using 'regular PP'
And buyers still 'mess up' because not all sellers are using this method

and so buyers don't get 'used' to it (reason they mess up)

You did and it works but how many people would know that.

At least 1 more now
It also works with the asterix btw
So if you're unsure of the number, or the 'mold' ain't important,
then simply type the asterix behind it
Black 4085* for example...

It certainly isn't in the help section.

well, some things simply aren't

It would be much easier if the colour filter was added to
the page. Simple amendment to the page and code. It is nothing more than an 'AND'
clause as CCBricks has added to Goatleg to help find heads and torso's.

So easy to do and would be so helpful

Granted it can be a burdon to type the exact color name, particulary for long
colornames
So an additional filter for the color might be a nice thing indeed

I would like to suggest a way of preventing this. Maybe we can have an option

[ ] reserve items in a quote to be reserved for that specific buyer

Maybe this options should be ENABLED for everyone by default (new and existing
stores).

Saso

* or am I missing something?

Voted No.
As with any items in a store, first one who check out gets the item...
Automaticly reserving something for a buyer has the inconveniance that an item
is 'blocked' for other buyers, nice, but not all buyers 'getting
a quote' check out, so during that time items would be 'blocked'
(imagine the potential abuse by competitor sellers of certain items).
What needs to be changed on BL is that when an item from an existing quoted cart
has been purchased by another buyer, the existing cart is simply 'adjusted'
and the potential buyer would need to be able to checkout on the cart 'minus'
the item(s) that went to another buyer.
Such functionality works perfect on BO, BL just hasn't figured out 'how'
to implement it after near 2 years now...

there has been a time when MSRP was 'mentioned' in the menus, I'm
glad (and many others with me) it got removed. MSRP is different in different
parts of the world and is only a guideline / valid when a set is still *actively*
running. Once it's end-of-life it becomes irrelevant what MSRP *used to be*,
so it would require active 'control' over the database and the priceguide
and even that wouldn't be accurate, as end-of-life ain't equal in all
regions at the same time... So it's falsified data that has no place whatsoever
on a selling website, such data is available on 'non commercial' websites,
quite fine IMHO.

Then any message from any member send on bricklink will also be send to your

From there you can reply to the 'contacts' e-mail and attach pictures...

And from buyers you have the e-mail in your order form, so you can simply copy
it on BL and paste it in your mailerbrowser and send a mail, including pictures...

Easy

I set up an account for my wife. So it has the same shipping address. She never
uses it. I created it to see what the buyer's experience is like in my store
when it first opened. Is this frowned upon?

No...
and yes...

For startes, BL allows 'individuals' to have each their account, so within
a household it is perfectly possible husband and wife (or husband and husband
or wife and wife) to have each their account, even an adult 'kid' of
both can have his/her account.
And as a matter of fact, I know several households who each have their account
and some even their own shop... There are also members who have accounts which
are registered differently, one as an individual, one as a 'company',
also perfectly possible.
It is clear these situations must be mentioned to the adminstration, to avoid
conflicts, particulary in regards to IP matching...

Now your case seems a bit different... The secondary account is in your wifes
name, but she didn't actually opened the account, you did, as you clearly
state 'I set up' and 'I created' and 'she never uses it',
so technicly it is not 'her' account, it is your account and you just
used her name (hopefully with her consent, otherwise it's theft of identity
LOL), so the purpose of that account is in conflict with the ToS. I would strongly
suggest to shut down that account (= unregister), particulary if it was only
for testing purposes when you first opened, so not much point to keep it around
anyway

Is that what happens? I thought that both the feedbacks stayed, and the seller
ended up with 2 positives (from themselves). That is what used to happen. (And,
of course, that's even worse than what you describe.)

As far as I know, they do stay, unless something changed in those regards since
the site upgrade, or unless one of the admins was proactive about it (while IMO
they shouldn't).

In thee case of the person who prompted this suggestion, I think that they removed
both feedbacks themselves after the problem was noted in that thread.

That is indeed the other option, but both? And *after* the merge (or was it done
before the merge)? The feedback removal system allows to choose 'feedback
I posted', but if an account was merged in the mean while, does it mean both
feedbacks are removed at the same time, or only the one as a seller (as the main
account would be the seller). I'd love to find out, but without active testing
(which would imply to create another account), it won't be easy to figure
it out

Regardless, I agree with the suggestion.

Ditto

--
Marc.

This means that potential buyers won't likely know of it to avoid shopping
in that particular store.

My suggestion is that when such a merge includes feedback that it becomes a negative
with a standardized BL comment.

* Sure you can see the merge history though it does not necessarily mean poor
intentions.

P.S. My only concern is that it may be pointless as the member would just create
a different account to sell under. Thoughts?

All instructions that include this minifigure depict the solid stud version of this head. No evidence to suggest the blocked open stud version was ever used.

I wouldn't go by images too much and rather stick to 'owned sets'
before making such changes. Images are made months before actual release and
setlayouts are made from 'stock' items of the designers, but that doesn't
mean there can't be a differences 'in production'

I suggest you have a look here, to stick to the timeline in regards to head versions:

http://www.leggodt.nl/items/lego/themes-minifigs.php?language=en

And that timeline is pretty accurate when compared to actual setcontents

Comments from Submitter:
I built per the instructions on lego.com, and went through them again, I only used 13 of these to complete the build

There seems to be 2 versions of this set, look at the changes made in 2006 (1413)
and 2008(1314)
I agree that based on available instructions there are only 13, but considering
the changes (and alternates) made in 2008, there is most likely a variant set
needing some other parts.

I would leave it like that untill a real comparison is made and it might be wise
to add a note to the inventory about it.

Great picture. Thanks!

And I like the title change for the entry marked for deletion. It certainly
makes the pending deletion much more attention-grabbing beyond just an additional
note.

Agreed. And maybe it should also say superseded by a new entry...

My only concern regarding the new sticker entry would be the additional note
which equates cm to stud measurement, which are two different measurements.

yes noticed that as well, but it's not the first time sheets are being mismeasured,
I noticed a couple of people submit in cm, in stead of stud dimensions. Why on
earth is it stud dimensipons anyway on stickersheets, you don't measure an
instruction or box either in 'studs'
But I assume it's because stickers are still considered 'parts' (sigh)
and it's the main configuration of 'parts' that sets the dimensions
to 'stud' size.

To RobErNat: I found that incomplete image on BrickShelf and did not have permission
to use it for a catalog entry. I only posted it so that people would know what
I was referring to.

Oh, OK, I thought it was yours
So good Maggie was around then, she found the ultimate 'gem' then I suppose

Thanks for finding that, it makes the perfect "model" for what to say in the

Wasn't hard to find, as the note was added by either you or Ronald based
on my findings on that one

So it was just a matter of remembering where we had a similar case before

Thanks !

now I need to remember another one

Hmm, you would think, wouldn't you? I just had a look at the instructions,
and they only show the sticker being applied to one side. So to me it
is ambiguous, as it could be considered implicit that it is one both sides because
of the existence of the other sticker and the fact that the back of the assembly
is visible on the built stable.

Yes, I saw that as well, but to me it ain't conclusive as TLG did not always
indicate to put stickers both side (they only start doing that later on), but
when looking at other assemblies the same thing is 'suggestive'
[p=BA17pb01]

(I didn't check whether there are images showing both sides)

If we don't get more concrete evidence one
way or another, we could add a note to the entry for sellers to indicate whether
they have the sticker on one or both sides.

Yes, that would be nice, something similar to:

So it's not really solving the matter
Why not add the picture you posted before?

Obviously incomplete, but it's not the only sheet like that in catalog.

And, it could also be 'altered' quite easely

Maggie

Hi Maggie,
Thanks for pointing towards it.
I cleared my browser history, logged off and in again, now it shows properly
for me (nice image btw), if others have the same error they might need to do
the same thing.

so problem solved on the image

While where at it
I have an unlisted
[p=BA06pb02]
However mine comes with stickers both sides (as there are 2 stickers on the sheet)

Part No: 6379stk01 Name: Sticker Sheet for Set 6379 - (190165)
*
6379stk01 Sticker Sheet for Set 6379 - (190165)
Parts: Sticker Sheet

However the entry for the assembly does not say 'both sides' (stickers).
Another seller is also selling with stickers both sides.
Is it plausible this assembly should have stickers both sides.

Why were these added as non-stickered versions? Do they exist that way?

Originally yes, they came undecorated with the stickers on a sheet. So they are
no different then more recent stickered minifigs.
So this is just a matter of building consitancy in the catalog, regardeless of
the fact whether it is usefull.

  In Suggestions, StormChaser writes:
Perhaps I was not clear enough on what is occurring.

I would've saved myself some extra work if I had given these reasons in my
initial post:

1. There is no accountability when multiple people use the same account
to make catalog changes/additions. Is it okay for me to give my password to
a handful of trusted BrickLink members so that StormChaser may be used as a group
account for catalog contributions? How will anyone know if it's me or RobErNat
submitting something to the catalog?

1. Thanks for (still) considering me as a trusted BL member I feel honered
reading that from you
2.It would only amplify the issue, as RobErNat technicly *might* be accessed
by 3 people if one checkes my 'ME' page

2. The person making catalog changes/additions does not get credit for
the contributions when multiple people use the same account for catalog work.

True

3. The Admin account being used was not originally a pool account to
the best of my knowledge. It was an account/username used exclusively by a single
person (Daniel Jezek). Therefore, nearly all of the catalog contributions currently
credited to Admin were made not by a collective, but by a single person.

True, and a long time ago, when Admin Eric became Admin I suggested to have a
clear seperation between Admin Dan's account and Admin Eric's account,
this was not done, and next Admins just kept using the same account...

4. Dan's contributions have a higher value, I would argue, than contributions
of others. They show his intentions for the site, among other reasons.

Agreed.

5. I hope that when I die BrickLink members will have the courtesy not
to use my account to make contributions to the catalog. I feel like it would
diminish the work I did while alive. This is a nice way of saying that I feel
it's morally wrong to use the Admin account to make any catalog contributions
whatsoever.

Personally I wouldn't mind if one day my son (for instance) would take over
my account (and technicly he is allowed, as he's being part of the username
since many years), but I would indeed be favorable to a clear 'break'
on contributions/owner runnings between more then one accountholder. Right now,
the BL system isn't set up for that however...
This issue has been raised in the past when SimplyBricks was Inventory Admin:
Simply Bricks is being runned by 2 people: Emma, the IA and Mike, the second
person behind the SimplyBricks account with his own opinions as a pretty regular
member, always clearly identified by his signature, but also always 'tagged'
as being an IA (because the ID card said so), while he was not...

I'm sure there are other reasons which I'm too tired to think of at the
moment.

Responsability, credebility, legacy.
Analyse everything on those words, and you'll have *all* the anwsers

Sure
Use Brickstock, import your order, edit it, reupload in your store, takes about
2 minutes (depending on how much you wanna edit it).

Forgot to say, if you use Brickstock, you need to use 'demo' mode and
you will need to setup your Bricklink access (username and password) in Brickstock
to make it work.

According to a doublecheck on another database which pulls it's data from
TLG, the OP is right.

How do you know that TLG's box image is wrong but their inventory data is
right
The OP worked "with the inventory listed in the instructions". These printed
inventories have been shown to be wrong in many instances (as well as some box
images). The OP should answer Russell's question.

Read my statement again. I did not state 'I Know', I stated 'according'

I agree that there are many users that think they are ordering a set, when they buy a box.

Is that linked to the fact an original box would be listed as being 'new',
or is that linked to the fact the 'standard description' isn't explicit
enough?

Let me rephrase: Say a brand new user ends up browings here and finds

Original Box No: 10189 Name: Taj Mahal
*
10189-1 Taj Mahal
Original Boxes: Sculptures
Listed used...
The seller is smart enough to state it's an EMPTY box, but what if he didn't,
do you think the potential buyer will KNOW that it's not a full set because
it's listed 'used' ?
Can we assume that the buyer would 'snatch' it because for him the price
seems reasonable for such a set?
The fact it is listed used doesn't make a difference, it's the description
that fails, and it would take BL 2 minutes to add the word empty between original
and box to solve that particular issue: original(empty)box
Luckely the seller here is smart enough to state it himself.

OK, so a set with broken seals ain't 'new' either? According to the
classification BL gives, such a set is still 'new', it's just no
longer sealed. So technicly, an open 'new' box *with content* is still
considered 'new', but an empty one would not be 'new', because
you took out the lego
Now I'm pretty sure every seller with a 'seals broken' set, actually
took out the LEGO to check the content, then placed it back in, so as 'used'
set then (soon 1 item is used, a whole set becomes used)
This is nitpicking and leads us nowhere IMHO, as long as there are no real issues
between buyers and sellers because of it (think I've never seen a complaint
about such on the forum and I've been around for a while now). I really don't
see the point of discussing it, as long as there aren't frequent complaints.

I would like to suggest that the NEW classification for empty boxes be removed.
They just do not exist (maybe on an extremely rare occasion) but people still
keep listing them as new. For the people who think they are correct in listing
as new I challenge you to answer this question. What was used to contain the
particular Lego set you parted out ? Hint..... it was the box. It was USED for
a purpose.. Looking at the price guide it seems like people buy the incorrectly
listed as new more often than the honestly listed boxes. I just feel it is an
unfair advantage for those who are misleading with their new designation.

Ed

Following that reasoning, we should also classify all parts from a set 'used',
as prior to final wrapping parts are only handled by machines (mainly). Once
sets move out of factory, they get tossed, so the parts start rubbing against
eachother, then to part them out, we pour out the bags on a table and then we
sort and handle the parts, then they go in storage, some might move out fast,
others will remain in stock for ages, but are still 'moved' around when
picking other parts (depending on how people store). In the end, a part **might**
not be flawless anymore because of it... But we still sell 'new'. So
why would a pristine and carefully opened box no longer be 'new' while
parts from that same set might have scratches if longer time in storage...
The intent is to classify, that's it, if pristine, I see nothing wrong with
'new' for a box, just in the same we sell 'new' sets (and which
might have shelfwear, oftenly not even mentioned by sellers).
So 'No' for me, I'm actually more worried about the quality of 'used'
items, as it seems A LOT of sellers don't even bother stating an actual condition
(or lack quality control), particulary on more expensive sets, boxes, instructions,
parts and minifigs, so what am I buying? A used but very good condition item,
or one with damage/tears/discolorisation/bitemarks

Comments from Submitter:
Checked the items with the original instructions and several changes need to be done.

A year ago I made a full detailed list of what needed to be changed.

Why didn't you submit the changes

   I bought
a sealed set and found obscene number of error. It seems the original submitter
looked at the picture and tried to make a list as LEGO didn't release instruction
for this set. (They still haven't released it even though they have released
many other 4000xx sets)

Doesn't mean the actual content couldn't be found, clearly TLG did allow
download of inventory content, as other websites display the inventory correctly
(at first sight).

Well, don't blame you, technology is here to make us nice and lazy,

Not really to make use lazy, bit rather organised. If you know excell a bit,
you know you can have several coloms, lines, but also multiple pages, with inventory
management it's a bit like that, people wanna be able to seperate things
one from another and the more 'pages' the easier it is to manage, because
the organisation is better

   so any
way in which it can do that is welcome of course But if setting remarks is
tedious, then maybe that is the root problem? So the solution is faster / better
interfaced inventory management & manipulation rather than just an arbitrary
number of extra stockrooms?

remarks ain't enough, to be honest, I would also like an active and non active
quantity option, that way I would know what I have as 'real' quantity,
compared to 'listed for sale' quantity, while now I use the remarks field
for that (anyway, I assume that's just whisfull thinking LOL)
Back to the stockrooms:
Fact is, from within your inventory, you can choose in what stockroom you wanna
work: All, A, B, or C, but with a multitude of items in all 3: parts, figs,
sets, *and* in condition used and new, one would at least need 6, but adding
personal inventory would most likely double that for me, so I would be extremely
happy with stockrooms A-M (considering gear/boxes/instructions), or better: 26
of them, A-Z Technicly whether you have 3 or 26 it hardly changes anyting
in the amount of data, it's just a matter of being able to organise more

Ohh I see, yes, the retain function could have its own stockroom, I can see the
added functionality in that. But as for the others, can't you just use the

It's possible, but it's not easy. I like easy.

I'm always curious about this multiple stockrooms thing, what exactly is
its purpose? I mean, something is either on offer or it is not, that's a
binary thing, and remarks already allow you to assign any manner of tags. So
why multiple stockrooms? (We already have 3 so apparently it's useful but
it just escapes me )

Stockroom A automatically gets filled with lots that are sold-out.

Stockroom B, I use to move stuff into that I plan on using for one of my own
projects. (I don't want to delete the lots in case I change my mind.)

Stockroom C, I use for stuff that I have uploaded but not made live yet (because
I haven't checked the prices, etc).

Stockroom D, I use for ... wait... there is not stockroom D. So, Stockroom C
I also use for lots which I am temporarily taking down because I am going to
a live show where I will be selling, and I don't want to double-sell.

Stockroom E, I move stuff that sold out (from A) that I want as a reminder to
myself to restock.

Stockroom F, I just want to store stuff that I think has a funny name.

Stockroom G, I just enjoy saying "Stockroom G"

Etc

Sold Out= Stockroom A
New items from Imports= Stockroom A

I use Stockroom B to store sold out Items (so I actually move them to B), that
way my Stockroom A stays clean with things I need to check, those can either
be 'to sell', To keep', 'to merge', etc, I know all newly
listed stuff is autocmaticly there, so I can concentrate on my Stockroom A. Stockroom
B also contains things I need to fllow up in future, like minifig parts, Stickers
I wanna activate in future, stufff like that. My stockroom C is mainly containing
my personal collection, but I would like to have that splitted, Minifigs, Sets,
etc... And would certainly wanna be able to split Stockroom B, and would like
to have a setting to move 'sold out' items automaticly to a stockroom
of choice (Z) for example...

So YES to more stockrooms (doesn't matter if then can be named or not, allthough
it would be handy...)

How about this for a proposal - Lego started with Fabuland Orange in 1982 with
separate parts (perhaps even back in 1979 with the heads) and then at some point
during the time these special orange parts were in production (through at least
1986) the color was switched. Look at the difference in color between the heads
on these versions of the Fabuland lion:

Minifig No: fab7e Name: Fabuland Lion - Lionel Lion (Mayor)

fab7e Fabuland Lion - Lionel Lion (Mayor)

Minifig No: fab7g Name: Fabuland Lion - Lionel Lion (Mayor), with Necklace and White Hat

fab7g Fabuland Lion - Lionel Lion (Mayor), with Necklace and White Hat
Minifigures: Fabuland

One would need to compare actual color, having both items in hand, as based on
an image (made by 2 different people and therefore 2 different pictures quality
and colorbalance) comparison is IMHO impossible...

check the note under the inventory:

This set has two versions, with a change from Brown 2 x 6 to 1 x 6 bricks

58 Parts, 1970
Sets: Train: 4.5V

* Change 4 Part Red {wheel2a Train Wheel Spoked for Motor to wheel2b Train Wheel Spoked for Wagon}

Comments from Submitter:
This set comes with wagon wheels, not motor wheels.

Is it true that motor wheels always came with the rubber rim pre-assembled?

I remember having wheels with the train engine on them, and at the time I did
not know that there were other train wheels with a wagon on them. I always thought
the engine symbol stood for "train", but apparently it meant "this one has a
rubber rim, make sure these ones are used with the motor".

No, it means "I have a different shape than the other one!"

I don't perceive any difference in shape, but I'm only looking at the
catalog images and I don't have a physical wagon wheel to compare to the
engine type. Where is the shape different?

Part No: wheel2b Name: Train Wheel Spoked for Wagon
*
wheel2b Train Wheel Spoked for Wagon
Parts: Wheel
has a straight hub

Part No: wheel2a Name: Train Wheel Spoked for Motor
*
wheel2a Train Wheel Spoked for Motor
Parts: Wheel
has a beveled hub

Isn't this difference, though, based entirely on one having to hold (and
make space for) a rubber rim, and the other not using the rim? In other words,
the beveled wheel was always used with the rim, and the straight one never had
the rim.

That is correct, and the beveled form is not to make space for the rim, it is
to avoid it slips off, as when 'running' it generates centrifugal force
and so on a straight wheel the rim slips off, it does not on the beveled version.
The rims are obviously needed to create traction clutch when running with a motor,
on a 'push' train this was not needed/not the case, so the OP is most
likely right

The reason I am poking for information on this is that I believe it would be
best, when we start making adjustments to the way early wheels are handled in
inventories, that the engine wheel with rim assembly:

Part No: wheel2ac01 Name: Train Wheel Spoked for Motor with Black Train Rim for 4.5V & 12V Locomotive Wheels (wheel2a / trainrim)
*

Part No: wheel2ac02 Name: Train Wheel Spoked for Motor with Light Gray Train Rim for 4.5V & 12V Locomotive Wheels (wheel2a / trainrim)
*
wheel2ac02 (Inv) Train Wheel Spoked for Motor with Light Gray Train Rim for 4.5V & 12V Locomotive Wheels (wheel2a / trainrim)
Parts: Wheel & Tire Assembly

As far as I can remember, the rims where not factory placed on the wheels (neither
in the 12V series btw), probably because they would start to stretch right from
the start, some boxes show them as a seperate item in the displayed parts list
if I recall well (would need to check to make sure).

...be listed in the Regular Items section

please not...

   similar to these wheels:

Part No: 3137c01assy1 Name: Brick, Modified 2 x 2 with Red Wheels for Single Tire with Black Tires 14mm D. x 4mm Smooth Small Single (3137c01 / 3139)
*
3137c01assy1 (Inv) Brick, Modified 2 x 2 with Red Wheels for Single Tire with Black Tires 14mm D. x 4mm Smooth Small Single (3137c01 / 3139)
Parts: Wheel & Tire Assembly

Part No: 3137c02assy1 Name: Brick, Modified 2 x 2 with Red Wheels for Dually Tire with Black Tires Smooth Small Dually (3137c02 / 7b)
*
3137c02assy1 (Inv) Brick, Modified 2 x 2 with Red Wheels for Dually Tire with Black Tires Smooth Small Dually (3137c02 / 7b)
Parts: Wheel & Tire Assembly
...which always came assembled, and were considered to be a single part by TLG
at the time.

Yes correct but then in the '80 and even in the '90 some assemblies where
regular as well, but never supported by the site 'inventory' wise:

Change made to reflect reality based on MISB set

http://www.bricklink.com/catalogInvChangeItem.asp?itemType=S&itemNo=1760-1&viewDate=Y&viewStatus=1

with things 'undone' later on

Sure the change I made created 'inconsistancy', but it created a precendent
with the intend to reflect more reality in inventories, while now it's just
'consistent', fact is, LEGO has not always been consistant, so why should
we? Let inventories reflect reality, period.

Comments from Submitter:
Standard is to have all of flowers in regular inventory.

There was an unwritten exception for this?

From Apr 6, 2012 we have these examples:

Set No: col07 Name: Bride, Series 7 (Complete Set with Stand and Accessories)
*
col07-4 (Inv) Bride, Series 7 (Complete Set with Stand and Accessories)
3 Parts, 1 Minifigure, 2012

Set No: col07 Name: Hippie, Series 7 (Complete Set with Stand and Accessories)
*
col07-11 (Inv) Hippie, Series 7 (Complete Set with Stand and Accessories)
3 Parts, 1 Minifigure, 2012
Sets: Collectible Minifigures: Series 7 Minifigures
...and there are 4 more, all small sets. But then we have hundreds of them changed
over to sprues by Admin Dan on Feb 24, 2007.

I'm not 100% for following Dan's example in every situation (everybody
ends up out on a limb at one point or another), but in this case it became a
well-established policy and it points in the same general direction that inventory
policy is already headed, i.e. to represent the original (new) condition of sets
more closely.

I don't remember anything being said in 2012 about an unwritten exception.
Obviously the state of the 6 small inventories was intentional, so we can't
claim this was just an oversight. But I don't see a reason for the exception.
Can anybody explain why these sets are different than all the rest?

Russell

The 'on sprue' was usefull because of part out's of new sets, if
3 where regular and 1 was extra, it would cause a mess for sellers on partouts,
for used sets it was less an issue if one flower was missing (even if it was
regular), as most buyers would most likely not make an issue out of it.
For the CMF's (and possibly other small sets) it's a bit more of a problem,
as there are high detailed pictures showing 3 flowers, the chances for partouts
where/are smaller, as either the baggie would be sold 'complete', either
the fig would be sold as a complete fig, leaving almost no other parts in most
cases (except some small accessoires) and easier to have control (compared to
large sets) on a partout. I don't remember the exact reason why the smaller
sets had inventories like that, but it was an unwritten and deliberate 'exception'
on the CMF's in the first place, it was discussed back then when other people
tried to file inventory changes, I'm not sure it was the right course of
action, as indeed it removed the consistancy on these flowers, BUT the reasoning
was at the same time as the reasoning for the 'knives' on sprue, as in
most cases only one was used and the second was extra...
A bit complicated, and an eternal issue when selling 'new' compared
to selling 'used', but the priority was given to 'used' (in the
long run) with the intend to not force sellers of 'used' sets to have
to add 'spares' that are not part of the actual build and therefor are
not required to consider a set 'complete' (reason why extra knives and
brickseperators got moved to 'extra', and why on small CMF sets the 1
flower was put as an extra).

when has bricklink ever been wrong?

What's your thinking here (or your point)? In regards to what ? Inventories
and their corectness?

__________________________________________________________________________________________

what I mean is, I don't think bricklink has ever had any incorrect info on
ANYTHING.

You have been around for 2 weeks and you already figured out Bl doens't hold
any incorrect info in it's catalog and inventories database
Wow, what are you? Superman?

There are hundreds of incorrect inventories and errors in BL's database

Shown in instructions wearing the bag - it should be included in the minifig inventory.

The general conscensus is to not add the pouch to figs, known in 28 sets and
4 gear, but not known in any fig...

http://alpha.bricklink.com/pages/clone/catalogitem.page?P=61976#T=C

Doesn't mean some people don't agree with you, but changing it now would
cause a bigger mess as plenty of figs would need to be resubmitted and the existing
ones would need to be marked for deletion... Inventories would need to be adapted...

And then the next one will be

Everyone think is it a bad idea?

Personally I think it would clutter up the catalog, what I wouldn't mind
is using the note section to describe the inner boxes/baggies when there is relevance,
Like: Top tray, Inner Box numbers, number of inner trays, and why not inner cardboard
trays numbers and color, together with images when there is really a need to
(not for cardboard trays).

Don't think the catalog admins have an issue to add additional images where
it has relevance
Exemple (one I supplied): check the second large image for this box entry:

Original Box No: 727 Name: 12V Locomotive
*
727-1 12V Locomotive
Original Boxes: Train: 12V

Comments from Submitter:
http://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=938577

Thanks for helping this fellow out.

I was looking at these cones last night to see what should be done with this
inventory, and it looks like another mess to be untangled. One question I had
- is it possible to fit the boat mast into a hollow stud (not open)? Is it stable?
From the large image, it looks as though the boat mast has a rounded end:

Part No: 476 Name: Bar 12L with Open Stud, Tow Ball, and Slit (Boat Mast)
*
476 Bar 12L with Open Stud, Tow Ball, and Slit (Boat Mast)
Parts: Bar
..but of course we get into trouble very fast with CAD images. If you have one
of these parts, could you test it?

Did not need to test it to help out the OP of the request, because I know a 3957
doesn't hold in a blocked or recessed stud. The boatmast is worse as it has
a splitted top, so even if it would fit in, the splitted top would certainly
not hold in tight.
But as you asked so kindly, I still tested it, no way this could work, the rounded
top is higher (and similar to the 3957 top) then the stud depth...

The other thing is the problem with the printed cones. The "other" version is
this:

Part No: 3942p1 Name: Cone 2 x 2 x 2 with Horizontal Red Stripes Pattern
*
3942p1 Cone 2 x 2 x 2 with Horizontal Red Stripes Pattern
Parts: Cone, Decorated
...which strictly speaking has an undetermined stud type. This part occurs from
1985 to 1998, but the B type occurs from 1990 to 1993, right in the middle:

Part No: 3942bpb01 Name: Cone 2 x 2 x 2 - Blocked Open Stud with Horizontal Red Stripes Pattern
*
3942bpb01 Cone 2 x 2 x 2 - Blocked Open Stud with Horizontal Red Stripes Pattern
Parts: Cone, Decorated

Something doesn't add up in all of this. Any enlightenment would be appreciated.

Yep, reason I stated this when replying the OP:
http://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=938623
It is something I'll be looking into when I get the chance, but as I've
stated before (as with the Vestas set that I didn't manage to dig up), this
is going in my to do book (it used to be a list, I had to upgrade to a book)
with no deadline, as most of my persoanl stuff is packed...
I do assume there is a catch with current entries, one option is to contact sellers
who are selling used sets (or used parts) to find out if an 'open' stud
exists with those stripes, the first step would be to have it added in catalog

Has been mentioned before but why not a fee ($10-20) as an initial fee to open
a store. Maybe divided to 2 fees--one lower and one higher--based on
inventory of parts or sets. Then that amount is used toward your selling fees.
Or even a small monthly fee.

Anyone think that would slow scammer stores down any?

I doubt, if I were a scammer aiming for $1000-$10000 in just a few days, I wouldn't
give a damn about 'investing' $10-20 I would need to 'fund'
it somehow, but that could be done in dozens of ways, without any form of control
(particulary on Paypal) as the amount is too small.

Currently, anyone can open a store on BrickLink simply by confirming the email
address you provide when registering. The process is automatic with no human
intervention in the process other than the new seller. I suggest that when a
new member wishes to open a store, that store will not become open to all other
members until and unless Admin reviews and approves that store. In other words,
rather than allowing new sellers to open a store immediately on their own without
any prior review, Admin should step into this process before the store can open.

This should help catch SOME (but not all) scammers. 100% protection is not necessary.
Anything the helps reduce the number and frequency of new scammers is helpful.

Admin can usually tell when a store looks bogus or suspicious and can intervene
to require more information or assurances from the new seller before their store
is allowed to open. Admin also has access to a database of prior BL scammers
and other information about everyone who joins BL. Most new stores should quickly
pass this review and approval by Admin almost immediately. It is the ones that
raise red flags that Admin's intervention can put a brake on.

With only a handful of new stores opening each day, and the review process being
rather quick (no more than a few minutes per new store), this should not impose
any significant additional burden on Admin's time or barriers to entry for
new sellers. In fact, by catching scammers before they can scam, it may actually
save Admin some time.

Scammers have opened new stores on BrickLink many hundreds of times already over
the years. You would think by now it would be obvious that there is a need for
some human to step into the process for minimal prior screening of these new
sellers and stores. This common sense step is long overdue.

Thor

I support any idea that might slow down potential scammers, how it is done is
the sites perogative and duty to work it out. I'm not saying yes to this
particular suggestion, but also not 'no', as it is not our task to determine
'how' the site should be set up to prevent scammers to pop up to quickly,
with too many valuable items for sale. An automated system might still be an
option, particulary if a limitation on 'listed value' is put into place.

Now, we talk a lot about 'scam stores' here and by making suggestions
we try to help by offering 'options' to look at by the site, but I have
another question for you Foster:
What would need to be the reaction from the site, if a buyer turns out to be
a scammer or if there are repeated cases of NSS or Paypal claims against sellers
by a buyer? These kind of situations do exist, yet are hardly being talked about...

If you have your settings set up for messages being also forwarded to your regular

Voted yes. It might be easier to code it by limiting the number of different
members a newbie can message each day rather than putting a limit on the total
number of messages. E.g. 5 members per day instead of 5 messages per day.

5 members per day seems more logical then 5 messages per day.

Thor

Or maybe it would be easier to code it so that members can send unlimited messages
from their order details (both received and placed) page. That way they can send
unlimited messages to buyers and sellers with whom they have open orders.

I assumed the limitation is only valid for messages that are not order related,
and that for order related messages (send from within the orderoverview) there
would be no limit ?
Anyone can confirm whether the limitation is also valid on 'orders'?

* Forcing the need of a personal picture with a Post-it on it with the sellers
username or storename, if the item has a value of more then $200 (all new sellers
with a selling feedback less the 10) as of $500 for all sellers with a feedback
of less then 100, as of $1000: for all sellers regardless the feedback.

* For newbie sellers (less then 10 FB) the admins would need to 'accept'
the listing of a high valued set before it goes online (as of $500 for example),
so sellers can list it, get invited to post a picture (with the username on it),
upload the picture, admin checks the item, the sellers details, IP location,
etc, then approves the listing if it seems legit, then it goes online (so the
site has control over the listing before it goes online, in stead of running
behind the facts). Any legit seller won't mind doing so, the Scammers will
realise there is not much point in trying.

Over the years a lot of suggestions have been made to prevent scam sellers from
getting loads of orders, take the money and run.
I'm sure BL is trying to work out systems to prevent such things from happening
in future, so it would be good to rank up all the potential options one could
imagine to have limitations, to have faster action on potential scam stores and
to potentially send warnings to buyers with open orders.
Please don't make this thread into a discussion, just state a clear idea,
without too much blah blah and without arguing about pro's and contra's,
without repeating or applauding to another ones suggestion, so just simple
things like the one below, with a brief indication/explanation of the option

Certain things could apply for new sellers with no feedback or when a member
opens a store (if if the member has hundreds or thousands of feedbacks from buying),
untill either they proof themselves by generating selling feedback, and/or by
giving proof items are in stock and/or by prooving who they are. Some of the
suggestion may conflict with eachother, but that is besides the intention of
the thread, let's just rank up the ideas in an easy to review thread for
the site admins so they can compile the ideas.

* Lot limitation: New sellers usually start pretty small and build up their store
along the way, so a lot limitation could prevent scammers using the PO function
on high valued sets. Example: maximum 200 lot's (legit sellers would probably
get a few orders a long the way and build up feedback)

* value limitation: example 500$, legit sellers would probably start small with
a limited inventory, get a few orders and work their way up. This limit would
exclude newbies from selling high valued sets soon they open a store, and for
legit sellers starting small, $500 is most likely quite a nice base to get started
(parts/minifigs/small and medium sets) and rank up some orders and feedbacks.

* maximum on 'number' of orders during the first month, for example 1/day
and 3/week, if no complaints during that month (no negatives, no neutrals, no
NSS/NRS statusses), upgrade to 2/day and 5/week the next month, if still no complaints,
full access

* Tags on high valued sets, so the admins would get a warning, sellers with a
sellers feedback lower then 10 for example.

* As admins can't be around 24/7: select a number of people worldwide who
can tag stores or listings, if a store or an item get's tagged by 3 different
people: Closure as 'preventive action', or block an item from being bought,
so the admins can review if there is a problem or not, the next business day
or their next avaliable moment online, with offcourse a mail to the admins to
check the situation or the item for sale that was 'locked'.

* If a store is locked (except if the reason is non payment of fees): a warning
to all buyers with open orders to either delay payment for a few days, to contact
seller to ask for tracking or proof of postage if shipped or ask information
about the status of the order and expected shippingdate if not yet shipped.

* Obligation for brand new sellers to have Paypal among the offered accepted
payment methods (after all they'll need to pay fees to BL for the sales,
so they need Paypal anyway).

* BL as temporary withholder of funds particulary on larger orders from newbie
sellers (I'm not in favor of this myself, but I do consider it an option).

* More proof on who sellers are, prior to being allowed opening a store: ID card
/ Drivers license / a small Paypal payment / Business documentation / etc, so
BL has the sellers details on record and can compare it to the registered address.

So, ideas like that with brief explanation and again, please don't make it
a discussion, just state your idea on what could help to improve BL in regards
to prevent scams

Sure people move once in a while, but I doubt many members move every few months
(even APO/FPO most likely don't).
The suggestion is to put in a limitation on the number of address changes, like
once every 2 months or each quarter at most, this should limit the options for
dropshippers to abuse the system.
Granted, this won't solve the problem when buyers requests this by mail,
but sellers can choose to disregard such...

Dropshipping is a growing problem in the world of e-commerce, remember that sellers
usually are on the loosing end when something goes wrong, particulary if paid
by Paypal, as usually it will not be the buyers address you'll be shipping
to...

I thought this sounded familiar ... http://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=932111

I'm all for it, regardless of who makes the suggestion.

The reason was different, but the final outcome for both suggestions would serve
to solve both issues indeed. I do think it should be more then 1 month, 2 at
least, but preferably 3 or 4 months in between an address change would limit
these kind of abuse.

A lot of sellers prepare their order, then send an invoice, buyers pays, order
is set to packed.
Others prepare after being paid, so if the seller followed the procedure (aka
setting the order 'paid', when indeed payment got in), and now the system
does it, then nothing has changed either...

Why would my analysis and conclusions be flawed
If you run 'full time' (with several people) a business, of which 'BL'
is only part, with the amount of orders on BL, 1 person could do the 'BL'
processing, while others process orders from other venues. I do understand that
your method is a typical 'BO' method, because indeed the BO system allows
an intermediate step: 'processing', before an order is set 'processed'
(I oftenly skip the intermediate step) and it allows you to know 'someone'
is handling a certain order. Granted, right now BL doesn't allow such, but
if you have 1 person focussing on BL and 'filling' in on BO (and/or other
venues), then your problem is solved

Now what exactly has changed
'before' you would send an invoice with either you PP e-mail or a link.
Buyer pays, PP send a notification to 'warn' you, you login to PP, check
the payment and set the order on Bl to 'paid'
'now' you have a 'pay' button, you invoice the buyer, the buyer
clicks 'pay', PP sends you a notification, and sends a message trough
the PP/BL-API to put the order in 'paid' status, you login to PP, check
the payment and you don't need to do a thing on BL...
Not much has changed, I really don't see why all of a sudden people wanna
change something to the whole system that has worked fine for years on Ebay/Amazon/BO
and thousands of other websites using this method...

Oh, and I strongly recommend *if* you're using the 'PP onsite' method,
to remove any payment details (or payment links) from your invoices... just use
the 'pay' method and problem solved

No change sparked my suggestion.

I have a buyer from last night that needed their order rushed and chose PP onsite.
They haven't paid yet. Rather than checking PP to see if payment showed up,
it would be nice to get a little visual alert on BL.

Julie

Just check you order overview and if the status says 'paid' then it's
paid
Or check your regular inbox to find out if PP send you a notification...

If a buyer is really in a hurry, presumably they would pop you a message anyway
saying: 'hey I paid, why isn't this shipped yet'

I don't really believe in 'rush orders' anymore, most buyers then
take 24-48 (or more) hours to pay and then suddenly *you* need to rush Doesn't
mean I wouldn't do the effort to get it out asap, but the asap starts when
I notice the order has been paid for, not when the buyer requested me a fast
invoice

Orders paid for onsite now cause the order status to be set to PAID automatically.

Please either move the new PAID status to the Payment Status column (where logically,
it should be), or if it must appear under the Order Status for technical reasons,
at least allow the PROCESSING order status to be selected after PAID status has
been set.

For discussion of the problem, see threads
http://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=933149
http://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=931965

I'm quite puzzeld by your request...
For starters I agree there should be an extra option in the order status options,
something like 'picking', before it can set to 'packed', as it
would be conveniant for larger stores who have more then one person to process
orders, so they know if the picking lists have been 'handed out'.
But...
If a store has multiple people to do the picking, then I assume they have set
up a system which allows them to know who is doing what... I do assume these
'compagnies' have persons who communicate with eachother, organised by
the shop owner, no? I don't so 'why' suddenly this has become a problem,
because from a technical point of view, if the shopowner used to check received
payments, he/she would set the order in 'paid' status, and after all,
it always came 'after' the processing status... So nothing has changed,
the only thing that is happening now, is that 'now' the shopowner doesn't
need to set the status to 'paid' as it is done automaticly.

I notice from your FB list, that for the past year you have received about 410
feedbacks.
Some of them are for you as a buyer (I did not check how many), and assuming
about 20-25% of people do not leave feedback, it means you had about 500 Orders
on BL the past 12 months. That's less then 1.5 orders per day, yet you're
not able to manage the 'status' of orders or to 'know' which
'picker' is doing what Granted, I do not know whether you also sell
on other sites like Fleebay, Amazon, Brickowl and other websites, but an average
of 1.5 orders per day on Briclink seems quite managable IMHO... When I look at
my received orders for the past 12 months, I notice I had 226 on Bricklink (and
closed over 2 months) and 542 on Brickowl, totalling +765 orders, and did it
all by myself 'after' my dayjob... I never had an issues to 'know'
which order had to be picked, as at all times, an order in 'paid' status
would go at the back of the pile, first in first out (in most cases), with an
average processing time of less then 48 hours (=order shipped)
Now don't get me wrong, it's not a critisism as I have no idea what else
you're running, but from your amount of processed order on BL, it would say
the only thing that is missing in you store is 'comms' between the people
who 'manage' your store and maybe a bit of lack or organisation.... Maybe
you should reduce that to just 1 person, as handling 1.5 orders per day, is IMHO
quite manageable for just 1 person

cheers, Eric

I propose adding some text to indicate the amount shown is NOT the grand total

to have a buyer pay this amount before invoicing but it does happen and this
simple added note could help prevent a buyer from thinking shipping is included

In the long run this kind of situation will dissapear with autcheckout/instant

In the mean while I suggest to add a note to your order notifications (buyers
get them in their inbox):

http://www.bricklink.com/mailTempDetail.asp?ID=0&viewFrom=O

Something like this (my order notifications start with this):

**************************
This is NOT an invoice, this is simple notification you placed an order. Please
do NOT sent payment until you receive an invoice. You should receive your invoice
with payment instructions within 3 days (usually 24 hours). If you have not heard
from us within this time frame please use the contact feature through your order
form to request an invoice. Thank you!
**************************
If you add to your order after the first invoice (additional batch), please wait
untill you get a new invoice before transfering the payment, as shippingcosts
might change. If payment is send before we send a new invoice and this results
in a secondary payment to cover additional shippingcosts, an additional fee of
0.35 Euro will be added.
Thanks for understanding!

Quite right Eileen...
This suggestion and discussion is pointless as once the site progresses to autocheckout
with instant payment, this problem will solve itself for the majority of cases
(particulary the ones with Paypal). Ok, the ones with other payment methods will
remain (IBAN / Bantransfers / cash / checks / etc), but those particular payment
methods always require extra transfer time, so from that point of view it would
be foolish to review the current 'timings'...

Please add the stickered parts to the "part out" feature - or at least an option
to include them. I often part out used sets that are not complete, it's much
easier to do so from the part out page. But I have to manually add each of the
stickered parts, even though they are listed in the inventory alternates in the
catalog.

Thanks,
Ruth

I'll say yes, because I don't wanna say no to such a suggestion, allthough
I'll never use it, as it can be done quite easely with Brickstock (and I
always use Brickstock to part out these days anyway), so I do feel the need for
counterparts being present in PO's as I regulary pat out used sets myself.
But this should remain a selectable 'option' when starting a partout.

With the price of storage constantly dropping, I think it's time to put an
end to this practice.

Even if orders were "archived" after 6 months and you had to query them separately
from normal orders, I think that would be preferable to deleting them.

I know this is even more of a long shot, and I don't know what your backup
policy is like, but it would be possible to retrieve old purged orders from any
database backups you have and restore them to the current database.

Don't see the point honestly, would only clutter up ones overview, with more
data that is rarely usefull.
If you really want a copy, print to PDF or import in brickstock, or both, as
one would serve keeping the buyers details and a general overview, the other
could serve for searches...
I wouldn't mind a small extension like 8 months in stead of 6, but mainly
because the deadline for PP claims and CC claims is 180 days, so a little extra
before they are purged might be good.
Restoring older orders is even more pointless IMHO

Sorry. Missed this one when I submitted the first request.

Well, now it no longer complies with 'all applicable federal, state, and
local regulations regarding inventory change requests'.
