As some of you miiiight have noticed I haven't been around for a while here.
Just a last post to say I'm quitting this forum, as I feel we have plenty
of channels to discuss all things Bricklink and Lego selling in general these
days, and I no longer feel this forum has any merit to me. I might post something
someday if there's some kind of urgent selling emergency because of new rules
or whatever, but that'll be it. So, it's been fun, see you guys elsewhere
or good luck on all your Lego endeavours

I will just leave a couple of usual replies to common topics right here:

- Wear that first negative feedback like a badge of honor
- You have to separate payment status and order status, set payment status to
none, then try again
- Just pay your taxes
- You need Brickstore or other software to be able to do that
- Yeah, I'm also waiting until Bricklink lets me part out my Ninjago Gardens
- Those are all pearl gold
- Wow! Yes, I would love to buy that driver's license and US passport

Hope this way my input is going to be relevant for many years to come

I'm still having lots of cancelled payments on Stripe. Mostly from American
users, but also some European. There is one user who made 3 attempts in one day,
and did not end up placing an order. Every unsuccessful payment seems to say
"a check-out session has expired".

I receive payments for my own webshop through the same channel, and while I have
more orders, I have maybe one unsuccesful payment per month there.

I've tried to reach out to the buyers but most have not responded. Two told
me it was indeed intentional, but I still worry about the ones that didn't
respond, as there are quite many of these attempts. This could be a real problem,
right..?! Is it because of that last page that Bricklink has where you have to
(redundantly) confirm your payment? Often when I pay onsite I forget this step
exists and find it an hour later somewhere in my browser tabs.. but as it is
mostly American users, it could be because of sales tax changing the buyer's
mind, too.. I really have no idea. And even in the best case that all were somehow
intentional, it was still a lot of time wasted for the buyers.

Inspired by an incorrect comment yesterday in the EU distance selling call that
shipping costs don't include VAT, I went to check a VAT invoice of my orders
to the UK and yep, I noticed that VAT was only calculated over the item total
and not the shipping costs. This is not right, VAT needs to be calculated over
the grand total. I wonder, could this be the reason for some situations where
people need to pay VAT twice? I don't know what invoices (if any) get attached
when importing into the EU, but if the ex.VAT price of the grand total does not
match with the VAT percentage charged, it is logical that authorities will not
accept it.

I don't know precisely for which countries shipping costs have VAT (I checked
UK, seems yes), but even if there would be a country that doesn't, it would
still be incorrect because S&H charges include handling which is always subject
to VAT. (And sometimes the postage costs are visible on the label, and if that
doesn't match the shipping cost in the invoice, for which no VAT was charged,
that's going to raise some eyebrows)

Or is this just in my store, because I haven't switched on VAT on shipping
costs? (I don't use Bricklink to calculate my VAT, I just entered the correct
shipping prices the way they should be, so I didn't need this feature)

Happy new years folks!
I noticed I suddenly have a lot (5) of cancelled payments in my Stripe for 30
and 31 December. Something going wrong at Bricklink? People having difficulty
to place orders? Did anyone else notice a lot of cancelled payments?

I reported this before, but oh well. The "exclude items on sale" option in coupons
is bugged. It doesn't only exclude items with a reduced sale price, but also
the ones that have an increased price by using a negative sale amount. Negative
sales are not visible to the buyer, so buyers don't understand what is going
on. They think they will get e.g. 10% discount because the coupon says so, but
if 90% of the items in their basket actually have a negative sale amount, their
discount is only 1%. This is really misleading.

Please fix this by making the "exclude items on sale" option still include the
items with a negative sale amount. Thanks!

The usual pattern for bugs I report is: Bricklink says "ah, well that's funny!",
nothing happens, and I give up, but this time I will try again, since this one
really is a nuisance. I need to go over all of my shipping methods one by one
and change it every time I adjust my minimum order (and lose the old settings).
So, one more time...

Bricklink, please, remove this pointless restriction. There is no reason why
my minimum order can't be higher than my shipping method minimum orders.
The store minimum should simply override it.

In fact it frustrates the bypass procedure, because I cannot control which shipping
methods become available when someone gets the bypass password (not sure if they
get any at all - they might end up with none). Simply allow shipping methods
to have a low minimum. Should be a simple change.

mijn software moet gaan aanpassen.
Verder
nog iets dat ik moet weten?

- Why can I enter only the design ID and not the element ID from the "add item"
screen? They are in the database, so Bricklink might as well use them, right?

- I can't enter a negative sale in the "add item" screen. It just doesn't
accept a "-" character in that screen. Has been reported 5 weeks ago and devs
were going to have a look at it, still not fixed. (=The usual pattern whenever
I report anything, so I'm not surprised, but still - come on guys!)

Set No: 6087 Name: Witch's Magic Manor
*
6087-1 (Inv) Witch's Magic Manor
228 Parts, 6 Minifigures, 1997
Sets: Castle: Fright Knights

As a kid staring at the 1997 catalog, I always wondered...

What even is this?!

Not sure if this BURPfest is supposed to be a castle (it's completely open
on one side) or some kind of mountain ambush, but anyway... what is that black
thing sticking out behind it (on the catalog image)?
And I always wondered: Is the witch with the bat knights or against
them? In my catalog they seem to have a rivalry but it seems the knights are..
guarding this thing?
And what's that dark forest guy doing in the midst of this? (not that we
can even know it's a dark forest guy unless you live in the US, since that's
the only place where the dark forest sets were released - why even?). Is he guarding
this thing, or is he getting crushed under a rock? That's kind of a difference
you know!
And why is there a dragon flying around aimlessly? Or rather: Why does the witch
have a... helicopter? I mean, if there's literally a dragon right there to
fly around on...
And just the scene in general on the box art.. all figures are just running random
directions, someone shoots an arrow at a rock, everyone is too busy to even pay
attention to the scary skeleton. As a kid I had no idea what I was looking at!

I wonder if LEGO even knew what they were doing here? Maybe the worst castle
set ever made? Seems to me that 1997 is the year that things started to become
weird...

One of my customers added something to his order and it created a new order.
Even though the order was "ready". I thought it would always create a new batch
to the existing order, as long as the order isn't marked "packed"?

He first got a message saying that the value was lower than the minimum order
value, which I thought was already strange since it was supposed to be an addition.
I gave him the bypass password and it spawned a new order.

https://www.brexitloket.nl/actueel/nieuws/2020/12/22/nieuwe-regels-webwinkels

klopt? Gewoon business as usual, een buiten-EU zending zonder BTW dus.

I just noticed this in the catalog roadmap:

"Move parts out of Cone (most of them to Brick, Round) and eliminate the Cone
category."

But why? Actually, I kind of like the Cone category. I think it's:
- precise: It's pretty clear when something is a cone and when it is not
- nicely sized: There's quite a bunch of different cones by now, and the
number appears to be growing. Ok, it's not huge, but not smaller than Dish.
- a relevant set: Several cones combine together to form larger cones - top/bottom
halves, side halves

Seems like a fine category to me. I get the wish to eliminate some categories,
but then I'm thinking about stuff like Hook or Tail, the real small and
rarely used ones ones like that.

And I'm thinking: Slope and Slope,Curved get to be separate categories too.
If cones would be considered round bricks, then analogous to that at least maybe
we can have Brick,Round and Brick,Round,Conical? Not sure what the exact reason
was to be cone haters, but maybe this could be the best of both worlds? Somehow
it feels like a waste to me to throw one category into another when it has such
a consistent distinctive feature.

Well, just some thoughts

Question to admin; Is there a reason why iDeal is not mentioned in the list of

Posted it before sometime, but anyway - I'd really like to see this part
moved:

Part No: 65578 Name: Bar 1L with Angled Hollow Stud
*
65578 Bar 1L with Angled Hollow Stud
Parts: Bar

Why I think it's not a utensil:
It doesn't represent anything, like a guitar, a shovel, a suitcase etc. It
is used to make minifigs jump or fly, so it's at best a utensil for the builder,
but not in-world.
(Utensil = "For items that cannot be worn, are intended for minifigure use, and
are not weapons. Some may also be used by micro and mini dolls.")

Why I think it's a bar:
It's basically a bar with a stud, much like this:

Part No: 32828 Name: Bar 1L with 1 x 1 Round Plate with Hollow Stud
*
32828 Bar 1L with 1 x 1 Round Plate with Hollow Stud
Parts: Bar

And we're likely to see more and more uses where it's simply used for
its shape and not as a minifig stand. After all, the 3x4 bases of collectible
minifigs are 'tile modified' too even though they debuted as minifig
stands.

I'm trying to do some sorting here but I'm terribly confused with the
categorisation of these rounded corners these days. Can we please improve this
and have them all in the same category?

Part No: 76797 Name: Slope, Curved 3 x 3 Corner Round
*
76797 Slope, Curved 3 x 3 Corner Round
Parts: Slope, Curved
Is a 'slope curved'

Part No: 67810 Name: Slope, Curved 2 x 2 x 1 1/3 Corner Round with Recessed Stud
*
67810 Slope, Curved 2 x 2 x 1 1/3 Corner Round with Recessed Stud
Parts: Slope, Curved
Is a 'brick modified' (but it's the corner of a slope curved)

Part No: 88293 Name: Brick, Round Corner 3 x 3 x 2 Dome Top
*
88293 Brick, Round Corner 3 x 3 x 2 Dome Top
Parts: Brick, Round
Is a 'brick round' (but it's the corner of a slope curved)

All of their non-corner versions are 'slope curved'. Please let's
have them all either in 'slope curved' on that basis, or in 'brick
round' on the basis of their base having a rounded site. No preference but
please let's make it consistent, thanks!

So.. forgive my inattentiveness, but last time I checked (earlier this year),
the catalog was looking a biiit different from what I was used to for the past
15 years. And since I am a catalog based sorter, I decided to close the main
part of my store on Bricklink for now, focus on other stuff and address the issue
later on. Give it some time for the dust of moving stuff in the catalog to settle.

I recall there was some Dome category, amongst a few other things (didn't
wedge plates also got moved to plate? Or that was about to happen?)....

But the other day I was browsing my inventory and I noticed everything is...
preeetty much the way it used to be? Tried to search the forum but didn't
exactly find an explanation.. whatever happened? I mean, I'm fine with it,
but just wondering.. was it cancelled or just postponed?
