As a result of bje's post on anchors not working on our storefronts we began
an investigation into what was going on. Our code works fine on Bricklink if
you are using IE11 e.g. the links and anchors work as they should, but if you
use Chrome or Edge (The other two browsers we can test) it doesn't. I passed
this on to our web developer to look at and he has come back and said it works
fine on Chrome or Edge as stand alone code - that means, by default there is
something wrong with Bricklink and how it is handling the code or adding to it.

We know this is affecting us and bje

Anybody else have this happening?

The minifigs in set 75948 do not appear to have been inventoried yet and according
to the catalogue page it is not pending - is there a problem with these?

Late last night on our forum a post was made relating to Bricksynch and its future.
The author has decided to make the software source code available as an open
source product with no registration required.

You can read the full announcement at http://www.bricksync.net/

Whether you feel this is good, bad or indifferent news is down to you as an individual

We are aware of at least two different people who are working on replacements
for both Bricksynch and Brickstock - neither of which are well supported.

The plot really does thicken.

The site has had its fair share of the now infamous Server 500 errors today.
We circulated a message to our user group and found they were happening on this
side of the pond as well as the other side. There were lots of strange things
going on. We are on a network with our storage centre and they could access the
site and we couldn't - we both use different ISP's - others got it intermittently
as well.

We could only get the web server page (The banner page) the application and database
servers were not available .

No mention of it here on the forum but other stores have confirmed it happening.
It is disruptive, of course, but also damaging to the site's reputation and
bewildering to new users.

I should think it should be very high on the priority list to uncover what is
causing it to happen and attending to that. At least that is what most hosting
sites would do.

There is a very good team at Bricklink of admins and volunteers but unfortunately
they have not got the ability to fix this nor the bugs that continue to exist
(Some are over 12 months old).

I think MP needs to organise this as a very high priority so that members, who,
after all are contributing to the running costs of the site, would like to have
more reliability than what we are currently getting as well as response to these
problems whatever they are and whatever is causing them. We are all happy to
leave the technical side to the 'employed experts' , but someone, somewhere
needs to get this sorted.

Here are the results for the UK stores group through Sept 2019. The downward
spiral continues - in fact Sept is the lowest month in 3 years of record keeping.
6 Stores are down overall whilst 7 show a very modest increase (But not enough
to hold up the other stores)

Something is not right.

If you look at the cold hard figures it reads like this:

Jun - Sep 2017 - 6746 orders
Jun - Sep 2018 - 6350 orders
Jun - Sep 2019 - 5654 orders

Are any other regions seeing this trend?

As I am sure most people who read the forum are aware there are lots and lots
of threads/comments about this issue.

I am happy to take the time to go through it with a fine toothcomb to at least
fully understand what is going on between the products, but I need a little bit
of help.

Need a USA store to supply screen shots of price guide and Brickstock, and need
an EU seller who is registered for VAT to do the same. Picking a single common
product I will map what is going on and come back to the forum with details.

I would probably take a common brick such as

Part No: 3010 Name: Brick 1 x 4
*
3010 Brick 1 x 4
Parts: Brick
as a starter but I am aware
there will be anomalies with this as some parts have appeared more in one region
than another.

Any takers?

Comparing your inventory pricing to average pricing in the price guide.

For a long time now (since we started selling here in 2008), we have thought
about comparing our prices to average prices in the price guide. It is simple
when you have a small inventory, but as that side grows so do the complications
in comparing your prices to the guide.

We have found a way, which works every time using a combination of Brickstock
and xe.com to compare 1 item or x million items at once. When you have tried
this and see how you fare the choice is then yours as to what you do about it.

Let me also say that we ignore things such as VAT as that is not applicable to
the majority of UK stores – but it is to the majority of EU stores.

OK this is how we do it.

1. Download our full inventory into Brickstock
a. That brings in all items (Except custom ones) and with it the current prices
these are listed at on Bricklink. It also brings in the total weight which is
handy at times.
b. Copy that Brickstock page and paste it into a new one.
c. On the new page go to the edit price command and say set to average prices
(either the sold ones or current averages). Then when it has completed that –
choose edit price again and round to 2 decimal places.
d. If you are USA based the price shown on the bottom of this new page is what
the average price for all the items you selected is. You have a note of the actual
inventory value on the first page so just compare them and that will give you
an excellent view of where you stand compared to average prices.
e. If you are in the UK there is another step to perform before you can compare
the 2nd page prices to the first page and that is getting the downloaded average
prices correct. The simple way to do this is as follows:
i. Go to xe.com and look at the $ to £ conversion figure and apply that to your
page 2 prices as a decrease by % ((use 2 decimal places for your percentage decrease
as that gets you closest)).
ii. Once that is done your page 2 in Brickstock is the value of your inventory
at today’s exchange rate. Compare that and you can see how close or far you
are from Bricklinks price guide
f. What you do after you see the price differences is really up to you, of course,
but it is not a bad idea to keep your eye on this, as price is certainly one
factor buyers may use when purchasing.
g. By the way we do this by Product Family rather than the entire inventory,
although we do look at overall as well. Product families are a level above categories
and we have built that into our external system, although Bricklink has not.
i. Our families are:
1. Bricks
2. Minifigures
3. Minifigure Accessories
4. Other
5. Plates
6. Sets
7. Slopes
8. Technic
9. Tiles
Hope this is clear – if not, pm us and we will see if we can explain it better.

A short time ago Admin_Russell enlightened us with his inside knowledge of the
post that popsicle posted on other brands. And whilst he didn't really come
out and say there wouldn't be other brands added to the catalogue he made
it quite clear that Brickarms had not reached their level of expectations. Helpful
to a degree and thank you to Russell for coming to the forum with that.

Now lets see if we can tempt him to come to the forum about the next issue to
unfold - Bricklink express or XP or whatever you are going to call it.

It was announced here by MP, the head of development and acting CEO:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BafLDCzqNEo&feature=youtu.be&t=1h52m22s

Nothing more has been heard about it other than a brief comment, again by Russell
when he responded to a thread about creating a Pro version of Brickstock. See
beloew:

https://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=1127990

We now hear through the grapevine that the planned release for Phase 2 is likely
to be at the end of the yeqar and that will be followed by Sellers tools, which
was removed from the roadmap a little while ago without any explanation.

So the questions are simple. If you can comment, please do, if not well no change
to normal:

1. Will XP be opt in/Opt out ?
2. Will it still require Instant checkout and PP for marketplaces
3. How will its design work with large parts stores
4. If it is to be triggered away from Bricklink e.g. via Google search or something
similar will buyers still have to be registered to buy.
5. Is the Phase 2 release on time?
6. As it is in Phase 2 of its development can you provide us with any more detail
as to how it will work. MP had some slides in his presentation but that was about
a year ago and I am sure things have changed.

We understand the logic behind the decision to bring this feature to the site
as it could bring more revenue and a different market audience to some on the
site, although we would like to see some backup data to that to consider its
worth and hear a plausible argument as to how it will aid parts stores.

Most stores on this site have two operating modes - proactive and reactive. The
information above would help most of us on the proactive side as we plan for
the short and medium term (After all some of us are businesses - just like Bricklink).
Being limited to rumours and gossip is not the best way to plan your business
activities and I am sure most will agree with that.

So Russell or whoever, feel free to comment and get this matter out into the
open - let it be discussed debated, argued, praised or what have you. If it is
only 2 to 3 months away now would be a good time to get it all out in the open.

For those of you who use Brickstock and have questions about how to update your
inventory, I have produced a short guide (with screenshots) to clarify the situation.

If you would like a copy of the pdf let us know and we will be happy to send
it on, if not you can use the link below to review it.

A little while ago we mentioned the issue surrounding tiered pricing and how
it disappears after being set up when you part out a set or add additional inventory.
We believe we have found a really simple solution to it and it really doesn't
require all that much from development.

When you go into your my inventory pages and click on edit more you get a screen
which if called in the part outs or adding inventory could save the loss of tiered
pricing. So just as you can click on summary in the My Inventory page and show
the price guide below each item, you could have the edit more screen pop up when
you are reviewing your additions to your inventory before you post.

As that screen already exists and has both the remarks field and the tiered pricing
schedule you could easily either ignore or update it to fit the circumstances.

I think that makes sense. Interesting to hear from Bricklink development on this.

If this were implemented it could be ignored by those who do not use tiered pricing
and used by those that do.

See screen image below

As most of you are aware we keep track of the number of orders that are received
by a group of 13 UK stores. We are in our third year of monitoring this and for
the quarter June to August things are not looking very positive.

Our orders are higher than normal but the overall value of those orders is less
than a third of what they are normally - so more work and less cash - that is
not a good sign.

Have a look at the chart - are you seeing a similar or different pattern.

Might be nice of the other regions e.g. USA, Netherlands and Germany chimed in
to see if this is across the board or another region is making up for the current
trend.

We use tiered pricing in our store for all items that have over 2,000 items in
stock. That is fine except when we part out a new set - the consolidation items
offer keep old price and old tiered price or use new price and new tier.

With several hundred items over the threshold that we use we have to keep going
back to our inventory and choosing all items over 2000 (qty) and re-doing the
tiered pricing. It is tiresome.

Surely it would be better to have an option in inventory to set tiered pricing
automatically at whatever level (s) you want and if by chance a part out wants
to drop the tiered it should have a pop-up to warn you and allow you to override
that. That isn't a lot of code.

There really has to be a better way.

As a result of events today I have reviewed the listing policy and believe it
needs a re-think. It is incomplete and vague on variants for example which is
distorting the price guide even further than the taxes, vat and other current
arguments.

Example look for 30389b - you find lots of sellers in Europe listing this part
but then they claim not to differentiate between b and c. Guys this is not helpful
by a long shot. People looking for this part have to constantly ask the seller
are they b's or c's and get a reply - we don't differentiate. Well
then do not list them as b's or c'.

I realise this is a problem for the CAT admins but there should be a better way
of listing these items or stores should be made to differentiate (and I am not
suggesting that as a solution - but come on - how long does it take to check
whether it is an 'x' or a + axle hole?)

We are all supposed to be professional stores on the site. Check your variants
and get the listing correct or CAT admins give us a solution so they do not have
to be listed as a specific variant and do not effect the price guide or even
more importantly the buyer.

Bricklink Helpdesk ticket system is back up and running. What a bonus that should
be. We posted a helpdesk message for attention of Admin Russell a short time
ago and got a ticket and a link to the helpdesk system - clicked on it and it
worked. Login and we have seen a large number of tickets that we have submitted
over time - none answered, mind you, but there they were.

Is this finally a step in the right direction? Let us hope so.

Following our recent thread on the 'elements' of Bricklink we have gathered
the info we wanted so we want to now step into each of those elements and solicit
feedback from other members who may have a greater knowledge of the workings
of this vital cog.

If you go here, but before you do - remember this is not a db schema; nor is
it meant to be any type of software engineering diagram - it is simply a request
for input from people who know the catalogue, and we put it into a SmartArt diagram
foe ease of use. .

https://www.dropbox.com/s/6b6d2y9pqszn6uu/Bricklink_Catalogue%20Functions.pdf?dl=0

Thanks.

Is this diagram indicative of the core elements of Bricklink? We know there are
lots and lots of tables and elements which are attached to these components and
they all work together (supposedly) but are there any we have missed?

Looks pretty simple, we know, but it only paints a very simple side of the story.
