Guidelines: Item Categories

This page explains how to categorize items and defines nearly every category in the entire reference catalog.

Primary categories are selected after an item type has been selected and additional categories may then be added as necessary. If an item would fit equally well into two or more categories, then a decision is made based on the category deemed most likely to be searched for the item. Post in the discussion forum under the Catalog Requests topic to request the addition of a new category if necessary.

  • Sets - These items are categorized first by comprehensive groups based on either the style (Belville, Duplo, Technic, etc.) or the theme (Castle, Super Heroes, Star Wars, etc.) and then sub-categorized as necessary. Style and theme may sometimes be the same.
  • Parts - These items are categorized by category definitions as listed below and are placed into the category most appropriate to the part.
